We will be visiting the area from April 1-11 and have just learned that the Greek holiday runs the week before and after Easter. Question is: in light of the Greek people vacationing in the area during this time, should we pre-book all of our stays throughout the Pelopponese? Other than pre-booking our Nafplio stay, we were going to make last minute bookings. I want to spend time in Monemvasia but have been informed that the minimum booking at Hotel Malvasia is 4 nights during Easter break. If we do stay there that long, what can we take in for day trips. Thank you for your assistance. May I now present my itinerary for your opinions?

April 1 - Athens to Nafplio - by bus

April 1,2,3,4 - 3 days/4 nights in Nafplio (hotel booked) - touring by bus

April 5 - Rent Car in Nafplio - drive coast to Monemvasia, spend 1 night

April 6 - Explore Monemvasia and Dirou Caves, drive north to Mystras, spend 1 night

April 7 - Drive east to Koroni, Methoni and Pylos, spend 1 or 2 nights

Drive North to Stemnitsa, Dimitsana, spend 1 or 2 nights

I'm thinking of staying somewhere closer to AThens the last night so our drive isn't long/stressful. Any ideas?

April 11th - Drive to Athens Airport, drop off rental car there. Flight leaves Athens at 1:30 pm, Sunday

I didn't plan on booking accommodations anywhere 'til we get there (other than Nafplio) using a mobile phone.

There will be 2 drivers to help with that task. Is this itinerary overdoing it?

From the lady who asked the question about taxi/bus travel from athens airport to Nafplio....she actually found the answer by applying herself to the existing wealth of information online. Who knew?

We will be landing in Athens @ 6:00 pm the night before Good Friday. It will be dark before we get into Nafplio, so I'm wondering about paying a taxi (how much) or whether an evening bus is possible from the airport. We are staying 4 nights in Nafplio. Can we see all the sights using public transport (Easter Weekend)? If this is doable, then we will rent a car after our four days in Nafplio to continue our exploration of the Peloponnese.

We will be in Nafplio with a cruise ship from 7am to 3pm and would like to go to see the theatre in Epidurus by bus. Please advise on how to do that.

Where is the main shopping street from where the tenders drop you off? How far is it?
What time do the stores/ restaurants open and close on a weekday?

We will be on a cruise ship stopping in Navplion for one-day. We aren't crazy about taking the organized tours promoted by the ship. Any suggestions for getting around the region. Looking for local tour company or transportation to Corinth, Mycenae and/or Epidaurus. I looked into car rentals and didn't find anything convenient. Have others found lots of options when they disembarked from the ship?

In May I will be travelling to Nafplio from Patras by public transport (I do not drive). Please can you tell me the easiest way to get there? When I leave I will be going to Piraeus and I would like to know the best way to get there and if it is possible to go directly or do I have to go via Athens.

We are looking for a campsite to stay in close to Nafplio. We have found two: Xeni which is close to Tolo and Posidon which is a bit further out but does have the bonus of a private beach. Has anyone stayed in either of these campsites? Or does anyone know of another campsite which is nice? We will be staying in our van and my parents who are coming to meet us will be renting a bungalow.

We're off to Nafplio next year (2009) for a friend's wedding and as there's a group of us who've all been good friends since school-days, we want to turn the event of a wedding into an excuse for a group holiday!

We're in our early-thirties (there'll be about 14-16 of us) and enjoy eating out in good restaurants and spending time in good bars. Equally we'll need get hold of a villa or two to house us!

Does anybody have any recommendations about where would be best to stay? Would Nafplio itself keep us entertained for a week? or is there a better alternative not too far away?

I'm trying to gather whether or not it would be realistic to see both ancient Mycenae as well as Epidaurus in one (long) day from Athens, using public transportation. There are many many guided tours that follow this path, but I'm hoping to be able to save some money and do it on my own.

We will base Nafplio for two days. We will walk around in Nafplio and drive around before returning car to ATH. We may drive all the way to Mystra. Any driving TIPS? It seems that the central Peloponesse is of mountain terrian, are the roads safe, what is the usual speeding limit there?

does anybody know how much it will be from kalamata airport to nafplio, in a taxi, or if there is a cheaper way,like bus or train, we had a car hire booked but have just found out we need a credit card, but we don't have one, any help would be great, we leave this sunday.

if not, does anyone know how or where i can get the schedule for buses from nafplio to tripoli, and from tripoli to olympia?

the LP guidebook says buses from athens to nafplio don't really stop at mycenae, they stop at fihtio (3 km away from the village of mycenae which is in turn 2km away from ancient mycenae). if this is so, how do i get from fihtio to ancient mycenae? is there any form of public transport for this?

also, it says there are 3 buses daily from mycenae to nafplio. would anyone know what time these buses leave?

btw, is half a day enough to see ancient mycenae?

Do I need to take the bus back through Athens and change buses (and bus stations) to get from Nafplio to Delphi? Or is there a better route?

This will be in late May if it makes any difference.

I'm going to be in Nafplio in early May. I would like to see Monemvasia but don't think driving down will fit into my schedule. I was told that there is a ferry or day boat tour you can take. I contacted one company that operates this tour but was told that they won't be running yet that early in May. Does anyone have any thoughts? suggestions for what I might do? other options? Thanks!

Where is the site of the ancient Palace with King Atreus' watchtower?

Did this exist in the Bronze age, during Argaememnon and King Atreus' time? Where are those ruins?

Is there a bus from the Athen Airport to Nafplio? Our flight is scheduled to arrive at 9:45 PM on September 13. We would prefer to spend our first night in Nafplio so that we will be closer to Epiduros & Mycenae.

Are there busses we can take from Nafplio to Kalambaka and Meteora?
