Hotel Tax in Tallinn (Estland)? Posted: Tue June 28, 2005 05:53 PM UTC
Is there a tax or service charge added to the hotel rates in Estland? When I do a search over the hotel section in virtualtourist there are only vague information about that (i. e.: All prices include taxes, however in some countries, a local tax is charged in addition to the room rate and/or a service charge may be included. )
Thanks!

Eurolines bus from Tallinn to Riga Posted: Wed June 1, 2005 11:34 AM UTC
Hi, I've just booked a return bus ticket online from Tallinn to Riga.
Its the 149 bus which leaves at 12pm on each journey. Is this trip ok? Is the bus good or not? Is there any trouble at the border?
Also, where do I get the eurolines bus from? Is it just at the bus station?
Thanks!
Jonny.

Private Accomodation Posted: Fri May 20, 2005 09:02 AM UTC
I was considering trying a private accomodation and was wondering if anyone knew anything about the company. The rooms are booked through a private company called Bed and Breakfast. They advertise as having all their rooms located in the center of town. I'll be traveling alone and wonder if this is a safe option, etc. Any thoughts????

Another Odd Query...... Posted: Tue May 10, 2005 10:33 PM UTC
Hello All!
This time I am wondering where to go to see wildlife---> the non-vodka drinking kind! I mean animals in their natural habitat. Are there places where you can interact with animals? Is the Zoo in Tallinn recommended? Any ideas are welcomed.

Culture Yes, but first Rugby!! Posted: Thu March 17, 2005 12:16 PM UTC
We're really looking forward to coming over to Tallinn Saturday morning for a 4 Day break! We're staying at the Tatari 53 Hotel and from what I've heard, it's only a 15 min walk to the main square in the old town, hopefully!
But before we get into proper tourist mode, culture etc. We have a pressing engagement - I need to find a bar that might be showing the Wales v Ireland Rugby game!
Can anyone let me know where the best or most likely place is going to be and depending on the result - where we could carry on celebrating? It looks from my small bit of research on VT, that we're not going to be short on options of watering holes!
Also, what's the update on the Baltic Sea - are we likely to be able to get the fast ferry over to Helsinki for a day/night trip or are we better looking at a helicopter ride? If that's too expensive, would we be able to get the slow ferry (ice cruncher) one way and get the helicopter back & if so, which way around's best?
Cheers

Must See Places Posted: Thu March 10, 2005 02:39 PM UTC
We're off to Tallinn in a few days time, staying at the Unique Stay Hotel for 3 nights from 13th March. What are the places we should not miss seeing while we are there? Will museums etc be open at this time of year?
Also, are we likely to find any bars with live music in the form of rock or blues bands during these days? And of course, what's the weather like right now? :)

Accomodation in Tallinn Posted: Sat February 12, 2005 01:13 AM UTC
Hi there
I am visiting Tallinn in May 2005 with my girlfriend. We are looking for budget accomodation, as close to the Old Town as possibe. On previous trips to Budapest and Prague we have been fortunate to stay in good value apartments. However, there do not seem to be many in Tallinn. Could anybody please help?
Also, we would like to visit Helsinki for a day trip. Can anybody recommend the best ferry company that combines value, speed and proximity to the major attractions in Helsinki?
Many thanks

From Tallinn to St. Petersburg and back Posted: Thu February 10, 2005 01:21 PM UTC
This April I'm going to travel from Tallinn to St. Petersburg, and now I'm wondering about the different options. I did find out about buses going to St. Petersburg, but I wonder it I should make any reservations to ensure having a place. Any information on useful websites? And what about the other direction, from St. Petersburg to Tallinn? And suppose I would like to catch a boat from Tallin to St. Petersburg, would that be possible at a reasonable price? And how long would that take? As far as I can tell, I have the impression that no ferries make their way to SPB at that time of the year (first half of April) Loads of other questions, but I'll stop for now, hope to hear anything soon ! Thanks in advance !

30+ nightlife in Tallinn Posted: Wed February 9, 2005 08:48 PM UTC
Hey guys,
I'll be visiting Tallinn for the third time in two weeks time and would like to get some hints on where to go for good fun (NO adult stuff, plz). Last time we went to Places like Scotland Yard and some irish bar just next to McD and a guitar place in an alley close by.
Have you got any good suggestions for our very heterogenous gang of 8 guys, aged 32 to just over 60?
The younger would probably want to get some dancing done and not just drink...while the elder prefer bar/pub-like places. Are there any large or small palces that are kidna combined?
All suggestions are gladly received! /Roger

Tallinn or Riga... Posted: Sat January 22, 2005 02:56 AM UTC
We are 2 single guys in our 30s planning to visit St Petersburg in August. We would like to visit either Tallinn or Riga. Which would you recommend? We have been to Prague and Budapest, so we would like to see something different.
We like architecture, historical sights and good, Western-style nightlife.
Thanks.

VT meetup? Posted: Fri January 21, 2005 12:17 PM UTC
Tere,
I am taking my mother to Talllinn for her birthday next weekend. We will have a whirlwind 48hours but I always enjoy meeting locals, expats or other visitors who can give more insight into a place than any guidebook. So if you have some short freetime next weekend maybe we could meet in Café Anglais for a hot chocolate or in another place? In exchange I can give you info about Ireland/France (my home) or China, Laos, Vietnam, Pakistan, Cambodia, Thailand, Iran, Lebanon, Syria, Greece, Turkey, Italy, Spain, South Africa, Morocco, and my most recent holiday MALI

Did we do good? Posted: Mon January 17, 2005 12:58 PM UTC
Hi,
I've just booked a break for my girlfriend and myself and based ourselves at Hotel Tatari 53 between the 19th and 22nd March.
Does this hotel come recommended and is it convenient for the Old Town.
Also what weather should we expect and are we wise to consider day trips? Helsinki is one we quite fancy!
Cheers

Tallinn here we come!!! Posted: Tue January 4, 2005 06:11 PM UTC
I am bringing a group of guys over to Tallinn in April for a party....But, we are hopefully past the 'drink until oblivion' stage of life and want a 'cooler', more interesting time.....we are all aged between 30-35 and want to party hard, but also do some interesting stuff during the day.....
Can someone recommend some clubs/bars where we will be welcome and will have a really good time?
Also some good ideas for things to do during the day, like quad - biking, shooting etc.....?
Also what should we expect weather wise in late April?
Thanks, Andrew

Looking for cheap accomondation!! 14.1-16.1.2005 Posted: Sat January 1, 2005 06:04 PM UTC
My friend and I are heading for Tallinn in mid january:) But since this was quite an impulsive decision, we don´t have that much information about Tallinn. First of all, we need a cheap place to stay. Only requirements are clean sheets and a nearby toilet and shower, preferably close to the nightlife/center of the city.
We intend to check out what the city has to offer both during daylight AND after the sun has gone down. So here comes my second question, where to head at night? Requirements are as follows: Hiphop/R´nB music, possibly mixed with something else. I´m certainly not a fan of techno! A dancefloor is a must, later on. But one can always start the evening elsewere.
If there are people with the same intentions as we, or locals that can show us around, feel free to contact us;)

Hi,
I have only two days (one night) to spend in Tallinn with my girlfriend. Are there any special things to do at this time of the year (Dec 27)? Any 'romantic' experience to recommend?
I'll be more than happy to hear any recommendation about the day/night life there.
Thx Julien

New Year celebrations in Tallinn Posted: Wed December 15, 2004 01:10 AM UTC
Hi,
We're spending New Year in Tallinn, and wanted to know what goes on there? Is there a central point (like London's Trafalgar Square) where everyone gathers to celebrate the New Year? We had a fantastic New Year in Prague a few years ago, and would like to be able to spend it in Tallinn the way the locals do.
Any hints / tips would be fantastic.
Thanks.
Kevin.
