Nyiregyhaza Posted: Thu June 11, 2009 07:56 PM UTC
What is the best way to travel from Budapest Airport to Nyiregyhaza? I am arriving in Budapest on Saturday July 17th 2010 and can either get a train to Nyiregyhaza or hire a car from the airport. I am staying for 4 nights in Nyiregyhaza.

My question is how long would it take to get there by each method. Some people are encouraging me to hire a car, saying it is easy. How busy are the roads from Budapest to Nyiregyhaza? What is the speed limit on motorways? Can anyone recommend a hire car company at Budapest airport?

What is the cost of train travel from Budapest to Nyiregyhaza? Are there problems getting a seat on trains on a saturday afternoon? Are taxis cheap in Nyiregyhaza?

While I am on the subject of Nyiregyhaza, can anyone recommend good class hotels in the town?

Thanks,

Nigel (UK)

We are going to be in Hungary and the Czech Republic in October. We will have Euros with us as we will be in Germany and Austria. Will small shops like a bakery or sandwich shop accept Euros in Budapest and Prague?
Thanks. Marcia

Advice? Pitfalls? Day train or sleeper? How long is the trip? Do the trains have food available or should one take one's own?

We're thinking about a sleeper. Has anyone done this trip in a sleeper and what was it like? Were you continually awoken by demands for passports? Was there food available?

So, I've searched most of the restaurants on the web, but haven't been able to find so of the stuff I am looking for.

Halasz leves, hungarian chicken liver with onions and breaded calf brains, tripe among others. Any suggestions?

Hi!While we are in Budapest, would like to take trips of short durations outside Budapest.
I have in the Budapest forum read about trips to Nagymaros-Visegrad or Zebegeny. As I understand this would be train journey from Nuygati. What are these places famous for,and how long would the journey take each way.
Also I have read about a boat excursion to the Danube Bend. How long is this excursion and where do we get the boat from.
Other than these what places can you recommend.
Will appreciate your suggestions.
Many thanks,
Jayarep.

Hello to all!

I would really love to try caving in budapest. Saw that there was 2 tours on caving in budapest. Anyone could recommand which one's better? I don't mind if its tough! Would be great if those who have gone on the caving tours before can tell me more abt them? Or any locals can recommand which cave had more beauty or more challenging etc? Thanks!

We are going to spend a few days in Budapest and would like to make a day trip to Balaton Lake. Is the trip short enough to make it worthwhile? Would it be advisable to rent a car or is bus or train transportation a reasonable alternative? What are the approximate rates for renting a car for a day?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I would like to visit Obudai temeto off Bechi utca and Arany hegy.

On google map this looks rather outside of the city. I was wondering if you could offer some info on how easy this area is to access by public transportation or taxi? Also, how safe is it for a small group of obvious foreigners?

Hi,

We will be in Budapest on Aug 20, 2009. I am looking for a good suggestion for a restaurant, bistro where we could make reservations for dinner and watch the fireworks!

Alternately a good public place - fisherman's wharf? that is safe, easy access and not hugely packed but offers a good photo locations.

We will be traveling with 2 kids, and while I realize that this is a major holiday and crowds are a given, I was wondering if there was someplace a little bit off the beaten path.

Hello!

We are interested in buying 1 Day Travel Card (1500 HUF). Is it possible to pay it by credit card at underground machines?

We will arrive at Nepliget bus station. Could we buy that card in this station paying by credit card?

The problem is we are going to stay only 7 hours at Budapest, so we prefer to pay all with credit card on order nor to change money.

On a website I read a raving review for a restaurant in Budapest. It was the

"Bangla Büfé,
Akácfa utca behind the District VII market hall"

Does this restaurant still exist, and if yes, what is the exact address? Street and Number?

I will be visiting Budapest at the end of June for a week. As I am visiting Budapest for the first time, I would appreciate any suggestions regarding things to see and do. Also, suggestions regarding restaurants/cafes and shopping would be most welcome. I understand that Budapest is a relatively inexpensive city. One other question: are there buses to Balaton Lake and is it possible to leave in the morning and return in the evening and still have enought time to enjoy the lake area?

On an upcoming trip to BUD, we are considering attending an opera at the Hungarian State Opera House.

Can anyone provide info on suggested attire?

Would jackets/ties be required or is it more flexible and casual tire be acceptable?

Thank you to any who respond!

2. If depart from keleti is possible to buy tickets the day before at nugati
3. There is a web site in english to see the train schedule.

I was thinking about driving to budapest from prague from frankfurt. Hertz will not let rental car past germany from amsterdam so I will have to rent from frankfurt, some say due to high theft of cars, Is budapest a seedy city with a lot of poverty and desperation causing crime? I am getting a weird feeling from my research that something is up . I would like to know if anybody has found it disturbing or dangerous in general. I realize the city isn't great to be driving around in , but are parking lots available for 20 euros or dollars equivalent a day and then I could walk to the sights . I don't want to have a hassle with this rental car and still might just fly in and out and deal with a taxi to and from the airport to the city hotel . The taxi drivers also sound like shady characters but probably no worse than new york or boston taxi scams. Are the mob a gleaming problem or is it safe and enjoyable city to visit. The art looks amazing and the architecture and I really don't want miss out.Maybe just prague will be a better idea.thanks for any help you can give . sorry if this sounds paranoid

We will be in Budapest in late September and I was wondering if there is the possibility of viewing anything with the Lipizzaner Horses in the area?

I know there are worldwide tours that feature the horses but I was curious as to availability in Budapest while we are there?

We will be in June for a week in Budapest, we stay at the Le Meridien and we plan to do a little trip out of the city. We are considering to choose one of the following 3 trips:

http://www.budapesting.com/tours

Right now the best the Lake Balaton tour looks like. It sounds fun with the wine tasting and as far as I saw it covers most of the Balaton region.

We were also thinking Eger, as an option, but not sure about it.

About the Danube Bend I heard that it's too touristy and not as nice as it used to be.

Any ideas, feedback is more than welcome!
