My self and a friend (Ages +/- 56) are planning to do the Nijmegen marches in July 2008 15th - 18th. We will be travelling from Northern Ireland (Belfast) and would like some advice on accommodation during the event. We would be happy with bed and breakfast accommodation or hotel. Somewhere where we can have a bed for a few nights, a meal and a nice hot bath/shower post event. We would also be very happy to stay with a Dutch family in private accommodation. We will be using public transport for our travels. I would be very grateful if you can provide any help with this request. Our wives will be 'doing' the cultural sights of Amsterdam while we are 'doing' our research into the science of blisters and how they are created! Thank you for your help.

I'm thinking of staying in Holland for the U21 football championships in June. I have been to Amsterdam and Arnhem a few times, as well as Rotterdam. Rather than just decide to base myself in Arnhem, which is a lovely city, but I think I have seen all there is to see with regard to bars, nightlife, restaurants etc. Is Nijmegan the same as Arnhem, or does it have more to offer? Or would you suggest I base myself in Eindhoven, as thats where my flight takes me too. I like to see new places all the time and I'm not knocking Arnhem, as I love it and have great friends there, I've just got a bit of that, "seen it, done it" feeling about basing myself there. I'd welcome any suggestions and reasons why to stay at any of the 3 cities I've mentioned.

After a grueling 11 hour car ride from Switzerland (with my fiance and her parents)the first day of the Vierdaagse was met with success by both myself and my 66 year old future father in law (The ladies weren`t walking). After one day, two deaths, several hundreds of heat related injuries, and the threat of a hotter second day, the 90th Vierdaagse was cancled .

I would think this would be big news in the Netherlands especially Nijmegen. The official site doesn`t say much (and nothing new since it was cancled), and I was wondering if perhaps someone local has heard anything more on this.

Me (im from austria) and my boyfriend (from germany) we want to do the "4 daagse marsch in nijmegen, but we dont have any possibility to sleep there for the few days...at somebodys home/house..

Pls..we need only a bed (for two ppl) and the possibility to wash and "clean" ourselfs for the few days in nijmegen!!
If the food is included we pay about to 120 Euro each..

Been enjoying the World darts this week from the Lakeside - an all-dutch final should be exciting! Thinking of possibly coming over to watch this tournament in May. Can anyone recommend any cheap accommodation & things to do whilst we are here. Looks like Nijmegen could be a nice place to cycle - is there places to hire bikes? Also, does anyone know if there's any minigolf courses in the city?

Everyone who replied said the bad things got to them and the culture. But what are the things exactly that made you not want to be there??

I recently visited the Netherlands. This isn't really about Nijmegen...it's about the whole country. I just came home Sunday april 10th and it has been a culture shock to come back to America. I cannot get used to it. I miss the way of life in Holland. I was only there for 2 weeks. I know I don't know everything after such a short period of time. But I fell inlove with that way of life. I like all the bike riding and caring about the environment. I like how people are more upbeat/friendly and say hi and bye or randomly start conversations in stores/cafes/restaurants. I like how beautiful it is and the way people take care of their homes and surroundings. It is a completly different world from here. But I like that world. I never really liked America. I am born here and I am only 20 and in my second year of college. I also need to leanr the language. Is it crazy to want to live in another country. If there is anyone who could speak to me, tell me more about Holland and things I might not know. Or if anyone has moved their from another country or America also. I have a friend who lives upstairs who is dutch. He moved here because he met and American online and they got married. He is a doctor...so yes he has more opportunities here. He and also the family I stayed with say it is not as great as I think and there are bad things to. But I believe there are good and bad things everywhere. But I think in Holland the good outweigh the bad. He also mentioned that in Holland people in work are acknowledged by their age and not their work. Whether that is true or not for me work is just a way of survival and hopefully you can do something you enjoy. But I have never made that my life. I just want to be happy and live a nice life. I care more about the overall lifestyle I live rather than being a CEO of a company. Am I crazy...to want to live there. Please help or talk to me. I am planning to go to Paris or Nijmegen in for tango at the end of December ultimately I would like to be in Nijmegen for New Years. I am debating whether to fly into Paris or Amsterdam.
How do I find a train schedule and prices from Paris to Nijmegen? If you have a rough idea of the price that would be great. Also, If you have information on the approximate price on the bus that would be helpful too.

I would like to have your opinion about the following:

What do you think about organizing a VT meeting during the 4-daagse.(Nijmegen March) Third week of July? I think this is the perfect event to show other VT user our city. Because of the wide range of activities, there is something to do and enjoy for everyone.

Hello, I'm a Spanish student of Computer Sciences. Next course I will study in the university of Nijmegen, and I want to find a job there, can someone tell me where can I start searching (a website, an address...)?

I just recently moved to Nijmegen. Before moving here I had a job in Zwolle and now that I am here I am having a difficult time finding work since I cannot speak the Dutch language.

The only jobs really available are cleaning jobs. Can someone help me? I will do precatically anything else... production, warehouse....etc.

I've been to many job centres and still not a good turn out. Please help!!
