Budapest Hostel/guesthouse with private bathroom?
Posted: Thu June 25, 2009 01:29 PM UTC
My boyfriend and I are spending two nights in Budapest at the beginning of August, and would prefer a hostel/guesthouse to a hotel, because the environment's usually so much more fun, but I'm not having much luck finding one with a room with its own bathroom. Anyone know of anything like that?

Budapest Bus or Train from Vienna to Budapest
Posted: Wed June 24, 2009 05:39 AM UTC
Hi, I will travel from Vienna to Budapest in July. I am choosing between Eurolines or train. I know that there is a 7:00a.m. bus, but I can't read the language, I don't know how much it is. For train I saw that there is a train at 08:25a.m. (Euronight, no need to change).

Does anyone know the fare for taking the bus and the fare of the train I posted?

IS the bus more convenient for my lugagges?

Thanks for your reply.

Budapest scams in restaurants
Posted: Tue June 16, 2009 10:41 PM UTC
OK so been reading quite a lot about scams in restaurants of various sorts generally involving being charged more than on original menu - different menu being substituted in when paying, prices being claimed (for meat) to have been for 100 g and minimum portion being 400g etc.

so what's the best way of avoiding being ripped off and if it did happen what's the best way to deal with it ?

also is it, like here in UK, purely a civil matter where threats from restaurateur to call police would be meaningless as they'd not be interested ?

thanks in advance

2 questions:

1) can we get them at the airport or if not where is the nearest fo the Marriott hotel we can get them

2) am I right in thinking neither of these have to be validated in the way single tickets do ?

Budapest Rail Budapest to Prague
Posted: Sun June 7, 2009 06:35 PM UTC
Advice? Pitfalls? Day train or sleeper? How long is the trip? Do the trains have food available or should one take one's own?

We're thinking about a sleeper. Has anyone done this trip in a sleeper and what was it like? Were you continually awoken by demands for passports? Was there food available?

Budapest Visiting Budapest.
Posted: Sun June 7, 2009 11:58 AM UTC
Hi!While we are in Budapest, would like to take trips of short durations outside Budapest.
I have in the Budapest forum read about trips to Nagymaros-Visegrad or Zebegeny. As I understand this would be train journey from Nuygati. What are these places famous for,and how long would the journey take each way.
Also I have read about a boat excursion to the Danube Bend. How long is this excursion and where do we get the boat from.
Other than these what places can you recommend.
Will appreciate your suggestions.
Many thanks,
Jayarep.

Budapest Day Trip to Balaton Lake from Budapest
Posted: Sun May 31, 2009 05:54 PM UTC
We are going to spend a few days in Budapest and would like to make a day trip to Balaton Lake. Is the trip short enough to make it worthwhile? Would it be advisable to rent a car or is bus or train transportation a reasonable alternative? What are the approximate rates for renting a car for a day?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Budapest taxi's buses or rent a car - how safe is it?
Posted: Sun May 31, 2009 04:06 PM UTC
I would like to visit Obudai temeto off Bechi utca and Arany hegy.

On google map this looks rather outside of the city. I was wondering if you could offer some info on how easy this area is to access by public transportation or taxi? Also, how safe is it for a small group of obvious foreigners?

Budapest Place to be on St. Stephen's day.
Posted: Sun May 31, 2009 03:52 PM UTC
Hi,

We will be in Budapest on Aug 20, 2009. I am looking for a good suggestion for a restaurant, bistro where we could make reservations for dinner and watch the fireworks!

Alternately a good public place - fisherman's wharf? that is safe, easy access and not hugely packed but offers a good photo locations.

We will be traveling with 2 kids, and while I realize that this is a major holiday and crowds are a given, I was wondering if there was someplace a little bit off the beaten path.

Budapest Paying with credit card
Posted: Tue May 26, 2009 12:57 PM UTC
Hello!

We are interested in buying 1 Day Travel Card (1500 HUF). Is it possible to pay it by credit card at underground machines?

We will arrive at Nepliget bus station. Could we buy that card in this station paying by credit card?

The problem is we are going to stay only 7 hours at Budapest, so we prefer to pay all with credit card on order nor to change money.

On a website I read a raving review for a restaurant in Budapest. It was the

"Bangla Büfé,
Akácfa utca behind the District VII market hall"

Does this restaurant still exist, and if yes, what is the exact address? Street and Number?

Budapest Things to see and do in Budapest
Posted: Tue May 19, 2009 09:42 AM UTC
I will be visiting Budapest at the end of June for a week. As I am visiting Budapest for the first time, I would appreciate any suggestions regarding things to see and do. Also, suggestions regarding restaurants/cafes and shopping would be most welcome. I understand that Budapest is a relatively inexpensive city. One other question: are there buses to Balaton Lake and is it possible to leave in the morning and return in the evening and still have enought time to enjoy the lake area?
