Hi all, I was told by a Greek friend of mine to take a rest from my train ride from Athens to Istanbul by spending one night in Thessaloniki.

Can anyone recommend a cheap but good hotel in a good and safe location which is easy to go to from the train station because we will be carrying a heavy big luggages.

Budget is around 50Euros per night for a double room.

I have an information that weather in Apravalta is always windy.Is it true?

I'm thinking of visiting Thessaloniki next year during their Book Fair ( I'm in the book business here in the US, so it becomes tax deductable ). But I cannot find out when it is.
According to some reliable sources, it is May 22-25, 2010. According to other equally reliable sources it is April 22-25, 2010. Obviously someone made an error someplace and the error was copied.
I searched their English version web site, and I cannot find a date. I sent email in English and received no answer. Unfortunately I only know a few words of Greek, so I cannot call them.

Could someone call them ( +30 210 9200327 ) and ask which month it is, and then pass the answer back to me? Thanks.

I'm planning a vacation with a baby and a 4-years old in Asprovalta, but I'm not sure what kind of weather is usualy there? Sunny, rainy, windy ...?
Is it too north for the end of the summer?

I read that there are train and bus services from Thessaloniki to Skopje (http://wikitravel.org/en/Thessaloniki) However the website for the Macedonian Railways (http://www.mz.com.mk/) is not available in English and thus incomprehensible to me. I am hoping to transit to Ohrid from Skopje for a meeting, so any advice on schedule, fares, reliability/punctuality and safety concerns would be greatly appreciated!

Does the bar Seaside (Paralia) show movies? Or does it just have music from movies?

Anyone living in or near here willing to pick me up next year and go to Pella and Vergina. And also maybe Phillipi? I'm having trouble finding any company offering scheduled tours and private services are too expensive. I really dont want to rely on local buses either. And, I dont drive.

Virtually of the tour companies run tours from Athens. Macedonia tours for 3 or 5 days are also pricy since I am a single and there is a single supplement.

Trying again to put an itinerary together with Thessaloniki. Need suggestion of hotel, prefably $100 USD or under, that has either a Tour Desk or Concierge so they can arrange for me excursion to Pella and Vergina.

How, and when to time, and date a 4-8 week Greece trip (next Spring)?

I am planning a 4-8 week Greece trip, taking in the entire country (from North to South, starting in Thessaloniki ending in Heraklion, where I will fly out). My question is when to arrive in Thessaloniki so to see the dawn of Spring as I work my way down to the islands. I heard Athens is empty during Easter, so maybe that's the best time to be there, but at the same time I hear Easter is best on the islands (where the the smell of lamb is everywhere). I don't know.

The problem is before Greece, I am in Cyrpus, Lebanon, and Syria.

I enter Syria in early January, and after completing Lebanon, I fly to Cyprus. I need to know how long to delay my arrival in northern Greece, so the 4-8 weeks I'm planning for Greece fall on the best weather, and greatest travel experience in Greece.

If it helps, I heard Cyprus spring begins in late February, so maybe early, or middle March is best to arrive in Thessaloniki? My flight is from Paphos, Cyprus to Thessaloniki. At the same time, I heard Feb/March is generally a wet period in both Cyprus, and Greece. In that case, I'm screwed.

How would you time and date this trip?

Need to find a tour operator who does day tours from Thessaloniki. Anyone know one? Would have to be in English of course.

Does anyone know of a hotel near St. Luke's Hospital in Thessaloniki? We are a family of 4 - (kids are 14,17). I would like a family room, but 2 rooms would work too if not too expensive.
I was heading to Athens for treatment, but my insurance covers better at St. Luke's.

I found the hospital and I believe bus 58 goes out that way. Is this correct?

I am leaving this Monday, May 11! So, I am frantically getting everything together. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Hello - I am in the process of buying a holiday home in Halkidiki and would like to know the best shops around Thessaloniki to buy furniture, electricals (fridge, cooker, TV etc) and general household stuff.

I know of Ikea near the airport, but any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know when this year the sales in shops will start?

I live in Skopje, and usualy arround 15th of January I visit Cosmos and other malls in thessaloniki.
Very big discounts (20 up to 70%) for the clothes which is not the case in my country.

I've heard that this year due to the Economic Crisis in the world, the sale may start few weeks earlier. Even before Christmas!

Is this really the case or is it not?

I ve been many time in your beautiful city.This year with my 30 good friends I decide to spend New Year's Eve in Thessaloniki.
I know the city but I am looking for "the best Taverna" to spend this special night.
As long as we are Turkish you can imagine that we are interested with good mezedes and good greek music...the real one ( we are not interested with fancy touristic places,bars,clubs,restaurant in kalamaria)We are only interested with a special Taverna where all Thessaloniki people use to go

I'm planning on spending New Year's Eve in Thessaloniki, and since I'd rather party than going out in some restaurant, I was curious about New Year's Eve parties in Thessaloniki this year. Any advice on clubs or parties in town?

I haven't decided on hotels yet, so I don't know exactly where I will be staying, but since it will be just me and my boyfriend, I'd like to know a little bit about the gay life in the city!

So... long story short:

1. Which clubs have good parties for New Year's Eve?
2. Are people in Thessaloniki gay friendly?

I shall be in Thessaloniki with a few friends between the 24th and the 27th of December. What I really need to know about is whether any shops will be open on the 26th. Do these open as usual and will the buses run as normal or will there be a reduced schedule? Thanks for your help.

It is possible that with a group of 15 friends we will meet in Thess. in February for a weekend. Need advice for budget accommodation and/or group discounts.

1. thessaloniki to Athens,
2. thessaloniki to Meteora and Meteora to thessaloniki
and
3. Meteora to Athens?


I will arrive thessaloniki from Istanbul and want to visit Meteora, may be overnight in Meteora and go to Athens on the next day or the same day by the night train.
Anyway, I have some problem with www.ose.gr, the railway, all names of places are spelled in Greek, even in the English version.

I am arriving in a few days at Thessaloniki airport and want to go via public bus transport to chalkidiki to Kassandra part. which bus do I have to take from the airport? I dDO NOT want to go all the way to Thessaloniki town first and then back to kassandra. Maybe one can also drive a few kilometers with a taxi to get to the correct bus line. so which bus is gong to say Petchokori? Thanks, Gerd

i ll arrive in thessaloniki in september an want to get by bus or train to Nei Pori.. i read here in the forum that ive got to take the KTEL line #78 to the bus station.. ill arrive in thessaloniki airport at 15:30.. my question is if there is a possibility to get by bus ot train to nei pori??
