2nd hand clothing stores in Estonia? Posted: Mon July 20, 2009 03:31 PM UTC
2nd hand clothing stores in Estonia?
I am looking for a shop selling second hand clothing in Tallin, and other cities in Estonia. These shops are often called thrift shops, or second hand shops. They sell clothes for 2, or 3 euro, good clothes, just 2nd hand. If you know the name of these shops in Estonia, or specific addresses where to find them, please let me know. Thanks

Tallinn to St. Petersburg by bus Posted: Sun June 21, 2009 02:45 PM UTC
We usually travel by car in Canada so this would not be an issue here . . . what do we do about food when travelling from Tallinn to St. Petersbug by bus. Do we take food on the bus and eat it there or does the bus stop quite often.
Thanks

The best of Estonia (nature)... Posted: Sun June 7, 2009 08:27 PM UTC
The best of Estonia (nature)...
I am planning a 2 week Estonia trip, after a 2 week Latvia trip this summer. I want to focus on pristine nature, and the great outdoors. If you know of any places off the beaten track (especially since I am going in summer, and I don't want to go to touristy places, especially tourist traps, rather quiet, untouched natural areas of Estonia. Anyways, if you live in Estonia, and are fond of nature, photography, and hiking, please help me. Thanks.
WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR:
1) memorable/dramatic scenery, landscape photography, or specifically where to find the best (viewpoints, vistas, natural views, panoramas, etc..)
2) also looking for the unique outdoors, and other amazing, breathtaking views?
WHAT I'VE FOUND SO FAR:
-Tartu, Elva Vitipalu Lake, Võrtsjärv Lake (northern or western shore), Karula National Park, Haanja National Park (access from Otepää)
-Parmu, Soomaa National Park , Matsalu National Park
-Saaremaa, Angla windmills, Kuressaare, Vilsandi National Park
-Hiiumaa island (ferry from Haapsalu), Sääre Tirp (Kaasari)
Thanks

Just thought i would ask... Posted: Wed April 29, 2009 03:56 PM UTC
Hello all
I saw a pic a few years back of a statue which i think was in Tallinn. It was a larger than life figure of a man sitting down with his knees up and resting his cheek into his hand. I think it's in a park somewhere in the city.
Sorry for the very poor description...
Hope someone knows the statue i'm on about. It might be some sort of modern art display. It mightn't even be in Tallinn at all! :)
Thanks everyone
DG

Controversial choice of sightseeing... Posted: Sun April 26, 2009 05:49 PM UTC
Hello all
I'm visiting Tallinn soon and i wanted to ask about something which has been controversial in Tallinn's recent history.
'The Unknown Soldier', the statue of the Soviet soldier which was moved from the city centre to a new location which caused the complaints from Russia amongst other things... Is it possible to see the statue now in its new location? And where is that new location? Does the statue still have a police guard? (I'm not 100% this is the case, just something i read on the net)
I know this is a controversial choice but i'm very interested in history, thus i would like to know if anyone can recommend any other memorials/monuments or landmarks which are related to the 2 world wars. Of course i will be visiting the KGB museum too while i am there.
Thanks everyone
DG

Self contained accommodation WITH baby cot in Tallinn? Posted: Sat April 4, 2009 11:32 AM UTC
Hi everyone
I'll be in Tallinn for 4-5 days in July and am travelling with a young baby. She's too young to sleep in a normal bed, so I'm looking for a place to stay that has a baby cot. Seems quite tricky to find these places on the internet... I'm actually looking for an apartment or house rather than a hotel... Self-contained is what I'm after.
Could anyone give me some tips as to where to start looking?
Many thanks!

Library of Tallinn University Posted: Fri February 20, 2009 05:28 PM UTC
I'm wondering if anyone has been to Tallinn for research at Tallinn University/Library. If so, is it easy to find out how everything works if you don't speak Estonian and is there English speaking staff that helps you with e.g. locating books etc.?

February in Tallinn Posted: Sat January 31, 2009 10:41 AM UTC
Hello - myself and two girlfiends are coming to Tallinn next weekend and I was wondering if anyone can recommend any bars, clubs we can go to. We like decent music (we are all in our 30's) and nowhere full of stag parties. Just somewhere where we can have a drink and mix with the locals.
Also can anyone recommend decent restaurants, not touristy - just good Estonian food? I've been to Tallinn before a couple of years ago so sort of know my way around. Is it really really cold aswell?!!
Look forward to hearing from someone. Thanks.

What to see in Tallinn Posted: Wed January 14, 2009 11:15 AM UTC
Hubby and myself are on a cruise that stops off in Tallinn in May this year. Does anyone know how far it is from where the ships dock to the centre of Tallinn. The trips are very pricey so we're thinking of "doing it ourself". What sights are a "must see".

Tipping in Tallinn Posted: Sun November 9, 2008 04:51 PM UTC
I'm sure this has been asked a hundred times but here goes... :) How much do you tip in Tallin and where? I am going on on spa holiday with a friend, and we are wondering if we should leave tip after treatments (e.g. massage), and how much (e.g. 10%, 15%)?
Thanks!

Boat from Estonia to Stockholm? Posted: Mon July 21, 2008 07:04 PM UTC
Hello all
I'm looking for cheap flights from Tallinn to Dublin but they are pretty much non existent.
I'm toying with the idea of getting a boat to Stockholm and flying home from there.
My questions are... is there a boat going to Stockholm and does it go to there from many locations in Estonia? Naturally i will be in Tallinn but it would be good to check out some other places too :)
Thanks everyone!

Tallinn to Stockholm & Tallinn to Riga. Posted: Tue July 8, 2008 07:44 PM UTC
Hi folks,
Hope this finds you all well. I'm going to be in Tallinn for the first time in mid-August. Will be arriving from Riga and leaving for Stockholm.
Coming in from Riga - does this have to be by bus or is there a rail connection?
And the ferry to Stockholm - it seems the cheapest way is to take a 4-berth cabin for around €140. There will be two of us, does anyone know if you can book the ferry any cheaper?
You can tell that I'm Scottish eh?
Will be grateful for any help,
Auldharry.

One day in Tallinn during mid-Aug Posted: Fri June 20, 2008 04:38 AM UTC
Hello folks,
So I am gonna get just one day in Tallinn during mid of August. I learnt that its not such a big town and I should be able to make it in a day. Easiest option I thought was taking a city ride bus. I found two -
City Tour - http://www.citytour.ee/index.php?id=426 and
City Sightseeing - http://www.citysightseeing.ee/index.asp
What I am not getting out of these two tours is, which one passes by more number of attractions and if they are worth it. I wish they could provide a map of places they pass by or something but couldn't find one.
City Tour gives some highlights on their different 'lines' but nothing by the City Sightseeing service.
Any comment from local VTer is most appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Tartu. ... feasible day trip? Posted: Sat June 7, 2008 09:47 PM UTC
I'll be in Tallinn in July. I've found the Estonian railway website, and quite fancy a daytrip to Tartu.
Is this feasible, do you think, or is is too much travelling for one day? And is there anything I should be wary of or know about beforehand?
How far is the railway station from the centre of Tartu?
