Thessaloniki to Karditsa and back

How feasible is it (in terms of time) for a group of 10 people to travel from Thessaloniki to visit Karditsa (and surrounding Meteora, etc)and back to Thessaloniki? We have a week (or so) in Thessaloniki while waiting to get on the Holy Mountain and even though this is a little back-tracking, it will save us time so that we don't have to stop there on our way from Thessaloniki to Athens.
