Buss from Riga to Tallin Posted: Thu July 30, 2009 04:36 PM UTC
I am coming to Riga in September, and I'm planning to take a buss to Tallin.
Should I book the buss ticket in advance? Or is it okay to get it when I come to Riga? Is it cheaper to book on line or while in Riga?

Renting a car for 12 days in Riga Posted: Mon June 22, 2009 02:46 AM UTC
Has anyone rented a car in Riga for touring? It dones not matter if the car is new. We want to rent a cheap reliable car with a/c. It would save us much time if we found out from someone who rented one in Riga and was satisfied. We will only be using the car in the three Baltic States.
Thank you in advance.
We did find this company with used cars and I think insurance is coverd as well. Have you heard of it?

The best of Latvia (nature)... Posted: Sun June 7, 2009 08:18 PM UTC
The best of Latvia (nature)...
I am planning a 2 week Latvia trip focusing on pristine nature, and the great outdoors. If you know of any places off the beaten track (especially since I am going in summer, and I don't want to go to touristy places, especially tourist traps, rather quiet, untouched natural areas of Latvia, and Estonia (but that's another thread). Anyways, if you have visited Latvia, and are fond of nature, photography, and hiking, please help me. Thanks.
WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR:
1) memorable/dramatic scenery, landscape photography, or specifically where to find the best (viewpoints, vistas, natural views, panoramas, etc..)
2) also looking for the unique outdoors, and other amazing, breathtaking views?
WHAT I'VE FOUND SO FAR:
-Talsi, Lake Usma, Moricsala reserve (camping), Kolkasrags (Cape Kolka)
-Sigualda, Gauja National Park (but I am afraid it will be really touristy here)
-Latgale Upland (I'm not sure what's here or if it's all that great)?
Latvia food (required editing):
Ķimeņu siers, pickled mushroom, Borscht, Biezpien maizītes, Pīrāgi, Sklandu rauši, (Skaba Putra), Rasols, Biesu zupa,Siļķe ar biezpienu

2nd hand clothing store in Riga? Posted: Sun June 7, 2009 04:11 PM UTC
2nd hand clothing store in Riga?
I am looking for a 2nd hand clothing store in Latvia? Is there such a thing? In North America, and Europe it's kind of popular, with chain stores like Value Village, and they go by the name of Thrift shops, or 2nd hand shops. Usually, a pair of good quality, laundered pants sells for about 2 or 3 euros. Nicer shirts for 4 or 5 euros. Usually, there is nothing over 20 euros in the store.
Can I find this here?
Thanks

Does anyone know what's going on in Riga from 17th of June to 21st of June? Do people celebrate Midsummer there at that point of time and if they do how does it show? Is there something special going on or is the city completely empty?

Bookshops in Riga Posted: Thu February 19, 2009 05:36 AM UTC
Hello,
In june I'll be in Riga for a short citytrip and as I am a crazy bookcollector, I'd like to find out some addresses for secondhand bookshops in the city. I am desperately looking for 4 translations from the nineties of 4 detective novels by the American Raymond Chandler (Sieviete ezera - Nevadas baze - Šantaža - Karstais vejš)
Maybe also an open air flea market?
Can't find these books on the Internet, so I have to come to Latvia myself...
Thanks very much in advance,
chris from Belgium

Bobsledding Posted: Mon February 16, 2009 10:15 PM UTC
Hi,
Myself and a couple of friends are heading to riga for a few days this weekend and we heard that you can go bobsledding somewhere near riga. Any body got any info on this.
Where exactly is the track and how do we get there?
Do we have to book it beforehand and if so how do we book it?
How much does it cost?
Does it run at this time of the year?
Thanks in advance.

Friend's weekend in Riga in February Posted: Wed January 7, 2009 08:37 AM UTC
We are two couples who are considering going to Riga for a long weekend in mid February. We don't have any plans in particular, just having a good time.
1. How's the weather then?
2. Can anyone recommend us a nice apartment (including cleaning) or hotel at a reasonable price/standard? I'm thinking in the area of 50-80 euros/night per couple, but I don't know the price level of accomodation there. Central (close to places to eat, drink and shop and look at some sights we should feel obligated to see, that is) and 4 stars would be a clue.
Any help is highly appreciated :-)

Visiting Riga in Jannuary Posted: Sat November 29, 2008 07:32 PM UTC
I don't know if it is a good idea, considering the snow, the temperature, and that I have never been there before. I am planning to spend one weekend in Riga in my way back from Tallin (I will spend a week there for work). So I don't know if I will end up seeing the city only from the window of the hotel or if even with the snow it is visitable.
I have no experience with the scenario city + a lot of snow, so I really don't know what to expect. :D
Thanks!
