200 Euros for two weeks of double room in Budapest,do you think that is true? Posted: Fri August 14, 2009 06:58 AM UTC
Hi
I am searching for guest house in Budapest for short term staying as a visitor, and I just saw this link:
http://housing.justlanded.com/en/Hungary_Budapest/Holiday-Rentals_Apartments/1#:10-Euro-day-you-can-t-miss-it
That looks a really good deal, as the other same places are 40 Euros/day as I compared. But I am concerned why it is so cheap.Do you think that could be safe to live in such a guesthouse?
Thanks!

Ferihegy to Budapest? Posted: Mon August 10, 2009 10:19 AM UTC
Hi all!=)
I read all the forum tips and replies concerning the topic but since now i never had the chance to read about the train way to get to the city but only taxi or compination of bus and metro.
On the site of the airport though,i found the following text :
''By train
transport
Since July of 2007 passengers can easily reach Ferihegy Terminal 1 from the Western Railway Station in Budapest. On weekdays 51 and at weekends 38 trains ease the travelling from the city center to the airport within less than half an hour for 300 HUF. There are 60 trains on weekdays and 45 at weekends from the airport to the city center.
Arriving travellers can buy their tickets at Tourinform at Terminal 1 from 09.00 to 22.00 or at platform B at the railway station from the ticket vending mashine.
The two platforms of the railwaystation are connected to the Airport Terminal with a pedestrian footbridge equipped with lifts above the clearway. A short pedestrian path of just 200 meters takes the passengers from the terminal to the railway station.
Travellers who would like to get to 2A or 2B terminals can travel by bus 200E from there.
You can find the train schedule at the web site of MÁV-START, the hungarian railway company.''
Does anyone tried that?is it working?
thanx in advance!;)

Budapest to Sofia by train. Posted: Wed August 5, 2009 07:42 PM UTC
Hello,
Has anyone here taken the train from Budapest to Sofia ?
I've tried looking at the railway schedule but find it a bit confusing.
How long is the journey, and is there an early morning train from Budapest or else an overnight one ? I'm trying to maximise my time in both cities.
I was also unsure of the price of a return ticket (BUD-SOF-BUD). Any information in this regard would be much appreciated.
Was the journey safe and comfortable ? Would you recommend a private compartment ?
I'm assuming that the departure station in Budapest would be Keleti East. Is this correct ?
Thank you for any info.

Money exchange Posted: Tue July 14, 2009 03:55 AM UTC
Hi, I will visit Budapest by the end of July. I will travel there by bus from Vienna. I will arrive at the Keleti Station. Once I arrived, I need to change some local currency. Are there any banks in the station? Should I go to the banks to do that in order to have a low commission or a better rate? What about in town, should I exchange my money in banks? Thanks a lot for your help.

Hostel/guesthouse with private bathroom? Posted: Thu June 25, 2009 02:29 PM UTC
My boyfriend and I are spending two nights in Budapest at the beginning of August, and would prefer a hostel/guesthouse to a hotel, because the environment's usually so much more fun, but I'm not having much luck finding one with a room with its own bathroom. Anyone know of anything like that?

Bus or Train from Vienna to Budapest Posted: Wed June 24, 2009 06:39 AM UTC
Hi, I will travel from Vienna to Budapest in July. I am choosing between Eurolines or train. I know that there is a 7:00a.m. bus, but I can't read the language, I don't know how much it is. For train I saw that there is a train at 08:25a.m. (Euronight, no need to change).
Does anyone know the fare for taking the bus and the fare of the train I posted?
IS the bus more convenient for my lugagges?
Thanks for your reply.

scams in restaurants Posted: Tue June 16, 2009 11:41 PM UTC
OK so been reading quite a lot about scams in restaurants of various sorts generally involving being charged more than on original menu - different menu being substituted in when paying, prices being claimed (for meat) to have been for 100 g and minimum portion being 400g etc.
so what's the best way of avoiding being ripped off and if it did happen what's the best way to deal with it ?
also is it, like here in UK, purely a civil matter where threats from restaurateur to call police would be meaningless as they'd not be interested ?
thanks in advance

2) am I right in thinking neither of these have to be validated in the way single tickets do ?

Rail Budapest to Prague Posted: Sun June 7, 2009 07:35 PM UTC
Advice? Pitfalls? Day train or sleeper? How long is the trip? Do the trains have food available or should one take one's own?
We're thinking about a sleeper. Has anyone done this trip in a sleeper and what was it like? Were you continually awoken by demands for passports? Was there food available?
