Budapest guestbook posting on Godollo webpage
Posted: Sun April 20, 2008 08:47 PM UTC
my wife and I visited Budapest in March 2008, and went on an enjoyable organised tour to Godollo Castle, and wished it could have been longer than 2 hours. However, on returning to UK, I found the Godollo internet Guestbook, and made what we thought was a complimentary entry saying how much we enjoyed our visit. Although the enry was in English, and all other entries were in the Hungarian language, our posting was shown for about 3 days on the page, and then guess what! our entry was deleted, no explanation given. could this be Hungarian bias, or just being deliberately "blanked out". Any sensible answers please. Poshsussex.

Budapest Location?
Posted: Thu April 17, 2008 04:26 PM UTC
hi,

I'm pretty new to this but here it goes...

I'm planning to go to Budapest at the start of december 2008 with a few friends. I'm a student, so of course, a budget hotel would be brilliant. Recently i went to Berlin and stayed in the Friedrichshain/Prenzlauerberg/Kreuzberg area and found it just to my liking. Are there such places in Budapest? Thanks in advance :)

Budapest Orangeways Buses
Posted: Thu April 17, 2008 12:24 PM UTC
Does anyone have any experience of this company? Are they reliable?

I ask because I will be in Belgrade next month on a Friday for a meeting, but my flight home is from Budapest the next morning (10 am). I have found an overnight bus that is due to arrive in Budapest at 5am - do you think I will be safe getting this bus, or is there a chance of long delays/cancellations etc?

I know that there are airport shuttle buses from Belgrade to Budapest, however I have a friend in Budapest and if I get the regular Orangeways service we were planning to meet for breakfast in the city before she would take me to the airport for my departure.

Budapest Airport Terminal 1 and 2 to the city centre by public transport
Posted: Mon April 14, 2008 08:34 PM UTC
Hello all,

I have already been to Budapest twice and from these trips I remember that there are different buses serving the airport terminals from thr Metro terminus Kobanya Kispest.

The Repeter bus serves terminals 2A and 2B, whereas bus #93 serves the Terminal 1.

Is this still like this? I have heard some rumours that there is now only one bus serving both terminals.

Where do I get the latest timetables of these buses? The reason why I am asking is that my friend and I are leaving Budapest from the different terminals.

Any help is much appreciated

Budapest The Good, the bad and the ugly
Posted: Mon April 7, 2008 11:20 PM UTC
What are the bad districts in Budapest to be avoided. Are there any unsafe areas?

Can you please tell me the worse ones, even if you think that all of them are OK.

Also, which are the good districts?

What is district xiii like at night?

If you are there for one or two nights it is difficult to get a feel for the place so an experts or locals opinion would be great.

Hi
We are planning our trip to Central Europe . Part of our plan is to travel from Budapest to Sarajevo and then on to Croatia. I'm thinking the train is the best option . So far it looks like it would be about 12 hours to Sarajevo . Would travelling to Croatioa be a better option giving us better connections . We will be flying back via Vienna. Thanks

Budapest Best place to stay and to eat and drink
Posted: Wed March 26, 2008 11:47 PM UTC
Hi,

Me and a friend are going to Budapest for 4 or 5 days in June and we were wondering which area should we stay in and what restaurants, bars and discos do you recommend?

We don't want tourist places, we rather mingle with the locals and enjoy the local culture and gastronomy.

Thanks in advance.

Budapest Best Places For Going Out In The Evening
Posted: Wed March 26, 2008 12:24 PM UTC
Hi there,

My girlfriend and I are in Budapest for 3 nights from Saturday to Tuesday and were wondering where the best places would be to go out for a few drinks and for food on the three nights (and in particular the Saturday and Sunday nights).

Not really looking for clubs or anything as just the two of us but good bar suggestions and the best area for a bit of nightlife would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Budapest Tourist Travelcards
Posted: Wed March 26, 2008 12:22 AM UTC
I notice that a lot of people suggest buying the 3-day travelcard (as opposed to the Budapest card) but no-one seems to suggest buying the 7 day pass.

The Bkv site states

7-day travelcard HUF 4000

For unlimited number of trips on the marked day and 6 consecutive days from 00.00 to 24.00. It is issued to the name of the holder and valid together with a personal identifying document with a photo.

My questions are

1) Is this card available to tourists?
2) Would I have to use my passport as an identity document or are other documents acceptable (UK photo driving licence, work photo ID, photocopy of passport etc)
3) If the ticket is suitable for my needs, what should I ask for (in Hungarian) to buy 2 tickets?

Thanks in advance.....

Budapest Visa for Ukraine
Posted: Sat March 22, 2008 01:47 PM UTC
Hi there, I wanted to know if you anyone knew how to apply for a visa for Ukraine in Budapest. I also wanted to know what it would cost and how long it takes (Australian passport holder). Also what would be the cheapest and best option to get from Budapest to Kiev? Is there a cheap airline instead of taking a long train ride? Has anyone been to L'viv? Is it worth visiting?

thanking you

I'm trying to find an email or, better still, telephone number of the Green Bridge Guest House and Apartments, but the only links that I see are the hostelbookers.com page which only has the address of this hostel.
I'd be forever grateful if anyone can let me know this hostel's contact details. Thanks!

Budapest Getting married in Budapest
Posted: Thu March 13, 2008 02:11 PM UTC
We are a couple from Hong Kong. We plan to get married in Budapest when we travel to Hungary in May. We will return to Hong Kong afterward. We have contacted the Embassy of Hungary here in HK and the Embassy of China in Budapest but still cannot be sure if it is possible to do the regisration there.
Chinese Embassy has no special requirement for us as the registration should be done in a local registry office (instead of by them as we are from Hong Kong and do not tend to live in Budapest).
Hungary embassy told us that we only need a certificate of no impediment. We do not have such thing but a certificate of single status. The official verbally said it is okay (but I sense that there is incertainty...). The paper needed to be translated into Hungarian and get notary. We also need to find someone in Budapest to make appointment with the registry office and the event be conducted in English. All these casus a lot but we will be happy to do go through it if our purpose can be met.
But I have heard that it is still quite bureaucratic in the country and any slight overlooking will result in nothing and great disappointment.
Will anyone here can supplement any information to us, ie paper required, how to book a marriage registration event etc? Applying for documents and get the translation/notary take time so we have little time. Thanks a lot.
