While I was in Fira a couple of weeks ago my friend saw a safari type hat with Greece written on it and wanted to get one but could not find his size. I was wondering if there was anyway I could get on line and get a hat like that for him.

Heading to Greece next week and we are getting alot of stories about muslim riots and anarchist riots and things like that. How bad is it really? Is it a war zone over there or what's going on? My wife is very nervous about this trip now. Any comment is appreciated but I would love to hear from locals (Greeks) and Americans who have recently traveled.

I just noticed there is mountainbiking in athens or around.. that would be very exciting if I could do that. I checked a few web pages but they're either in greek or no info :( ...

Has anyone done mtb'ing in or around athens? I would need somewhere to rent an mtb.....

This would probably be one of the best highlights for me :) .. mtb is my hobby in the US...

I thought I was staying "in" athens, but looking at my hotel's web page, it's a suburb of athens called Kifissia. How far is that from acropolis, for example, or the center of athens where everything is going on? I am confused b/c it says it's in the center of athens...

Any thought on the Semiramis hotel? It was recommended and seems very nice on their web page..

I will be arriving in Santorini for a couple days next month and just have some basic questions regarding getting from the airport to our hotel in Oia. Can anyone give an estimate of how long the drive is from the airport to Oia? Also, is it easy to just hail a taxi at the airport, or would it be better to arrange a pickup beforehand?

I understand most things are walking distance in athens, so I am wondering if it's worthwhile to hop on this bus so it takes specifically to the historical or cultural places I want to see.

Can someone tell me which of the stops should be key in not missing? I also read on here of a flea market, but haven't been able to locate it. Sounds like a good place to buy some souveniers / gifts to bring back

Reading through the archives I came accross some info on traveling to Delphi from Athens. As I see it's a 3 hour bus ride. Will I have to reserve a hotel in advance for June or are there hotels available around that time? Are the hotels in Delphi more reasonably priced than in athens? I am paying about 250 euros / night in athens, so wouldn't mind paying much less in delphi if possible.

If you needed to choose between delphi or athens to spend two days, which would you recommend? I've researched some on Athens and I can see there's definitely 2 days worth to do, but not sure on delphi.

The cruise ship charges $80 for the trip into Athens with tour of Acropolis. They charge $58 for just the trip. Seems I can catch the metro from Piraeus to the base of the Acropolis and be on my own from there to tour the Acropolis, right? Total cost maybe $20?

Hope someone can help me in this.

I was travelling in Athens May 12/13, 2009 and in the late afternoon of the 13th my friend and I both experienced our camera memory cards being erased as we walked dwon the steet quite near the Best Western Museum Hotel. (probably in a five block radius)They were so severly damaged that the pictures can't be restored even by a professional. Did anyone else experience the same problem or have any idea what it may have been that would have caused this?

I did a search on the forums and didn't come up with anything.

I am looking to see how much the hotel tax rate is in athens? I know it can add up to alot in some places, so want to have a true # on what the quoted nightly rate will be.

I did a google search but came up with different rates, ranging from 10% to 13.6%.

I am looking at possibly going to Rhodes from Crete as part of an itinerary. I would be in Heraklion. So far I've discovered in my research that ferries only go from the east part of Crete Island. is this true? And if I need to get to either Hania or Nikolas Agiolaos to get the ferry, how do I get there?

I also found that the only direct flight is with Olympic Airlines and its an evening flight. Everything else goes via Athens.

I´ll be travelling soon to Athens. I want to go right away to Delphi, but since my plane arrives late in the afternoon I might not get in time to catch the bus. I come from germany, so I don´t know if it makes sense maybe renting a car and drive it myself. Is it a good idea?? Or will I get lost in the way?? Is it cheaper for 2 persons to rent a car for one day as taking the bus (about 54 euros both ways)?

Hi All! I am a University student and I will be going to Athens for a month for a seminar in theatre. It's great, basically going to the motherland of Western Theatre from the end of June to the end of July. I am taking my son with me, who will be just about six months at the time and my mother is coming to watch him while I am in class/rehearsal. We are staying in the Plaka, either in a hotel or an apartment (they haven't told us yet). I was wondering a few things:

1. Are there many laundromats in Athens?
2. Can I get a Go-phone there?
3. What's the best way to exchange money?
4. I've heard Athens is not stroller-friendly. Any truth to that?

I'm open to any survival tips anyone has for staying in Athens. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go.

I'm planning an island hopping trip from Rhodes to Alexandroupolis in August and unexpectingly came across a problem with ferries to Samothraki. It seems that there are no ferries to Samothraki from neighbouring islands like Mitilini (Lesvos) or Limnos (at least they are not seen on the webpages on the major ferry companies). On the other hand, Lonely Planet and other tourist guidebooks mention that these ferry connections do exist. Can anyone clarify what's going on with the ferries in this part of the world and where the information on timetables can be obtained? Thank you!

Which is more feasible. The overnight ferry, departing at 10:00pm at arriving at 5:00am; the daytime ferry departing at 2:30pm and arriving at 7:00pm? Or, would one suggest flying over land travel.

I am going to be in athens for about a week on business and want to take 1-2-3? days taking some tours or visiting ?? I see alot of "tours" etc listed around, but what are the "must see" things in that time period? I do not want to rent a car, just hop on a tour bus and go... I don't know how many days I'll need to do what I want? It's kinda flexible.. I am going to Sweden for the same period aftewards.

Does anyone know if I need a CBT Part 1 to hire a Scooter in Skiathos ?

Hi, I am looking for some nice caldera view accommodation walking distance to fira, but not in the middle of the mayhem, up to about 100Euro. Hotel Keti looked good but is booked out. Maybe something similar? Also, I read someones question about folegandros. Sounds interesting. Can anyone tell me more about this place? Thank you very much for your time. Much apreciated.

We are getting alot of information regarding the rioting and bombing going on in Athens (we live in Canada)- can anyone tell me how bad things really are (or are not) there? We are planning a couple of days for visiting in Athens but now are considering just flying in and then out.

First time to Greece, so had a quick question. I've went on a few of the ferry websites to book a ticket from Piraeus to Ios on July 4. The amount for ONE WAY is 50 EUROS!!! Is this a reasonable price?? I am in shock at how expensive it is.
Just want to make sure I am not being ripped off.

I will be travelling from Volos to Athens this summer. I wanted to know what is a more reliable and faster means of transportation - the bus or the train. I need to catch a flight from the airport in Athens at 4 pm. I will be arriving in Volos via ferry at 8:30 am. If I take the bus, apparently I will arrive at the bus station in Athens and then have to take a taxi to the Larissa metro before getting to the Airport. If I take the train/rail I will arrive at the Larissa railway station and then take a metro to the airport. Is this correct? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I want to stay in Milos then Sifnos and then finish off in Mykonos. But how? I don't know how to get from Sifnos to Mykonos without going back to Piraeus. Any ideas??
