| Civitavecchia | To Rome or not? Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 07:18 PM UTC
I am going on a cruise on June 6 that includes the port of Civatevecchia. Is there anything to do there or is it better to just take the 1 hour ride to Rome? I have already been to Rome 2yrs. ago and saw The Colloseum, Vatican ,the catacombs etc. If we should have to go to Rome what is the best way to get there. Any info would be great!

| Rome | Best Location Posted: Wed May 14, 2008 12:49 AM UTC
Two 60ish ladies in Rome September. Was thinking of booking either Cicerone or Isa Hotels in Prati area. (Someone commented that this area is boring with not many restaurants etc.) After reading forums sounds like Trastevere or Pantheon areas are better. Would like area we feel comfortable walking around at night in 3,4 or star hotel. Notice a lot of good hotels around Termini area, is this area safe at night? Any suggestions on areas or comments on above hotels would be greatly appreciated. We are both good walkers, and plan to walk as much as possible.

| Rome | Pompeii day-trips from Rome? Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 06:36 PM UTC
Any suggestions for how to manage a daytrip to Pompeii from Rome? A bus tour perhaps? We will have no car, and are reluctant to brave Naples by train, due to warnings about pickpockets and muggings, but would hate to miss Pompeii...will be staying near the Pantheon.
Also, any Rome restaurant recommendations beyond pizzerias and trattorias? |

| Rome | Numerous questions about shopping in Rome in January Posted: Sat May 10, 2008 09:10 PM UTC
My husband and I are taking my Mum to Europe in December/January. We will be in Rome from the 3rd January.
Can anyone please help me with the following questions: (i) Will the Porta Portese markets be operating on the first Sunday in January? (ii) I read in a guidebook, some reference to some Christmas markets in the Piazza Navona that run until 6 January every year. Does anyone know anything about this? (iii) I also read in a guidebook something about Winter Sales. Will the sales be on in early January? (iv) The Castel Romano Designer Outlet. Is it worth going to in terms of stock, prices/discounts, variety? How does it compare for example to The Mall in Florence? Is it worth going to if the sales are on in shops in Rome itself? How does one get there by public transport? Is there a shuttle? (v) Will there be lots of shops open in early January or will they still be closed for a Christmas break? (vi) Not related to shopping, but are sights such as the Sistine Chapel, Vatican, Colosseum open on January 6th which I believe is a public holiday in Italy? (vii) Will the fruit and vegeatble markets be operating in the Campo De Fiori in early January? Thank you very much in advance. |

| Rome | Bed and breakfast in Rome for July Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 04:10 PM UTC
Hello!
We are planing to go to Rome for the first time in the begining of July and we are now checking the accomodation. We are focused on bed & breakfast since they are many and look fine, with private bathroom and ... well, not very expensive! Apparently the begining of July in Rome doesn´t seem to be high season and we have found one near Termini station, is called Piumith B&B and they have availability and great price 70 euros, before we book it we wanted to find any more information, comments but it seems there are none. Has anyone ever been there? Or can give us an idea about something else? Thank you in advance! |

| Rome | Getting to the Catacombs Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 10:33 AM UTC
I was wanting to know how I can get to the Catacombs of San Sebastiano or of Domitilla with a rather large group of students. We do not have a coach/touring car so it would have to be via public transport.
Does anyone know if there is a good bus or train connection with either of these 'venues' ? Thanks Dahidh |

| Rome | Vatican Museum pre-book tour Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 09:35 PM UTC
I posted this in the Vatican forum as well, but thought I would try here, too.
I'd like to go to the Vatican Museum while I'm there, but I would rather not get there at 6am and wait in line all day! I had found a place that offered 2-hour tours (which is all I would really need. I'd like to see the Museum but don't feel like I need to be there all day), but I can't seem to find it again. Does anyone know of anything like this that I can book in advance? Thanks. |

| Civitavecchia | Share a shuttle going May 11 return May 18 from/to FCO Rome airport? Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 12:56 AM UTC
Looking to find people to share shuttle cost. Wife and I are arriving Rome FCO Airport May 11 around 10am and flying out early afternoon May 18 via Zoom out of Toronto. Sailing on Costa Concordia. Anyone interested? We have a short time to figure out where and how to meet and form a small group. If we can get numbers we might be able to book a prearranged pickup at a fixed rate.
Thanks Glen |

| Rome | Train reservations Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 01:03 AM UTC
I will arrive at Flumicino at 9:00 A. M. on a Sunday. Then my daughter and I plan to travel by train to Cinque Terre (Monterrosso) My questions are:
What is the quickest transportation to the train station and what train station should we use? Should we make a reservation for the train and If so how much time should we allow to go through customs, getting baggage and transportation to the train station? My concern is if my plane is late and I miss the train reservation. Elly Kelly |

| Rome | How much time to catch a connecting flight? Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 04:51 PM UTC
I tried to book a direct flight on Myair.com from Venice to Palermo, but I wasn't able to get the transaction processed. I'm guessing this is because I'm trying to use a U.S. credit card. The only options I've been able to find using a U.S. credit card would need to change planes in Rome. The flight I'm looking at arrives at Fiumicino (FCO) at 12:20 and leaves at 1:15. Luggage would be checked through to Palermo. Is this enough time? I'd arrive at terminal A, but it doesn't mention where I'd depart from. Also, does anyone happen to know a travel agent who'd take a U.S. credit card for a non-stop flight? I've checked travelocity and orbitz, but think I might have better luck with an actual person.
Thank you! |

Hi everyone,
I will be flying out from Frankfurt on the 25th May 2008, and planned to stay in Rome for 2 nights, before leaving home for Kuala Lumpur on the 27th noon. However, I need some information on th following: (a) Is there a left-baggage facility available at the airport? How much is the cost? (b) What are my transportation options to the city? (c) Can somebody recommend me a cheap place to stay? My budget is less than Eur100@night@double bed room. Many thanks in advance |
