I'm flying into Katowice at the end of next month and then either:

(a) travelling by train to my family's home in Prudnik - in which case, what would be the closest railway station?

(b) hiring a car at the airport and driving - in which case does would anyone be able to give me driving directions?

What are my transport options from Katowice airport to Krakow at 6am on Saturday mornings?

My family and I will be staying in Krakow for a few days, and then we fly out of Katowice to Rome. Our flight out of Katowice is early in the morning, about 6:30. Do you recommend that we stay in Katowice, or is the distance between Krakow and the airport managable by public transportation in the middle of the night? If we stay in Katowice, does anyone have any suggestions for the cheapest accommodations (since we'll only be sleeping half the night anyway)? Thanks for your help!

in addition to the last post, we've done the trip in reverse by rail lvov to krakov, took such a long time :) are there better ways of going TO Lvov, bus, marshrutka etc, I think lvov is only 70kms the other side of the border. can you walk across the border at premsyl and then train or bus it from there? is premsyl worth a stay to visit the cultural stuff?

I'm visiting Katowice in August with the inlaws and my boyfriend.

We'll be spending some time with his Polish long lost family but would like to also spend some time out and about enjoying the night-life and food.

any info on good places to eat (Nothing too posh) and places to listen to music would be appreciated :)

I will come in February to Warsaw, and I was thinking of visiting the Planetarium in Katowice during one weekend. I am attracted by the description, and I notice that Katowice is not far from Warsaw, so I can probably do the trip in one day.
However, I am quite concerned about the warnings about (un)safety of the Railway Station. Is it really unsafe also during daytime? I do not usually wear expensive coats, and I have also (few) dark hairs, but probably I look as a foreigner. Would it be very risky to cross the Station during the day and catch a regular taxi to reach the Planetarium?

Fortunately I am not a smoker but some in my group of 5 who are visting Katowice and Krakow shortly. Can you buy English cigarettes and tobacco in Poland and if so where is the best place to shop. We are staying near the Tesco Hypermarket in Krakow

We are travelling into Katowice on 15th November, do the airport buses go near this hotel? If we caught a cab direcly, has anyone any idea of the charges and are the cabs readily available? Also, how long does it generally take to get in to Katowice from the airport?

Also can anyone tell me if there are any large supermarkets near this hotel and any other useful information would be welcomed.

Hello all,
I arrive back fairly late on a Wizzair flight from Budapest (22:00), so I guess it makes more sense to simply stay the night in Katowice and travel to Krakow the following morning. Has anyone any information on the Hotel Senator? The rates seem good and it looks nice, but appearances can be deceiving!
Any other recommendations for hotels?

Hi everyone - hope someone has an answer. I have been told that there is a special bus from Katowice Airport to Krakow taking about 50 minutes. I will be coming into Airport about 20:10 on Tuesday and need to get this bus. Anyone know where I can pick up a timetable off the web? And can you buy bus tickets at the airport>

Hello. I'm trying to get from Ostrzeszow to the airport in Katowice... I will probably end up taking a train, and I'm wondering which train station is the closest to the airport and what is the best way to get from the train to the airport? There seem to be quite a lot of train stations in Katowice, and I have no idea about the area at all. Any help is greatly appreciated! I will be traveling at the beginning of March, so a speedy reply would be great. Thanks!

Please can somebody tell me on the wizzair website booking the connection bus to Krakow. That it definately arrives at Krakow because on the booking page for arrival it says Katowice.

Myself and a friend are visiting Poland for a short three day visit this April, we will be arriving with Wizz Air and coming in late evening.

Our intention is to get a hotel within walking distance from where the Wizz Air bus drops us off due to the late arrival, can anyone suggest a cheap hotel not too far from the bus drop-off point .

We are going to hire a car for the following day to do a bit of exploring, there are a few companies on the internet but I was wondering if anyone knew a reliable car hire company in Katowice that they would recommend.

I will be travelling to Katowice at the end of September with my husband and daughter for a four day stay. I am feeling a bit apprehensive as to how safe it is to wander around, especially in the evenings. This is our second trip to Poland. We travelled to Sopot 5 years ago on an organised coach trip, but during that stay, one lady had her bag snatched, and an elderly couple had their room broken into and personal items were stolen. We have booked this trip entirely by internet, flying with Wizz-Air and staying at the Hotel Katowice. I booked this before finding this website, and now realise this may not be the best of places to stay.
We intend spending a day in Krakow, and also wondered how far the Salt Mines are from Katowice, and how is the best way to travel there if we have time.
I hope I am worrying unnecessarily. Any replies will be gratefully received.

Hi! We're going to visit Krakow in late september, and are planning to fly with WizzAir from Stockholm.
However - this flight will arrive at Katowice airport around midnight (saturday night) so what is the best solution?
To travel to Krakow at that time? (is it possible? How?) or to get a hotelroom in Katowice for one night, and then go to Krakow the next morning?
Do hotels accept check-in this late?

Also, does anybody know if WizzAir is reliable and ok to travel with?
I haven't really travelled that much, so my knowledge in these matters are very limited....

Hi guys, can anyone help me ? Planning to take the low cost airline from london to krakow, however the flight will be landing in katowice airport.

So far, the only way I know from katowice airport to krakow city is to take the train from airport to katowice city then change another train to krakow. Journey time taking about 2hrs++ ?? Cost about 10++ Euros.

Is there any better way to go straight from katowice airport to krakow without burning a hole in my wallet ?

I wouldn't mind stopping over in katowice city for a walk but however, it occurs to me that katowice city or surrounding hasn't really got anything interesting ? Can anyone help confirm this ?
