Public Transportation in Cologne Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 08:08 PM UTC
Wow, the VRS site isn't too user friendly. Can anyone help me determine the cheapest form of city transportation? My wife and I will be staying there on September 7 - 11. Is the "Welcome Card" the best way to go or should we just buy the Daily Passes?
Thank You!

Trains To Amsterdam Posted: Tue June 23, 2009 09:01 PM UTC
I tried to purchase all my train tickets (On Line)from Paris to Amsterdam via Cologne but the last leg of my journey was put "On Hold". Rail Europe states that there are construction issues from Cologne to Amsterdam. Should I cancel that leg and try when I'm there or wait until they confirm. Our trip is in September and I was already unable to get the economy seating.
Thanks,
Ken

Train Travel from Bruges to Cologne Posted: Tue June 16, 2009 12:16 AM UTC
I'd like to take a fast train from Bruges to Cologne in late September, 2009. Any recommendations for trains, from what station to what station, websites from which to purchase tickets, and perhaps a boutique-style hotel in Cologne not too far from the train station. Thanks for any help.

Looking for ground transportation to F1 Nurburgring July 10-12 Posted: Mon June 15, 2009 10:26 PM UTC
Hello,
We are staying in Cologne for the F1 race, but need to get back and forth. Staying downtown so I can't really rent a car.
Does anyone know of a shuttle bus service I can contact that might run daily shuttles to the event? I know I can take the train to Koblenz and get a shuttle, but that sounds like 2 hours each way, 2x a day for 3 days...
Any help appreciated.

From Cologne-Bonn Airport to the Cologne central railway station? Posted: Sat June 13, 2009 11:41 PM UTC
Hi all!
I am about to travel in Monday from Cologne-Bonn airport to the central railway station in Cologne. I have some questions:
1. As far as I know, I will land in Terminal 1 (because I am flying with Germanwings), so how can I get to the railway station which is under terminal 2 in order to get the train?
2. How do I buy a ticket and do I have to validate it somewhere?
3. How do I know which train do I need - I say different S13 lines with different routes?!
4. How do I know Exactly where I get off? I don't speak ANY German at all :(
All relevant information will be useful ;)
Regards!

Movie Park, Husseldorf to Cologne, Cologne-Bonn. Posted: Wed April 29, 2009 01:33 PM UTC
Hi people! I am planning a very short trip to Husseldorf the first days of June, to go to Movie Park. But I'd like to visit at least 2 other cities, 1 day each. The cheapest the better for me. Are there Only trains (no buses?) between Dusseldorf and Cologne? how long is it from Cologne to Bonn and how much? Is transport frequent? How far is movie park from Husseldorf?
Any suggestions? Than you for helping me plan this trip!

AMSTERDAM AIRPORT TO COLOGNE Posted: Mon March 23, 2009 03:16 PM UTC
Hi Everyone, I can't find information on the web on how to get from Amsterdam Airport to Cologne. I am arriving at 7:05a and need to be in Cologne by 13:00
so it has to be a nonstop. The KLM flight leaves at 8:30a. Is this enough time?
Anyone else besides KLM do it? I'm finding prices of $512 for a RT. Yikes, for a one hour flight!! Any cheap way to get a KLM ticket like a consolidator or travel company you can share?
I would train but information is confusing. Is there a DIRECT train to Cologne without changing or going into Amsterdam Central? I have been on www.bahn.de but it wasn't helpful about options.
And lastly how much time do I need between my flight arrival and the train?
Any information or websites will be VERY GREATLY APPRECIATED!!
THANKS SO MUCH! Lorac

Cologne Questions Posted: Thu March 19, 2009 03:01 PM UTC
I will be travelling to cologne next week for a fair and since the entire world is converging there, no hotels are available now for less than 350 EU.
I have booked myself at a guest house in Bruhl near Cologne.
what is the best way of getting from Cologne airport to Bruhl. I will be carrying heavy luggage.
And then from Bruhl to Cologne Fair?
Is it practical to stay in Bruhl since I would be going every day to cologne and back or should I try to find something closer.
Thanks

I'm staying in Cologne next week and have noticed Borussia Monchengladbach are at home on the Friday night (returning hom Saturday afternoon so this is my only option). Is this near enough to get to and from Cologne to the ground? Would I be welcome (english football fan) and any idea how much it would be?
Thanks in advance.

Cologne airport to train station? Posted: Fri March 6, 2009 05:00 PM UTC
Hi all!
I bought a ticket for Germanwings and I should land in Cologne in 17.40 on 15th June. I never used Germanwings before, do you think I can count on the schedule?
Then, I need to go from Cologne to Tilbourg, I read that the cheapest way is by train. And I need to book the train ticket now, cause later it would be much more expensive. Do you think this plan is OK?
I never was in Cologne before, can you please tell me how can I reach from the airport to the train station and how long does it take, in order to know what ticket to buy? And I am looking for some public transportation option, cause I assume that traveling by taxi would be more expensive...
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Pipia

Considering going to Cologne next month Posted: Wed January 7, 2009 12:15 AM UTC
I am considering traveling to Cologne next month and am debating whether to go the weekend of Karneval or waiting till the next weekend so I can see a football match at Dortmund and in Cologne (I am a HUGE football/soccer fan and is a major reason why I chose this region to begin with). By the way, the weekend of Karneval, Schalke 04 (against Borussia Dortmund) and Borussia Monchengladbach have home games. Keeping these interests in mind, which weekend would be a better choice to the members here with knowledge of Cologne and these football stadiums?

A 17 Year Old Visiting Cologne for 2 Months in the Summer Posted: Mon December 22, 2008 10:40 PM UTC
My child needs to find an inexpensive place to stay and plan for staying in Cologne for two months after her High School graduation in 2010. So far, it is very hard to find hotels in Cologne for a good price that will even house her because of her age. I was wondering that there might be any courteous families or responsible people who may need a roommate for so long so that she can stay for a smaller price? It is her graduation gift from us, we just want her to stay comfortably and have enough room to meet people and have her fun.

After trying to put together the perfect itinerary for our trip, it seems the only day we will be able to get to Cologne will be on a Monday in June. Will there be many attractions closed this day? What would you recommend we should see that is open on a Monday?

Burg Eltz as a half-day trip from Cologne Posted: Tue September 23, 2008 10:01 PM UTC
Hi,
I am in Cologne for a week and have half days free. Was thinking about going to Burg Eltz one of these days. It could either be in the morning (free UNTIL 2pm) or in the afternoon (free AFTER 2pm). It's a bit crazy but doable I think?
Would you recommend renting a car? If so are there any inexpensive car rental agencies in the Koln HBF?
I was thinking I could also take the train. A bit more hassle free perhaps than driving. It's a 2-hr train running every hour from Cologne to Cochem. It looks like the closest train station would be Cochem, is this correct? What do I do once I get to Cochem? Is it a good hike from the Cochem train station to the castle? Do you just show up and can tour or is there a specific time?
thanks!

12 hours on a Sunday Posted: Tue September 9, 2008 12:31 PM UTC
I have about 12 hours between flights to see the town. I can walk the Old city, embankments and parks for a good 8 hours if the weather is nice. However, what to do if it rains or when I just get tired? Is there some swiming/bathing place near the station? Are there any shops open on Sunday? Anything else where I could relax and kill some time without eating or drinking beer? Any suggestion will be appreciated :)

Looking for good brew pubs - bars in the Aldstadt area or near the main train station Posted: Thu August 28, 2008 11:47 PM UTC
We'll be in Cologne for 2 days and looking to drink a lot while we're there. We're hoping to find good food and beer in the same place. We also would like a change to drink rum vodka or gin. Any good options that won't cost us our life savings? We're cheap!

One night stay. Recommendations? Posted: Sun August 17, 2008 08:42 PM UTC
Three of us are coming over from the USA to go to the Belgian Grand Prix races in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. We'll be staying in Brussels most of our stay but would like to drive over to Cologne one night after the race. Any recommendations on where to stay would be appreciated. We'd like to drive as far into the city as possible, then park our car, and take taxis the rest of the time. Thanks!
