Easyjet and Aegean Airlines Posted: Fri November 6, 2009 05:33 AM UTC
I just bought a roundtrip ticket from Rome to Athens in April 2010 and paid $140 US for it. This is pretty good, for a 2 hr flight. What can I expect from this airline/flight? Also, I am researching my flight from Athens to Santorini. The current price (with Aegean) is approx $280 US roundtrip. Is this a decent price for a 1hr flight?? I got this price from skyscanner.net. Should I wait for a sale, or is this the best I can get for this flight? Also, what can I expect from this airline/flight? Are they usually on-time? I want to catch the 7am flight back to Athens in order to catch my 1050am Easyjet flight back to Rome (same day). Thanks!

Less than 24hrs in Athens Posted: Fri November 6, 2009 04:10 AM UTC
In April 2010, I will have only a few hours in Athens before my flight to Santorini (4pm->9am) and as a scenic photographer I want to shoot some photos of the best ruins near the Hotel Attalos in the Plaka area. The Acropolis is on my list--is that enough for the time I have? What is the best time to visit without the main glut of tourists? I would imagine either early in the morning or afternoon, yes? The photos of my hotel show that they have a great rooftop area to photograph the Acropolis, however I noticed there seems to be a lot of scaffolding on it--is it the same for every vantage point? We'll be there in April 2010, so will the scaffolding still be there? Any tips to visit this place to get 'THE money shot' of this site? And where's the entrance? (is that a silly question?) thanks!

Easter 2010 in Peloponnese Posted: Thu November 5, 2009 11:15 PM UTC
We will be visiting the area from April 1-11 and have just learned that the Greek holiday runs the week before and after Easter. Question is: in light of the Greek people vacationing in the area during this time, should we pre-book all of our stays throughout the Pelopponese? Other than pre-booking our Nafplio stay, we were going to make last minute bookings. I want to spend time in Monemvasia but have been informed that the minimum booking at Hotel Malvasia is 4 nights during Easter break. If we do stay there that long, what can we take in for day trips. Thank you, Carol

Photography--Santorini Posted: Tue November 3, 2009 07:15 PM UTC
I'm planning a 2 night stay on Santorini island in April 2010. I'm a scenic photographer and want to take the typical postcard photos of the white buildings on the cliffs with the sea in the distance etc etc (you know the ones!), and also of the blue-domed churches and maybe a windmill thrown in or two. Where are the best townsites/spots to take these photos without scads of telephone lines in the way? I was planning to book a room at the Shine Hotel in Imverogli (sp?) and it looks ideal except for those pesky telephone lines....Also, I heard there was a path linking Fira with Oia (another must-do, I think?). Is it harder to walk than the Cinque-Terre was in Italy or is it fairly easy? How long of a walk if I stop for lots of photos? I'm toting along my 73 yr old mother (who has climbed Huangshan mountain in China with me recently, so she suvived it well enough). Thanks!

3 island trip questions Posted: Tue November 3, 2009 01:14 PM UTC
ok I posted already about 2 islands, now we are thinking mykynos, naxos, santorini in that order, flying into mykynos, ferry to naxos, ferry to santorini and fly back to athens for a couple days before flying home. this will be beginning of sept, what do you generally do for 4/5 days on each island, i know we will have to allow for travel time but should we rent a car while on the islands and do beaches have chairs and shelter if we decide to spend the day on one? Anything else you can add or if you have other island ideas, feel free to suggest something, we know we want naxos or paros and santorini and thought of mykynos because of airport.

We will be arriving on our cruise ship to corfu for about 7hrs or so.. (1300-2000). How much should I expect to pay for a taxi at the port to take me to Achilleon palace? Are there taxi's available back or should I hire the same one to bring me back to Corfu town?

What's happening with Olympic Airlines? Posted: Mon October 26, 2009 05:05 PM UTC
Hi Folks;
For the last couple of summers we've from fron Manchester to Athens and back on Olympic - the times are good for us to get to the islands.
I can't work out what's happening next year - last week the Olympic website said they were no longer accepting internet bookings and now it's gone down totally.
Can anyone tell me what's happening? Better still, if anyone in Greece could tell me whether Olympic will be flying to Manchester next June that would be great!
Cheers,
Malcolm

Sensibility of Itinerary Posted: Mon October 26, 2009 05:12 AM UTC
Hello Wise Ones,
Thank you for your assistance. May I now present my itinerary for your opinions?
April 1 - Athens to Nafplio - by bus
April 1,2,3,4 - 3 days/4 nights in Nafplio (hotel booked) - touring by bus
April 5 - Rent Car in Nafplio - drive coast to Monemvasia, spend 1 night
April 6 - Explore Monemvasia and Dirou Caves, drive north to Mystras, spend 1 night
April 7 - Drive east to Koroni, Methoni and Pylos, spend 1 or 2 nights
Drive North to Stemnitsa, Dimitsana, spend 1 or 2 nights
I'm thinking of staying somewhere closer to AThens the last night so our drive isn't long/stressful. Any ideas?
April 11th - Drive to Athens Airport, drop off rental car there. Flight leaves Athens at 1:30 pm, Sunday
I didn't plan on booking accommodations anywhere 'til we get there (other than Nafplio) using a mobile phone.
There will be 2 drivers to help with that task. Is this itinerary overdoing it?
I appreciate all advice. Sincerely, Carol

Athens to Nafplio in the Dark Posted: Fri October 23, 2009 05:27 PM UTC
We will be landing in Athens @ 6:00 pm the night before Good Friday. It will be dark before we get into Nafplio, so I'm wondering about paying a taxi (how much) or whether an evening bus is possible from the airport. We are staying 4 nights in Nafplio. Can we see all the sights using public transport (Easter Weekend)? If this is doable, then we will rent a car after our four days in Nafplio to continue our exploration of the Peloponnese.

Ferries NOW - end October, beginning November - Samos- Kusadasi-Kos Posted: Thu October 22, 2009 01:47 PM UTC
HI - My original plan was to go to Kos - I am currently in Greece - then take the ferry to Samos and from there go to Kusadasi and continue up to Istanbul by bys - I am told there are no longer ferries between Kos and Samos in this season, by an agent for the grand lines -Are there local services? Are there ferries between Kusadasi-Samos? If there are no ferries between Kos and Samos I might have to go inland to Bodrum, up to Kusadasi then on to Samos - Thank you for your help - Jean

Taxi Fares Posted: Thu October 15, 2009 08:37 PM UTC
I understand that taxi fare from the airport to the Ledra Marriott at 115 Syngrou Avenue is about 50 euros, could someone tell what the taxi fare might be to the Piraeus Cruise Terminal?
I was going to take the Metro from the airport to the Marriott and also take it to the dock but my wife was concerned about the difficulty in changing trains with luggage, is this a concern? And, should I take a taxi instead?
I am not sure who might be answering this question but if you are a local citizen of Athens are there other drivers who would make this trip for less, like 30 euros vs. taxi fare from the airport?

Kusadasi to Santorini Posted: Tue October 13, 2009 01:42 AM UTC
I have a friend holidaying in Kusadasi right now who wants to get to Santorini and back to Kusadasi in the next day or two. I'm not having much luck finding out about ferries, as the websites are very confusing. Can anyone help me out with some reliable info as a matter of urgency. He has approached a travel agent in Kusadasi (he doesn't have a computer with him)and the travel agent has been no help whatsoever. Thanks in advance for your help.

Paranga Beach Bar Posted: Mon October 12, 2009 03:37 PM UTC
Hello,
My fiance and I are going to be in Mykonos next week (starting Oct 18th). I've been to the Paranga Beach during the summer before and it was the place to be. Does anyone know if it will be open this late in the season?
If you don't know, a recommendation on a comparable place will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Patrick

must see places in athens, greece? Posted: Wed October 7, 2009 04:03 AM UTC
Me and my husband will be staying in Athenaeum Intercontinental Athens on Oct.16 to Oct. 19. We will be arriving at 2:35 am of the 16th and then we will be going to a holy land cruise on the 19th around noon time. Here are my questions:
1. how close is our hotel to the must see places like the Acropolis, Parthenon, etc.?
2. can we tour these places on our own or should we book some organized tour?
3. the best way to access these places ( mode of transportation), considering where our hotel is.
4. can you suggest a possible itenirary for us including the two sites I mentioned in #1?
5. what is the temperature in athens at this time of the year?
6. do we need to book entrance fees to these sites in advance? Thanks a million again for all your answers...THANK YOU TO ALL

Double Whammy? Posted: Mon October 5, 2009 04:43 PM UTC
Lower our expectations? We are travelling to Santorini via cruise ship in November on a Sunday (off season & on a day of rest). Realistically, what can we expect to see open? Our game plan, if we are fortunate enough, was to cable car up to Fira, wander a bit over maybe over to Imerovigli for lunch and cab it to Oia. Will be find restaurants open? and sufficient cabs to visit/return from Oia without difficulty? Thanks for any suggestions.

Are their location near the city centre where all the tourist sopts are and is it in a safe area? Is December a low season in Greece and is there any budget hotel or hostels that are clean and the prices reasonable? Would appreciate it if anyone can provide some information on this. Thank You.

APOLLO THEATRE SYROS Posted: Sun October 4, 2009 09:37 PM UTC
i will be going to Syros for about 20 days in a couple of weeks and would be most interested to be able to see something at the Apollo Theatre. I did not find any events on the website and wonder if the theatre is only open during the summer. If there is any event on, I would be most interested in receiving it and some information as to how to book tickets on-line if possible. I visited the theatre and found it extremely beautiful, a small replica of the Scala here in Milan.
Thanking you in advance for any information you may be able to send me,

must see places in Athens, greece? Posted: Sat October 3, 2009 02:16 AM UTC
Me and my husband will be in athens, Greece for 2 days ( Oct.16-19) before we join the cruise to Holy Land. We will be staying in a hotel( I forgot the name). Any suggestion of places to go to make the most of our stay. Are there any nearby city to visit? What is the mode of transportation that will be easy and convenient? Since we will be doing this on our own, do we need Visa to stay there, we both are US citizens. Thank you

Month-long Low Season Stay Posted: Fri October 2, 2009 09:00 AM UTC
My girlfriend and I will be in Chania town for the entire month of January for a class I'm taking there. I'm looking for a studio at the minimum, potentially up to a 3-bedroom house/villa/apartment within 5kms of Chania town. Is there a site where I can find information for a stay of this magnitude, or can anyone point me to people to contact to find a rental?
Thanks :)
