I'm planning a 2 night stay on Santorini island in April 2010. I'm a scenic photographer and want to take the typical postcard photos of the white buildings on the cliffs with the sea in the distance etc etc (you know the ones!), and also of the blue-domed churches and maybe a windmill thrown in or two. Where are the best townsites/spots to take these photos without scads of telephone lines in the way? I was planning to book a room at the Shine Hotel in Imverogli (sp?) and it looks ideal except for those pesky telephone lines....Also, I heard there was a path linking Fira with Oia (another must-do, I think?). Is it harder to walk than the Cinque-Terre was in Italy or is it fairly easy? How long of a walk if I stop for lots of photos? I'm toting along my 73 yr old mother (who has climbed Huangshan mountain in China with me recently, so she suvived it well enough). Thanks!
My fiance and I are going to be in Mykonos next week (starting Oct 18th). I've been to the Paranga Beach during the summer before and it was the place to be. Does anyone know if it will be open this late in the season?
If you don't know, a recommendation on a comparable place will be greatly appreciated.
Lower our expectations? We are travelling to Santorini via cruise ship in November on a Sunday (off season & on a day of rest). Realistically, what can we expect to see open? Our game plan, if we are fortunate enough, was to cable car up to Fira, wander a bit over maybe over to Imerovigli for lunch and cab it to Oia. Will be find restaurants open? and sufficient cabs to visit/return from Oia without difficulty? Thanks for any suggestions.
i will be going to Syros for about 20 days in a couple of weeks and would be most interested to be able to see something at the Apollo Theatre. I did not find any events on the website and wonder if the theatre is only open during the summer. If there is any event on, I would be most interested in receiving it and some information as to how to book tickets on-line if possible. I visited the theatre and found it extremely beautiful, a small replica of the Scala here in Milan.
Thanking you in advance for any information you may be able to send me,
Two persons will travel from Kusadasi to Samos then to Mykonos, Santorini, and the final destination is Athens. We will leave Kusadasi on Oct 14. We like to stay at Samos one night and Mykonos and Santorini two nights each location. I need to find the right ferry company and schedule. We also like to know where is the right places to stay. Thank you.
Would anyone know if the ferry ride to Delos still operates on November this year? Our cruise ship spends a day there, and we'd like to visit Delos without being forced to go through the ship excursions.
Is the ferry near the port?
Do anyone have the schedule?
How much does it cost?
i am bringing some seniors with me, is the walking in Delos hard?
I will be in Greece for a week in late November. I will be spending most of the time in and around Athens but also wanted to visit Mykonos.
Whats the weather generally like in Mykonos during late November?
I know that November is off-peak season... so is it worth visiting Mykonos during that time? (I know its subjective!!!)
Are the pubs/bars/hang out places open? Will there be any crowd in the off-peak season?
Hi.
Hoping someone can tell me what the weather is usually like in the middle of October. I have cruised in September and the weather was fabelous.
But, what is October usually like, do you think I can enjoy some sunny warm days.
My cruise takes in Greece, Turkey, Egypt and Israel.
Quick question, we fly into Thira very early morning next Friday (6.30am) and we can't check into the hotel (guesthouse) until midday and can't even leave bags until 8am. Are there any cafes, restaurants etc open that early in Fira so we can wait in style? May be a stupid question but you never know!
My future wife and I have our Grecian honeymoon booked. We're splitting our time in Greece between Santorini and Crete. We have our hotels and everything all set but we haven't booked our ferry between the two. We're getting close to two weeks away from our trip and are getting nervous...we tried to book using http://greekferries.forth-crs.gr/english/npgres.exe?PM=BB and it only lets us book on Oct 3 (the day after we need to leave). Is there any other service (prefer high speed) that you know of that we can call? The online booking systems seem to be filled or not working for Oct 2 Friday.
My partner and I are looking at a trip to Santorini in May 2010 or August/September 2010. We want to avaid peak season.
Is the weather warm through the beginning of May and still warm through the end of August, start of September? What type of weather can we expect?
Also we are looking at staying in Fira in budget accommodation, less than 100 euro per night. If anyone could please recommend places to stay that would be great.
There is a water sport tip on a VT member's page about kayaking near Ammoudi harbor but the post is from 2004. I also read a post on Travel Advisor and someone mentioned that kayaking is not allowed because of all the ferry traffic.
So there is no place to kayak, at all, on the island?
My fiance and I will be starting our honeymoon in Mykonos during the second half of October. I know this is into the off-season...
1) Can anyone recommend a beach with chairs and even better a bar that will be open in the second half of October? I've been to Paranga Beach before and had a blast. Do you think the club there will still be open in October?
2) What is the best way to tour Delios? I'd like to pay extra for a private tour if they're worth it.
Any other suggestions for a Mykonos honeymoon in October would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
My husband and I are going to Mykonos in 2 weeks, and would love to find a more secluded, white sand beach away from the majority of the tourists. We would enjoy a beach bar, but not with the masses. Is this possible in Mykonos?? We are staying at Petassos Beach Resort. Any suggestions of beaches nearby?
We are a group of 7 friends and would like to travel around the island of Mykonos. We are arriving in Mykonos on the 17th of September and leave on the 21st. We will be residing in Paradise Beach Resort, Paradise Beach. How easy will it be to travel around the main tourist attractions using the bus network please? We definately would like to visit Mykonos Town, Little Venice and The Windmills. We also would like to enjoy the nightlife, therefore please inform us about the availability of transport from Mykonos Town and Little Venice back to Paradise Beach till late hours (let's say 4am). Also we would appreciate if someone can link us to the fares / timetable for each tour. We have checked the website but its really lacking details!
We would like to thank you deeply for the time you are investing in this message. Looking forward to visit Mykonos!
Our ship arrives in Santorini at 4pm and leaves at 11pm. Are there any wineries still open? Any recomendations on what to do in the evenings. I will have my daughters (18/21)with us. As far as I can see the 18 year old can go into bars and drink with us. Anybody know of a place where 40ish parents can hang with the younger crowds and both be happy? My husband and I both love to dance/drink etc.. and don't mind the girls drinking and having fun with us, just don't want a place that would be "inappropriate".
We've decided to spend 3 days in Santorini in September and was wondering on the best places to stay and what to do. I have found a great looking hotel in Kamari (Anassa Deluxe Suites). Is that a good place/area to stay? Also, are tours necessary or is taking buses or hiring a car better? I assume driving isn't difficult seeing as I drive in Dubai?!
We are two girls in our late twenties. We basically want somewhere with some good nightlife (not too rowdy!!), things to do and see and have some relaxation.
Wondering if anyone can recommend any new restaurants in Mykonos - cheap, expensive (though usually those aren't very good), traditional or contemporary. Heading back to Mykonos this September with a friend.
hello all
I would love to have some recommendation on where to stay in Santorini next weekend. My husband and I love nice beaches, plenty of tourists, busy lifestyles and busy nights. Any town has the crowd walking around, restaurants and shops, nightclubs staying late? ? Oio or Fiera... Not sure also the black beaches are they pretty popular? Is the sand rough or soft? IS this swimmable? What is the most popular destination inside santorini and where do you advice us to stay
I'll be landing on the 30th of July for a period of 7 nights. I'd like to do a super whirlwind tour of the Cyclade Islands....preferably Santorini, Naxos, Paros Ios and some other island. Its basically for photography that i'm coming so i'd like to visit all the scenic islands.
Also need REALLY cheap accomodation. I am not at all fussy about the place. I just need a place for the night on each island. I will be travelling most of the time and a posh room will do me no good. I dont even mind camping sites. Can anyone make any suggestions ?
we're planning to be in mykonos for 4 nights in August. prices of hotels very high, can you please advise good place near the town center in reasonable price.
My daughter and some friends ( mixed sex group) are off island hopping around Santorini, Ios, Paros and AntiParos ( maybe a couple more) some of the prices they are being quoted for accommodation is really high ( July 31- Aug 10th)
I know its high season
so two questions
1) Can anyone recommend cheapish hostels in these places
2) Will they be Ok sleeping under the stars on hte beach ( or is this not allowed
my wife and I will be visiting mykonos in mid september. I would like some suggestions on a more local, quiet, greek style island, with local eateries(preferably seafood) and bars and maybe even a beach or two,and maybe explore the island by motorbike, where we can chill for 3 or 4 days, and then continue onto santorini. I know I am asking a lot, I want it all, without the crowds or the inflated expense, but is there such a place? Thank you for your time.
Hi, i am looking forward to visit Crete and would like to ask which best way to visit Santorini.
And what is the best location to find a hotel on crete for night life.
I'll be traveling to Santorini next month. I'll be using FLYINGCAT 4 to get to Santorini from Crete. I want to learn in which port I'll disambark and how I can go to my hotel in Oia from the port.
