Hello,
We will be having a 4 days haliday in Sorrento and its surrounding. Then we have another 4 days break before we catch the flight from Genova. I suppose we will spend the last day in Genova. But can you help me in planning the 4 days?
- Should we travel by car for 4 days from Sorrento to Genova in 4 days? (We don't wanna spend much time in Rome as we had seen Rome on several occasions) If yes, where should we spend the nights?
- Should we go further (maybe France) and then come back to Genova for the flight? If yes can we catch a train from Sorrento?
- My wife definitely wants to visit SeraValle (for shopping) and Portofino.
Please help us in organizing this trip. Any other suggestions are welcomed. Thank you in advance.

Hello, we're coming to stay in Sorrento in June/July in self-catering accommodation and want to know if there's a supermarket type shop where we can stock up on food.
Also, is there somewhere where we can get snacks, ie, filled paninis, that typeof thing, rather than a restaurant meal. We're on a tight budget so need to watch the cost as much as possible.
Thanks
Charlotte and Kev

As an alternative to doing a long ride from the port to Rome and a long return, are there excursions near the port that we can do on our own, perhaps by taxi. Tarquinia is offered by the ship as a short excursion Is that worth doing? Can we get there by taxi or public transport without breaking the bank? Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi
We arrive (hopefully on time) at Malpensa Airport, Milan- at 1pm on 21st July.
We need to get to Florence before 5pm.
my questions:
a) what is the quickest way from airport to Milan train station, from where we will catch a train to Florence. Cost is not an issue.
b) We prefer NOT to fly, because we would have been 'in the air' for many many hours from Australia.
c) Are there a few trains that we can choose from to Florence. I do not want to pre-book IN CASE we are delayed. Also- approx what is the travelling time by train Milan-Florence.
Thanks folks

Heading to a wedding in Malcesine in June but have a couple of nights in Venice beforehand. Looking at flying into Treviso with Ryanair, what is the best way to get to Venice from here? In Venice I've looked at staying in B&Bs rather than hotels as this holiday is costing, I keep on going back to B&B Ca'Furlan so think I may book this. With regards to leaving to head to Malcesine I know I have to get the train to verona and then get a bus from the station. Been on the trenitalia website but unsure of which station I should be leaving from? Any help will be great, thanks!

I'm planning a family vacation starting with a 7 night cruise aboard the Mariner of the Seas sailing on 7th July and returning on 14th July.
I would appreciate help and tips on the following:
1. Best mode of transportation for family of 8 with luggage from FCO to Port of Civitavecchia on a Saturday.
2. Best mode of transportation for family of 8 with luggage from Port of Civitavecchia to a hotel in Rome.
3. As we are looking to book 4 hotel rooms, I'm considering a hotel on the outskirts of Rome like Marriott Rome Park Hotel or Courtyard by Marriott Rome Airport. I also want to rent a van for all of us and just drive in and out of Rome attractions. Is this recommended? Or should I just pick a more central hotel?
4. I would book an apartment/villa, but I'm not sure for 5 days how reliable or convenient they'll be.
5. Regarding renting a car, how convenient is this? I know I would never do it in London, but I did it in Palma de Majorca and it was very fine. Please advise pros and cons. Are there any hidden costs?
6. There are 100's of attarctions in Rome, Can you please advise which attractions we should visit over a period of 5 days from 14th to 19th July? I'm considering: 1. Vatican, 2. Colloseum, 3. Trevi Fountain, 4. Piazza di Spagna - Spanish Steps, 5. Piazza Navona, anything else?
Please note that our group includes two children 6 and 10yrs old.
Also, should we just go around ourselves or find a tour company to guide us?
I really appreciate your help to make this a family vacation to remember :)

I'll be traveling from Rome to Sorrento in September. My travel agent has suggested the Eurorail from Rome to Naples, and then said we're "on our own" to arrange transportation to Sorrento from there. Based on our hotel website, it seems the best way to complete this trip is by using the local train "Circumvesuviana" to Sorrento, then take a bus or taxi to the hotel. Does this seem like the best way? Can anyone tell me how often this local train runs? And the price of a ticket?
Thanks!!!

We're going to Italy next week and the only thing we haven't figured out is the transportation between all the places. It would be great to get some help, we're considering to rent a car if we cant figure out how to get around, but I think that's much more expensive?
->Rome Ciampino Airport - Roma Termini
I'm guessing it will be easiest to just take a taxi to the hotel, which is close to the station. But does anyone know about how much it will cost?
->Rome - Sperlonga
I got this part covered. Train to Formia, then bus to Sperlonga.
->Sperlonga - Sant'Agnello
This is the part I really cant figure out. I've tried to look at trains to Sorrento from Formia, but nothing comes up. My guess is that we have to take the bus from Sperlonga to Formia, and I thought we could take a train from Formia to Sorrento, but as I said..I cant find it. So does anyone know how to travel from Sperlonga to Sant'Agnello?
->Sant'Agnello - Rome (between the centre and Ciampino Airport)
If I get the previous transport sorted out, there shouldnt be any problem with this one. I assume there is a train from Sorrento to Ciampino Airport? And then taxi or bus to the exact location in Rome.

We will be arriving Venice approx 5th August'12 for 4 nights. Looking for accommodation, either good B&B near a canal, or minimum 3 star hotel.
Wish to take train to Budapest, but not via Vienna as we have been there before.
Does the train service go via southern Austria into Hungary and then up to Budapest. We would like a night stop southern Austria, cross into Hungary and have another 2 night stop.
Stopovers must be historic, interesting towns. Appreciate train travel time for each section.

I am planning on proposing to my girlfriend of 3.5 years in June at the Piazzale Michelangelo. I would prefer to do it when there aren't a lot of people around and I have heard that it is packed in the evenings, so I would like to go at sunrise.
The only problem is that we will be staying in a hostel (hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/
56) the night before that is 8 km away from the Piazzale.
Any tips on getting from the hostel to the Piazzale in the very early morning would be great! I have thought about the possibility of renting a Vespa the day before and then driving it as close to our destination as possible, but I have no idea if that is feasible.
Also, general advice or feedback would be much appreciated.

My fiance and I are traveling to Italy for our honeymoon in September. We can't decide if we should allow our travel agent to arrange a private transfer from the airport to our hotel, or if we would be able to navigate this easliy ourselves. Can anyone recommend an easy, cost effective method of traveling from the Marco Polo airport to our hotel? (We're staying at Ca' Del Campo.) We'd rather the journey not take 2 hours (as it appears the water bus may take), but don't want to spend a fortune either. What's the best option? We're open to a private transfer if there's no convienent way to travel, but were hoping for a cheaper option.

Thursday 31st May to Sunday 3rd June, in Venice with parents (70 yrs old and not in great physical shape), daughter (8 yrs old) and of course my wife (who doesn't really like walking).
Questions: which is the best option for budget accommodation? We'll need 2 rooms and 2 bathrooms; a kitchen or pantry would be a bonus. Which area would be best?
Qn. 2 - Is there some place nearby where we can go for a day trip? By cheap public transport?
In hopes,
J.A.P.

OK guys, I have my tickets (I think) for all of the longer legs of our Italy trip. Yes, we were going to buy point-to-point when we got there but some attractive mini fares showed up and well, that's more gelato $$$.
So I have "tickets" that were printed from the site. They all have a barcode, a QR code and another code printed in VERY large type. Some of these are for reserved seats and some are regionale cars we switch to for the final legs of the runs.
Are these pieces of paper considered valid tickets - meaning all we do is get on the trains with them? I do not have to exchange them at the station for a "real" ticket?
Was concerned about the regionale legs as I know those types of tickets need to be validated and I've no idea how you'd stick these standard-sized paper sheets into the machines. However, there is text at the bottom of the sheets that reads:
"The receipt must be shown together with a valid document of recognition every time requested by inspection personnel."
"Tickets... are already validated and allows journeys to begin within 4 hours of the date/time indicated on this receipt."
So I take this to mean we must have some kind of ID on us (like a passport) to prove these are ours, that we do not have to validate these sheets, and if we miss one of these regionale trains, we can pick up the next one as long it's within 4 hours after we were supposed to catch the one indicated on the ticket, right?
Just being cautious... :O)
