Cologne New Year's Eve / Silvester in Cologne/Köln
Posted: Wed December 5, 2007 07:41 AM UTC
Hi! I will spend Silvester in Köln, but also visit Düsseldorf the days before.
I am going together with my girlfriend, what would be a good plan for Silvester?

We don't feel like big parties, but any special event, must do activity or whatever we could do or dinner somewhere nice would be welcomed.
What do you recommend me?

Thanks!

Cologne Group accommodation search
Posted: Mon October 15, 2007 08:33 PM UTC
Hi, I need help!

I'm trying to book accommodation in Cologne for a group of 11 girls and I can't find much, we only want to spend about £20 per person per night. We don't mind a hotel/apartment/hostel. We want a central location, or if not central then at least in an area with restaurants and bars.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Cologne Transport from Cologne airport to Nuremberg
Posted: Tue October 9, 2007 10:17 PM UTC
We are a group of nine travelling from UK and landing at Cologne. I am looking for transport to Nuremberg. I am having no luck with www.bahn.de for group travel prices. What might we expect to pay? Are there bus alternatives? If so what price and how long would it take?

Many thanks

In the end of Oct. I will work in a trade show in Duesseldorf for ten days, but I will stay at a host house in Heler Strasse in Cologne. Is Heler Strasse close to the Railway Station? Are there any interesting scenic spots around? Some shops would be open very late?

Cologne Four months in Bonn or Cologne??
Posted: Thu July 26, 2007 02:57 PM UTC
Hi, Just hoping for a bit of advice - in a few months I'm working in Bonn on a project until the end of the year. Whilst I think Bonn is quite nice, I've been living in Prague for 3 years, and london before that, so used to a bit more buzz and nightlife.
Looking at train times living in Cologne would add probably an extra 35 minute commute each way (which is slight annoyance but would be able to offset if Cologne was much better place to live)
Could anyone recommend areas to live in Cologne (expenditure not a primarily focus) and a slightly impartial view as to whether Cologne would be worth the extra effort)
Thanks a lot Richard

Cologne Help with train trip connecting to flight
Posted: Thu April 26, 2007 08:09 AM UTC
Hi,

I am having a bit of a dilemma. I have found really cheap train travel from Vienna to Cologne (SparSchiene tickets) which are available. The train will arrive in Koln at 6:05 pm. Trouble is I want to connect to a cheap Paris flight which leaves CGN at 7.10pm which is not really enough time to checkin etc, or is it??.
I am wondering if the Koln station is the same one as the airport, or if one of the previous train stations before Koln is the airport station (i.e Bonn)??
Please unconfuse me!!

I thought I had this trip worked out, cheap to boot, but the times had to be stupid didn't they.

Cologne Trying to find name of Kohlsch beer around the Cathedral
Posted: Tue April 10, 2007 01:25 AM UTC
OK...I realize that this is a shot in the dark, but a few years ago, we took a trip to Europe and spent a day in Cologne. It was a rainy miserable day, but we took solice in one of the local pubs. We had a WONDERFUL Kohlsch beer but we have no idea which kind we had. What I can tell you is that if you were walking down the steps outside the cathedral toward the spire that rests on the ground, the pub was just to the right of that across the street. It seemed a bit like a local's place rather than a touristy place but again - I could be wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cologne The Dorm is always under construction?
Posted: Sat April 7, 2007 05:15 AM UTC
Recently I'm planning to visit Coln in June. I would like to visit the great Dorm. But on some traveling fourms some people said the great Dorm was always under construction so it looked not so beautiful as they thought before.
I just want to know if it's true. If so then I may change my route to other cities in Germany or a castle tour by boat.

Cologne Cologne Guesthouse, Accomodation Question
Posted: Thu April 5, 2007 03:39 PM UTC
Hello everyone,

I'll be in Cologne for a few days in May and just my luck there's a trade fare going on the week I'll be there so most cheap hotels are either fully booked or have oscenely high rates. That said I'm looking for a double room somewhere around 50ish Euro a night that's in a fairly central location. I'm not picky and couldn't care less about how many stars it is or sharing bathooms etc. My only concern is price, location and 24 hour access.

I came across one place that sounds perfect albeit a little shady too. Has anyone here ever stayed at a place simply called "Cologne Guesthouse" in Brusseler Platz? The price and location are a good match, but I'm curious how reliable the proprietor is, as one is supposed to call then meet him/her at a nearby taxi stand to pay/get keys.

I've stayed in a similar place in Berlin where you need to go to the woman's shop to get keys to a nearby building and I loved it. It was more like a mini appartment than a hotel. I'm just curious if anyone else has stayed here in Cologne and if the proprietor is reliable or if I'll be calling/waiting all day for the guy to show up?

Also if anyone can reccomend another cheap place, I'm all ears.

Thanks!

Cologne urgent: Cologne and Rhine Valley
Posted: Tue April 3, 2007 11:20 PM UTC
We're leaving for Amsterdam via Cologne tomorrow. And we have 1 day at Cologne. When i was there 7 years ago i took a train to Frankfurt. There were great castles and wine villages along Rhine.

We rented a car so it would be better to visit these cute villages too...

I'd like to learn how to get Bacharach from Cologne by car. Which road do we have to take? (I saw B9 on the internet but not sure...) Also is it possible to follow coastline of Rhine? I couldnt remember if there are any road for cars or if it was just for trains.
