Heidelberg I Forget the Hotel Name
Posted: Tue January 17, 2006 08:36 PM UTC
A couple of years ago, we stayed at a nice, quaint hotel in Heidelberg, but I cannot remember the name. It was in the old part of town about one block north of Hauptstrasse on an alley/street. Walking north from Hauptstrasse, it was on the right, and you went thru an arch in a small parking lot. There was a restaurant inside to the right as you entered the door from the parking lot. It was about a 5-10 minute walk to the cablecar that went up to the castle. The rates were very reasonable. Can anybody help me with the name? Our room overlooked the parking lot which held perhaps 8 cars. Thank you.

Heidelberg statues in university
Posted: Fri December 30, 2005 05:18 PM UTC
Does anyone know of a listing of statues on the university campus? I know it's a long shot, but family lore says that one of our ancestors who taught there has a statue on the campus. I would like to visit in the summer of 2006 and would like to find the statue, if possible. I checked the university website and could not find an appropriate office to contact.

We will be stationed at Heidelburg, but have to live off-base. What are the prices like for a 2 bedroom house or apt? Is there a store thats equal to a Wal-mart, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc?

Heidelberg Do the old bridge and bridge gate have other names?
Posted: Fri July 15, 2005 02:38 AM UTC
Is there an official name for the Old Bridge and the Bridge Gate with the twin white towers or is that what they're really called? Also, what is the name of the church directly south of the Gridge Gate?

Heidelberg School Comparison
Posted: Wed June 29, 2005 06:06 PM UTC
For anyone living in the Mannheim/Heidelberg area have you heard any feedback to compare the American high schools that I've found - Mannheim or Heidelberg? Or are there other options such as international schools in the area? I may be taking a job in that area this summer and haven't been able to find much literature on either school. Appreciate your response.

Heidelberg Cyber Cafes
Posted: Wed June 15, 2005 06:11 PM UTC
Hello, I am just wondering if there are any cyber cafes or places with public internet access in or near Heidelberg/Weinheim?

I will be in Weinheim for 10 days. I have tried "googling" but I can't find any information. The people we will be staying with tells me internet access is very expensive for them to use so I want to be able to rent some time in a cyber cafe! Thanks very much, Kat

Heidelberg Does the Neckar freeze over in the winter?
Posted: Sat May 14, 2005 02:30 AM UTC
This may sound silly, but I'm wondering whether the Neckar River ever freezes over in the winter enough that it stops barge traffic. If so, is this a regular occurrance? Is the ice thick enough for people to walk on it? Thank you.

Heidelberg Which Shuttle from Frankfurt to Heidelberg?
Posted: Mon April 11, 2005 04:58 AM UTC
Since four of us are travelling together, it seems like our easiest mode of transport from Frankfurt airport to Heidelberg after our long flight is an Airport Shuttle Service. It appears there are two, TLS & HLS. Any recommendation?

Heidelberg Best Boat Cruise out of Heidelberg?
Posted: Mon March 28, 2005 03:55 AM UTC
We are spending a few days in Heidelberg in May. Besides the usual castle & walks, we'd like to take a tour down the river (I guess the Neckar since it's closest & we have no car). Any recommended boat tour to see some castles, maybe get off in another location & we could take a train back if that makes more sense? We are staying near the Old Bridge. Any advice is appreciated since I've not been there since I was One year old (born there).
Thanks,
Rick

Heidelberg What sights to see in 1 day?
Posted: Fri March 25, 2005 02:24 AM UTC
Hi,

I have 8 hours to spend in Heidelberg before I proceed to Munich. I probably will spend maybe a few hours at the castle (or none at all if it's not recommended?). What other attractions are a MUST-SEE? I'm open to spending a night over at Heidelberg if it's really good! :)

Please help! Thanks! :)

Heidelberg Taking a boat ride on the Rhine question...
Posted: Sun February 13, 2005 10:22 PM UTC
Q: My wife and I are traveling to Germany the first half of July. We are staying for the first week in a town close to Heidleberg. We want to make a day trip on the Rhine River. I read the section just south of Koblenz was the most interesting section of the Rhine. We are renting a car for the first week, so want to have a plan on where to jump on a boat and where to get off. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Heidelberg Will we get bored in Heidelberg? (3 days)
Posted: Tue September 14, 2004 05:35 AM UTC
I'll be backpacking in Europe with a couple college buddies of mine during thanksgiving and Heidelberg is one of those cities we definetly want to see due to its survival of WWII. Anyways, we'll land in Frankfurt on Friday morning and will take the train or bus to Heidelberg around noon. We'll meet with a friend from Heidelberg and probably stay there till Sunday evening as we want to travel during the night to Milan. I guess my question is, what can we do in Heidelberg other than the castle, shopping street and the riverside? I'm guessing there will be a lot of bars and clubs as it's a college town so basically I just need your recommendations.

Thanks :)
