Fat Margaret Posted: Mon October 12, 2009 05:37 AM UTC
Why is the Maritime Museum called Fat Margaret? Are there amusing comics in the museum ? Can you send any English information about the specifics of the museum... it was closed the one day we had in Tallinn.. Thankyou so much.

My husband and I would like to rent a car and drive through Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, and just stop at hotels or bed and breakfasts along the way. Due to work, we only have about 8 days, will this be enough time? How far is everything? Thanks!
I am looking for a shop selling second hand clothing in Tallin, and other cities in Estonia. These shops are often called thrift shops, or second hand shops. They sell clothes for 2, or 3 euro, good clothes, just 2nd hand. If you know the name of these shops in Estonia, or specific addresses where to find them, please let me know. Thanks
hi, we are looking for hostel/hotel(not very expensive but quite comfortable) for a couple of nights in the middle of July . what can we see in Tallinn? any recommendations?
PS we are looking after professional/semi-professional(a wedding specialization) photographer in the 3-rd October too!
We usually travel by car in Canada so this would not be an issue here . . . what do we do about food when travelling from Tallinn to St. Petersbug by bus. Do we take food on the bus and eat it there or does the bus stop quite often.
I am planning to travel to Estonia and the other two baltics this summer for one month. I just heardd that the costs got fastly rised after EU membership there.
Could you please write me some sample costs in Estonia in Euros please?

A question to our Estonian members... I'm going to Estonia in September and would like to buy some CDs there for my collection of what I call "off the beaten path music". Not looking for traditional folk music but contemporary pop/rock/jazz by Estonian bands sung in Estonian.
However, to buy CDs one needs to know some names and which fit one's taste. I have already done a little research but I'd be grateful for some recommendations for good Estonian singers or bands so that I can look them up on, for example, YouTube and check if I like their style.
My musical taste? I like softer pop and rock, folk rock, jazz - a bit harder guitar rock is all right but no heavy metal. Important to me: a voice with some training, singing technique and volume, I cannot stand those (usually female) half-speaking voicies where you hear more hot air and breathing than actual sound. No techno, hip hop, rap and all that stuff.
I won't understand a word of the lyrics but please nothing on violence / fascism / obscenities. I have to trust you about this;-)
I'm grateful for any hint, and even more if you give me a link where I can listen to a sample of the singer's or band's music online. I'll then make my "shopping list" to take with me and see what I get hold of.
Second question: Where can I find a well-assorted CD shop in Tallinn or Tartu?
I am planning a 2 week Estonia trip, after a 2 week Latvia trip this summer. I want to focus on pristine nature, and the great outdoors. If you know of any places off the beaten track (especially since I am going in summer, and I don't want to go to touristy places, especially tourist traps, rather quiet, untouched natural areas of Estonia. Anyways, if you live in Estonia, and are fond of nature, photography, and hiking, please help me. Thanks.
WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR:
1) memorable/dramatic scenery, landscape photography, or specifically where to find the best (viewpoints, vistas, natural views, panoramas, etc..)
2) also looking for the unique outdoors, and other amazing, breathtaking views?
WHAT I'VE FOUND SO FAR:
-Tartu, Elva Vitipalu Lake, Võrtsjärv Lake (northern or western shore), Karula National Park, Haanja National Park (access from Otepää)
-Parmu, Soomaa National Park , Matsalu National Park
-Saaremaa, Angla windmills, Kuressaare, Vilsandi National Park
-Hiiumaa island (ferry from Haapsalu), Sääre Tirp (Kaasari)
We are arriving in Tallinn in July and want to spend 2 days in Tallinn and then visit Riga, Vilnius, and Warsaw. Are there regular trains/buses among these major cities? We are a family of 4. No young kids. Any tips/suggestion is greatly appreciated.
Lahemaa Park Posted: Mon May 11, 2009 07:36 AM UTC
Hi, we would like to see Lahemaa National Park while we are visiting Tallinn. Would you please tell me if there is a public bus from Tallinn old city to the park? Any suggestions?
What is the quickest way for a youth to get from Tallinn airport, arriving on an international flight at 7:20pm, to Parnu City? Student must be in Parnu opera theatre by 10pm same day. Date in question is June 1st, 2009.
Are there buses that leave directly from Tallinn airport to go to the Parnu airport or a bus station in Parnu? Would catching such a bus be possible, time wise, as the youth will have to go through Customs at the airport?
How much would a taxi cost to go that distance - from Tallinn airport to Parnu theatre? What companies would be best for this?
Is the drive relatively uncomplicated if the best option is to rent a car at the airport and drive to Parnu?
Hi, I am traveling alone to Estonia in July and I will be getting currency from my bank in the US before I go. What dominations should I take? I ask because sometimes banks and hotels in different countries give tourists their local currency in large dominations and then it is difficult to exchange in shops, resturants ,etc. I am a budget tourist and don't spend a lot at one time. So: the notes come in 2's, 5's 10, 25. 50, 100 and 500 Kr notes. My hotel is already paid for so I don't need money for that. Just for food, transport, etc, for 11 days in Tallin. What dominations can I safey get and not have people tell me it is difficult to exchange. On the other hand, I don't want to be carrying a ton of small notes. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Hello all
I saw a pic a few years back of a statue which i think was in Tallinn. It was a larger than life figure of a man sitting down with his knees up and resting his cheek into his hand. I think it's in a park somewhere in the city.
Sorry for the very poor description...
Hope someone knows the statue i'm on about. It might be some sort of modern art display. It mightn't even be in Tallinn at all! :)
Thanks everyone
DG
Hello all
I'm visiting Tallinn soon and i wanted to ask about something which has been controversial in Tallinn's recent history.
'The Unknown Soldier', the statue of the Soviet soldier which was moved from the city centre to a new location which caused the complaints from Russia amongst other things... Is it possible to see the statue now in its new location? And where is that new location? Does the statue still have a police guard? (I'm not 100% this is the case, just something i read on the net)
I know this is a controversial choice but i'm very interested in history, thus i would like to know if anyone can recommend any other memorials/monuments or landmarks which are related to the 2 world wars. Of course i will be visiting the KGB museum too while i am there.
Thanks everyone
DG
I'll be in Tallinn for 4-5 days in July and am travelling with a young baby. She's too young to sleep in a normal bed, so I'm looking for a place to stay that has a baby cot. Seems quite tricky to find these places on the internet... I'm actually looking for an apartment or house rather than a hotel... Self-contained is what I'm after.
Could anyone give me some tips as to where to start looking?
Many thanks!
Hello, I am a Canadian citizen of Estonian decent who will be travelling to Estonia for the first time this summer for the song festival. I am a package with Astellaria travel agency, and want to make sure they are reliable.
Has anyone ever hear of Astellaria and have anything to say about them, good or bad?
I'm wondering if anyone has been to Tallinn for research at Tallinn University/Library. If so, is it easy to find out how everything works if you don't speak Estonian and is there English speaking staff that helps you with e.g. locating books etc.?
Hello - myself and two girlfiends are coming to Tallinn next weekend and I was wondering if anyone can recommend any bars, clubs we can go to. We like decent music (we are all in our 30's) and nowhere full of stag parties. Just somewhere where we can have a drink and mix with the locals.
Also can anyone recommend decent restaurants, not touristy - just good Estonian food? I've been to Tallinn before a couple of years ago so sort of know my way around. Is it really really cold aswell?!!
Look forward to hearing from someone. Thanks.

We will be in Tallinn for one day...via cruise ship. I understand Euros are accepted in some shops. Please let me know if this is true or false. Thanks.
I have just read that Australians aged beteen 18 and 30 are eligible to work in Estonia for up to 12 months.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Can I get a working Visa upon arrival at the border? Or do I need to pre-arrange it? And if so, do you know where? I've trawled through the Estonian government's website but can't find the answers I'm looking for.
I'm certainly hoping there isn't a requirement of filing the paperwork in Australia, as I have heard for out countries in which Australians can work.
I am spending 4 days in Estonia in July this year with my wife and baby. I will be spending at least 1, maybe 2 days in Tallinn, but I'm quite interested to see another part of Estonia as well. I've been reading travel brochures and travel books on Estonia and it seems to me that every region has its special places to visit, and its own charm. So I can't decide what to do.
Tartu is a bit too far to drive (after all, we don't have lots of time), so I was thinking maybe the south - towards Pärnu or maybe stay in the north and drive along the coast...
Are there any suggestions of what would be nicest to do in summer in Estonia?
