Utrecht Happy at home and at school ...
Posted: Mon October 1, 2007 04:02 PM UTC
Hi everybody

Thanks so much for all the help and encouragement.

As I had written once earlier I did find a home and I shifted here on the 15th of Sept. And its a really nice and convenient place for all of us. Its also close to the school ... and furnished. So that helps too.

Also I have joined the school program and its started at a very fast but interesting pace. As I had said I am doing my MBA at TiasNimbas Business School on Kromme Nieuwegracht. Its also associated with the Bradford School UK. We have students from 20 different nationalities and the staff and students all are very very helpful. I really feel grateful for this opportunity and am very happy with the life and people in Utrecht.

I also find the dutch people very helpful and cooperative ... from shopping malls to railway stations. I must say that ...

I am also starting to pick up a few dutch words ... gourda morgen, gourda middag, Gourda avond, dunke wel, asableuf ... etc. Not the right spellings and pronunciations but am improving daily.

I love this place .... and so while I am here if I can be of help to anybody please let me know.

my contact details are -

Dr Nilesh Atre

Phone - 0624917077, email aten303@yahoo.co.in

Also I will stay in touch on the website here ... ofcourse.

Is there any chance of meeting any one of you guys in Utrecht when you are passing here or when I travel a bit around ... How does one arrange a meeting?

I would really really love that.

Also to talk with you guys on the phone if thats an option

Best regards
and thanks

Utrecht URGENT: Couple with pet looking for Accomodation
Posted: Mon August 27, 2007 09:53 PM UTC
Hi all -

This is Nilesh and Janhavi.

We are quite concerned and I want to ask for URGENT HELP regarding our accomodation. Well my MVV has been approved. My wifes visa will come in soon. Our tickets are booked for 15th Sept. on Lufthansa. But we are finding it very difficult to find even a single accomodation option. Our budget is around 800 Euros and I might even add some more if required. Just any accomodation within travelling distance of 'Kromme Nieuwegracht. that is TiasNimbas School at Utrecht' will do. For a couple with a dog.

I am regularly in touch with -

Rent-a-house
B and S Rental Services
Rots vast
viziervastgoed
Quwest

But am unable to find 'any' accomodation.
What do I do? If you know somebody who has an accomodation...
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Best regards

Utrecht Utrecht budget accommodation
Posted: Fri August 24, 2007 06:11 AM UTC
Greetings VT'ers!

I'm going to study in Utrecht for a year, but my flight arrives 6 days before my room is available, so I am looking for the best choice to stay at those few days considering a budget that didn't include such expense at first. So far, I have done some research and found out 2 cheap options: Hostel B&B Utrecht City Center and Strowis Budget Hostel. Could anyone give me any advice, opinion or tip about these options (or any other if available) so I can take a better informed decision? I will be greatly thankful for your asnwer.
Best regards,

Utrecht amsterdam V Utrecht
Posted: Fri September 8, 2006 10:56 PM UTC
I have booked a flight into Amsterdam next week for 3 days but
the hotels either look to expensive or are reviewed very badly.
The hotels in Utrecht look a lot better at more resonable rates.
I have been to The Dam a couple of times and know what is all about
but everything, meals, drinks seem to have taken a major hike since it went euro.
Is Utrecht a good alternative and does it offer the same sort of attractions but on a smaller scale and at more reasonable prices.
Can any recommend any good 4* hotels that they have had good deals at, that is close to the centre/station.

Cheers

Utrecht Bilthoven, Utrecht Province
Posted: Wed April 5, 2006 03:02 AM UTC
I would like to learn about the city/town of Bilthoven. Is there a govt office where I could obtain basic facts - population, spread of ages, existence during WWII - upper level educational resources, historical resources.

Thank you in advance for steering me in the right direction. Also, are there hotels inthe city or nearby? I located Bilthoven on the map, but I cannot pinpoint hotels. Even though I am a bit creaky in my joints, I still have some energy moving through my veins. And so I must figure out "what next" ??

This forum appears to be one of the better sources that I have
encountered. Thank you again. W

Utrecht retrieve lost and found properties
Posted: Sun October 2, 2005 09:54 AM UTC
Dear VTers,

I am writing to ask you for help.
I have been looking for a bracelet and a pierce, probably lost somewhere on my way from Brussels to Amsterdam via Antwerp on 24th of August.
Within that week, I tried to reach NS lost property office but gained no reply. I sent a request form from Dutch page though I am not quite sure if it was received.
A hotel reception staff helped me to call it but never reached for some reason with the number on the web.
http://www.ns.nl/servlet/Satellite?cid=1083234338255&pagename=www.ns.nl%2FPage%2FArtikelPage_www.ns.nl&lang=en&c=Page
She also gained the contact address from the phone directory for me, but that number also didn't work.
Could someone please help me to contact the office?
No reply means there are no found (similar) properties?
Or are there anywhere else I should ask for information?

Please fine-tune me.
Thank you very much for your support in advance!

Sincerely,
Masako

Utrecht french question around strange people of utrecht..!
Posted: Tue May 3, 2005 04:22 PM UTC
bonjour,

: )

merci d'avance pour vos réponses...

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

[ google 's traduct ]

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I return from one weekend to Utrecht - where I assisted with the festival of the queen - with questions full the head...!
before festival I have noticed that it was almost impossible to cross glance of somebody in street,
that people seemed to be unaware of, that people never did not excuse themselves when they were obstructed,
nor did not thank themselves for a gesture gallant or attentive.
the impression that I had compared to people that I crossed it is that all was owe them...
then I imagine that the courtesy also exists on your premise and
that you have a way of approaching the things which I do not understand...

then the festival came...! then my friends.. Utrecht ruined in one afternoon,
Utrecht under the corpses of beer goblets, and there under orange foam: cordial people, starting the discussion...
singing, dancing on the least boat, the places, in the streets, pissing of the bridges(!!!), throwing all with the channels,
there I is it is not possible they are not the same ones.!?

... and then with 22h the hour when the festivals start in France, that finished... (!)

here are could somebody explain me this difference in attitude.?
and since that nobody is calculated in the street, and that nevertheless you are people which remain,
where meet you?..!?

: )

I hope the google's traduct is ok and thank those which will answer me
best regards..

; )

Utrecht Utrecht Central station
Posted: Wed March 2, 2005 01:42 AM UTC
Our hotel in Utrecht is on Westplein. It is close to the station we will arrive at from the airport. There is a shopping mall, 'Hoog Catherine'. This mall is built over the station, I think. Does the station connect directly to the mall and can we get to 'Park Plaza' hotel by going out through the mall? It looks like it is close but looks can be deceiving. The hotel said we should go through a tunnel to get to the hotel.
Thanks

Utrecht Hotel or B&B near Uithof (University Utrecht)
Posted: Thu February 24, 2005 03:17 PM UTC
Hello!

I am spending a week at a conference by the end of July
in University of Utrecht, in Uithof neighborhood.
I know the University is 15 min.
away from the city center. I'd like to have some suggestion
for hotel / Bed&breakfast for

1) Staying near the University of Utrecht; or if this is not possible
2) Staying in Utrecht city center.

In both cases, for "reasonable" I would like to find
some option around 80-100 euros per night, double room.

Thank you very much for your help!!!

Utrecht Mass in Utrecht
Posted: Thu February 24, 2005 12:38 AM UTC
My daughter & I want to attend a Mass in the Domkerk on the Sunday we will be in Netherlands. Is this still a functioning Catholic church? If so, what are the Mass times. We had considered attending Mass at St. Jans in den Bosch, but there may be a timing problem for other things we have planned for Sunday.

Utrecht Schiphol by train to Utrecht
Posted: Sat February 12, 2005 02:56 AM UTC
We plan to take a train to Utrecht from the airport. I have seen schedules that show direct (no change) to Utrecht takes 60 minutes, or change in Duivendrecht that take about 40 minutes. What is best?

Also, can we buy a return ticket that we will not use until we leave about one week later, or must it be bought separately?

The whole train situation has me confused, especially the part of validating tickets before getting on the train. Is there a site that explains all of this? I am used to just handing the ticket to the conductor.

Thanks
