Prague Traveling with a 2.5 year old daughter
Posted: Fri May 16, 2008 08:00 PM UTC
Hi,

We are visiting Prague from Dresden for 2 days.

Are there organized trips for a day or hop on-off buses to see the main attractions?

My daughter is allergic to peanut, cashew and pistachio. How familiar are restaurants staff about allergies? We are vegans and plan to have simple pasta or sandwich.

Is Soy milk available in supermarkets?

What is a good place to buy good wooden toys and local crafts?

Prague Prague to Berlin to Dusseldorf?
Posted: Fri May 16, 2008 03:59 PM UTC
I will be in Prague for a few days and have to go to Dusseldorf. As I've been to much of mid/southern Germany, I thought it might be nice to go to Berlin for a day. Is this doable/logical?

If so, what is the best way to get from Prague to Berlin & how long does it take?

Does passport control ask for proof of insurance? Is there a "standarized"
card indicating amount and type of insurance required.

Prague More questions
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 11:06 AM UTC
I posted earlier about splitting time between Prague & Budapest. I am thinking of doing 4 days in PRG, then a day or two in Cesky Krumlov, then a day in Bratislava and the last 4 in BUD. Is it better to take a train or bus from town to town? Is one easier and/or cheaper than the other? How far is it between CK and Bratislava? Is it possible to travel fairly early in the morning, see the castle and a little more in Bratislava and continue on to BUD the same day to arrive in the evening? If you have been to all 4 towns can you suggest how to split 11 days (12 counting the day I fly out) among them? Thanks.

Prague watching Rangers in UEFA cup final in Prague
Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 11:47 AM UTC
Hi

I was wondering where would be the best place to watch Rangers in the UEFA cup final this Wednesday. I am not a Rangers supporter but will most probably be cheering them on anyway as they are the sole British representatives. Are there any Scottish bars in Prague? I would guess that an Irish bar would probably not be the most salubrious venue for this?

Gary.

Prague Month long rental
Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 12:26 AM UTC
This is not the typical "in prague for 2 days, where to stay". I've tried Craigslist and gotten scam emails and apartment searches online only found expensive places for wealthy expats it seems...

There are 3-4 of us, Medical students, working at a hospital in Prague for the month of July. We need a place somewhat near (how 'near' is up for debate) central Praha, at least convenient to a Metro stop. I'd like washer and dryer, other than that, amenities can be basic.

I thought I'd post here, see if anyone has a place to offer, or knows of a friend, or sublet, or something!
Y'all can post here I suppose, although emailing 'carsam (at) sgu (dot) com' would be preferable.

All the best,

Hello

We are visiting Prague from June 11th for a few days. On the 11th June Czech's play Portugal in the Euro Football Championships. We are looking at watching the game and wanted to enjoy/experience some local but safe atmosphere.

Can anybody suggest a good place to view the match where we may experience a good night with the locals cheering on the Czech National Team.

Appreciate your help.

Prague Hotel Recommendations
Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 06:10 PM UTC
I know this question has been asked tons but there is too much info too look through. I will be in Prague for about two nights. Never been and not super keen on touristy areas but I am a tourist myself :)

Any, hotels of good value in a recommended area (not too expensive!)? Possibly near some decent nightlife (pubs/bars but not all night clubs) and also transit? I will be taking the train from prague to budapest after two or three days.

A few recommendations would help.

I am considering booking this hotel for 3 nights in December for our visit to Prague and the Christmas market. Trip Advisor rates it highly. Does anyone know this hotel ? It is situated by the Charles Bridge in Mala Strana. Is this is convenient location for walking to the main sites ?

Prague Re: Hotel Anna or Claris Hotel?
Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 01:31 PM UTC
I know they are sister hotels and located within what appears to be a few blocks from each other. While both have the same rates and ammenities, is one more preferable? The Claris seems to have been recently renovated.
Does anybody have any feedback on these hotels? Trip advisor has given both good reviews.

Thanks,

Prague Using credit cards in Prague?
Posted: Sun May 4, 2008 09:50 PM UTC
Hello. I'm going to Prague for 5-6 days in the beginning of june.
Do many shops and restaurants accept credit cards and is it safe? I'm afraid of getting ripped. (I have both Visa and Mastercard)

I've used creditcards in both London and with no problems.

I also have another question: How well do the czech (the ones from Prague) speak english or german?

Prague From Prague to Paris by bus
Posted: Sun May 4, 2008 06:28 PM UTC
After reading most of the tips about transportation from Prague, I figured out that to get to Paris by night train would be too expensive and too much hassle to change all these trains in the middle of the night. Did anybody try to use Student Bus that leaves Prague at 23:30 and arrives at 5:50 in Paris? Do we need to make ticket reservation on-line? The word "student" makes me worry as in my mind it associates with something cheap and not comfortable. At my age of 40+ these are not my priorities anymore! Any feedback would be much appreciated!

Prague Accommodation Outside Central Prague
Posted: Fri May 2, 2008 10:22 PM UTC
Hi. I wonder if anyone could recommend any reasonable hotels on the outskirts of Prague or even in a town close to Prague.

We'll be travelling to Prague by car, and do not wish to take it into central Prague. Ideally we are looking for a hotel that is about 20 - 30 minutes from central Prague.

I'm probably asking for too much, but it would be good if the hotel was in walking distance (10 minutes or so) of a metro stop or station and in a safe area.

Many thanks

Prague Prague in 1.5 days - what to do?
Posted: Thu May 1, 2008 07:07 PM UTC
Hello VTmates,
I'll be spending only 1.5 days in Prague. I plan to visit Old Town, New Town, Charles Bridge, Prague Castle.

If there's more time, I'm thinking of going to Karlstejn castle - can somebody tell what's the cheapest way to go to Karlstejn from Old Town? How far is this place? Are visitors allowed to go inside the castle?

If you have suggestions on other better places to visit given my limited time, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!!

Prague First time traveling to Prague
Posted: Wed April 30, 2008 05:20 PM UTC
I have many questions about traveling to Prague at the end of July.
Does anyone have any feedback on the Hotel Anna? Is it centrally located and in walking distance to many of the sights? I saw it on-line and it looks charming, and the price was very reasonable. However, I could not find it on venere.com (It is part of Claris Hotel Chain). Should I be wary????

Next, my friend and I will be taking a train from Berlin to Prague. Is there direct rail service and if so, is it cheaper to purchase it on raileurope.com for 111 Euros or DB Bahn website? Will they send the ticket to US free of charge?

How far is Terezin from Prague? Is there a special tour that goes there?

The forum is extremely helpful in planning my trip and I thank you in advance for answering my
questions!
