Athens Easyjet and Aegean Airlines
Posted: Fri November 6, 2009 05:33 AM UTC
I just bought a roundtrip ticket from Rome to Athens in April 2010 and paid $140 US for it. This is pretty good, for a 2 hr flight. What can I expect from this airline/flight? Also, I am researching my flight from Athens to Santorini. The current price (with Aegean) is approx $280 US roundtrip. Is this a decent price for a 1hr flight?? I got this price from skyscanner.net. Should I wait for a sale, or is this the best I can get for this flight? Also, what can I expect from this airline/flight? Are they usually on-time? I want to catch the 7am flight back to Athens in order to catch my 1050am Easyjet flight back to Rome (same day). Thanks!

Athens Less than 24hrs in Athens
Posted: Fri November 6, 2009 04:10 AM UTC
In April 2010, I will have only a few hours in Athens before my flight to Santorini (4pm->9am) and as a scenic photographer I want to shoot some photos of the best ruins near the Hotel Attalos in the Plaka area. The Acropolis is on my list--is that enough for the time I have? What is the best time to visit without the main glut of tourists? I would imagine either early in the morning or afternoon, yes? The photos of my hotel show that they have a great rooftop area to photograph the Acropolis, however I noticed there seems to be a lot of scaffolding on it--is it the same for every vantage point? We'll be there in April 2010, so will the scaffolding still be there? Any tips to visit this place to get 'THE money shot' of this site? And where's the entrance? (is that a silly question?) thanks!

Athens 3 island trip questions
Posted: Tue November 3, 2009 01:14 PM UTC
ok I posted already about 2 islands, now we are thinking mykynos, naxos, santorini in that order, flying into mykynos, ferry to naxos, ferry to santorini and fly back to athens for a couple days before flying home. this will be beginning of sept, what do you generally do for 4/5 days on each island, i know we will have to allow for travel time but should we rent a car while on the islands and do beaches have chairs and shelter if we decide to spend the day on one? Anything else you can add or if you have other island ideas, feel free to suggest something, we know we want naxos or paros and santorini and thought of mykynos because of airport.

Athens Taxi Fares
Posted: Thu October 15, 2009 08:37 PM UTC
I understand that taxi fare from the airport to the Ledra Marriott at 115 Syngrou Avenue is about 50 euros, could someone tell what the taxi fare might be to the Piraeus Cruise Terminal?

I was going to take the Metro from the airport to the Marriott and also take it to the dock but my wife was concerned about the difficulty in changing trains with luggage, is this a concern? And, should I take a taxi instead?

I am not sure who might be answering this question but if you are a local citizen of Athens are there other drivers who would make this trip for less, like 30 euros vs. taxi fare from the airport?

Athens must see places in athens, greece?
Posted: Wed October 7, 2009 04:03 AM UTC
Me and my husband will be staying in Athenaeum Intercontinental Athens on Oct.16 to Oct. 19. We will be arriving at 2:35 am of the 16th and then we will be going to a holy land cruise on the 19th around noon time. Here are my questions:
1. how close is our hotel to the must see places like the Acropolis, Parthenon, etc.?
2. can we tour these places on our own or should we book some organized tour?
3. the best way to access these places ( mode of transportation), considering where our hotel is.
4. can you suggest a possible itenirary for us including the two sites I mentioned in #1?
5. what is the temperature in athens at this time of the year?
6. do we need to book entrance fees to these sites in advance? Thanks a million again for all your answers...THANK YOU TO ALL

Athens Greek election on next weekend -- any effects on tourists?
Posted: Mon September 28, 2009 03:02 PM UTC
Hi guys,
will there be any inconveniences for tourists due to the Greek election? I have heard that the New Acropolis Museum closes already at 14:30 on Sunday, Oct 4. Will there be any rallies/riots? I remember having read a German governmental travel advice that warns from violent demonstrations in Greece (not specificly due to the election).
Thanks for your answers.

Athens Piraeus to Acropolis
Posted: Sat September 26, 2009 05:13 AM UTC
Arriving on cruise ship in Piraeus. How do we get from the dock to the Metro Station. If we take a taxi (from the pier to the Acropolis), what is the approximate fee we should target in our negotiations? Tipping?

Any other help is appreciated.

We are going from Athens to Piraeus and from information provided by your site the best way to get there is by Metor from Monastiraki station.

Upon arrival in Pireaus what stop is best to go to locations where cruise lines depart. We will be travelling on Holland america on Oct 17th.

Athens From the Airport to Athens: Bus or Metro?
Posted: Tue September 8, 2009 09:19 AM UTC
Hi guys,

I'm arriving at Athens Airport in October this year at 15:30, and want to get to my hotel near Syntagma, so I could take the bus as well as the metro. What would you prefer? How long would be the time it needs? How often do the busses/metros run? Are the streets crowded which would slow down the bus?

And what about the return leg? I want to be at the airport at around 20:00.

Thanks for your help.

Athens Buses to Kalamata/Kardamili
Posted: Sun August 30, 2009 04:38 PM UTC
Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone has any information about buses from Athens to Kalamata or even better, the village of Kardamili. The websites I have found so far are in Greek, so difficult for me to figure out what it all means.

Also, how long does the journey take and would you recommend the trip by bus to people over 65?

Thanks!

Athens Bus to Delphi
Posted: Mon August 24, 2009 07:10 PM UTC
Hi guys,

I'm planning to go to Delphi from Athens by bus in October. On the internet I've found a site that says that tickets can't be bought in advance, whilst another one claims that they should be bought as early as possible, because the bus tends to be overcrowded. Which information is right?

In case I can't by the tickets in advance, how much earlier should I arrive at the bus terminal? And what about the return trip? Do I have to buy it in Athens or only in Delphi (I don't want to strand there)?

Thanks for your help!

Athens Best way from Venice to Athens
Posted: Sun July 26, 2009 09:46 PM UTC
In mid-May we're planning to go from Venice to Athens, by ferry or by train and ferry.
There are lots of possibilities: ferry from Venice to Athens, or train to Bari first then ferry to Athens, or train to Brindisi first then ferry; or any of those plus train from Patra to Athens.

Which parts should we sleep through, and which parts should we not miss?
Is the train ride down the eastern coast of Italy particularly scenic, or should we sleep through that? Is the ferry ride to Patra a nice view? To Athens? How about the train from Patra to Athens?

How would you recommend doing it?
Thanks.
