Cologne Is the city center walkable from the train station?
Posted: Sat July 12, 2008 08:18 PM UTC
We'll be off to Cologne in a few days time and I wonder if the city center is walkable from the train station.
Is it practical to buy the "Welcome Card" that costs €9 or just a 24-hour transport card?

Also, has anyone already stayed at the Classic Harmonie Hotel at the center of Cologne? Any reviews?

Tips for this trip will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Cologne Where to stay near Maritim Hotel in Heumarkt? (or with easy access to it?)
Posted: Mon April 28, 2008 11:53 AM UTC
Hello everyone,

I need to go to Maritim Hotel on Heumarkt street every day for a few days when I visit Cologne. I want to find an alternative 2 or 3 star hotel near Maritim Hotel (which has 4 stars). It may even be a bit further away from Maritim, as long as there is easy public transportation between the two, such as a bus connection. Does anyone have a recommendation for such a hotel?

Thanks,

Hakan

Cologne driving & parking
Posted: Wed April 2, 2008 04:20 PM UTC
Planning a day trip driving to Cologne for Sunday, April 27 but was wondering what kind of traffic problems I may encounter?

We'll be crossing the Rhein on the Zoobrucke/55a; and then coming down the Konrad-Adenauer-Ufer; hope to park somewhere near the Hauptbanhof.

How heavy is the traffic on a typical Sunday?
Is the 27th a typical Sunday (nothing special which may cause traffic problems)?
Any other advice or tips would be much appreciated.

Cologne Name of Olive Oil shop in Cologne?
Posted: Wed March 12, 2008 11:30 PM UTC
When I visited Cologne 2 years ago, I remember seeing a wonderful shop where there were many different kinds of empty bottles that you could fill up with different olive oils.

Can anyone tell me what the shop is called and if they have a website?

Thank you

Cologne Rhine Cruise Question
Posted: Mon January 21, 2008 08:18 PM UTC
I have looked on www.k-d.de, and am trying to figure out how much it would cost to cruise down the Rhine from Cologne to Koblenz, and then from Koblenz to Wiesbaden, but I somehow cannot interpret their price-chart. Sorry, it's a stupid question but help would be appreciated.

Cologne This weekend in Cologne
Posted: Wed January 16, 2008 11:10 AM UTC
Hi All
I'll be in Cologne this weekend, arriving Sat morning and leaving Sun evening.

I have accomodation sorted and thanks to good VT tips, I have an idea of where to go to shop til I drop, what beer to order (and how to ensure my glass is not refilled automatically) and a couple of ideas for dinner on Saturday evening.

So my two questions are:

Which restaurant would you pick between Frueh, Haxenhaus, Rheinterrassen and Gaffel-Haus for dinner on Saturday taking the January weather into consideration? (we want traditional German food), or would you pick another still?

Is there anything going on at the moment that we should not miss? A spacial market? An exhibition?

Many thanks

A, looking forward to curry wursts, kolsch and yogurettes

Cologne New Year's Eve / Silvester in Cologne/Köln
Posted: Wed December 5, 2007 08:41 AM UTC
Hi! I will spend Silvester in Köln, but also visit Düsseldorf the days before.
I am going together with my girlfriend, what would be a good plan for Silvester?

We don't feel like big parties, but any special event, must do activity or whatever we could do or dinner somewhere nice would be welcomed.
What do you recommend me?

Thanks!

Cologne Group accommodation search
Posted: Mon October 15, 2007 09:33 PM UTC
Hi, I need help!

I'm trying to book accommodation in Cologne for a group of 11 girls and I can't find much, we only want to spend about £20 per person per night. We don't mind a hotel/apartment/hostel. We want a central location, or if not central then at least in an area with restaurants and bars.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!
