Crete Island Accomodation: Chania and plus Iraklion?
Posted: Sun November 25, 2007 04:17 PM UTC
We are planning to arrive H/Iraklion by boat from Santorini (mid-May). Then take a bus to base in Chania for 4 nights (thanks to everyone's suggestion). At the end, we will fly to ATH from Chania.

However, we would love to visit both Knosos and Iraklion in the east (in addition to Chania and Samaria Gorge etc at the west). With the distance between them and Chania (120km? We do NOT plan to rent a car), would it be a good idea for us to stay in Iraklion for the first 2 nights, then move onto Chania for another 2?

Or, if we still base at Chania, is there any fast bus to take to Iraklion/Knosos? What is the frequency of such bus and how long will it take one-way?

Thanks in advance for any tip!

Crete Island Crete in May or June
Posted: Tue November 20, 2007 09:09 AM UTC
We are planning to spend about two weeks in Crete in May or June. My friends who have visited the Island in April said that it was too cold to swim at that time. I am wondering we can swim in the sea around May (I guess June is definitely possible.) One thing is that I am not a big fan of polar bear swimming and really hates swimming in the cold water. What will be the water temperature around the middle or end of May?

Another thing is about accommodation. We want to stay in a studio with a kitchenette and swimming pool private or common use around Chania area. Where can we start our searching? Any good internet website for reservation?

Crete Island How to get from Iraklion Cruise Port to Knossos by Bus
Posted: Mon October 22, 2007 07:28 PM UTC
Where do we catch the bus from the Cruise Port to Knossos? What is the bus number? How long does the bus ride take? How much is the bus ticket?
Since we are only there for a day, what are the other must-see attractions we should not miss.
Thanks for your help

Crete Island Samaria Gorge - when does it close in October?
Posted: Mon October 15, 2007 10:28 AM UTC
Been trying to find this on guidebooks and on websites without success. We are in Crete from Tuesday 23rd October to Tuesday 30th October. Is Samaria gorge still open for walkers? Some of the guidebooks say it closes mid-October.

Thanks in advance.

Crete Island Which is better?
Posted: Mon October 8, 2007 07:08 PM UTC
We want to go to Crete, but can't decide which is better. We have seen offers on Chania and Iraklion. The prices are about the same, Chania is a little cheaper. Can someone recommend one or the other?

Crete Island Far East Crete (Sitia and beyond)
Posted: Sun October 7, 2007 03:37 PM UTC
We are thinking of going to this area of Crete next year, combining it with stays on both Karpathos and Rhodes. We are looking for a fairly quiet place, picturesque and with easy access to a 'free' (i.e. nudist) beach.

If you know of a beach can you recommend accommodation nearby? We are planning on flying in and out of Sitia, so close to that airport please.

Thanks

Crete Island Agios Nikolaos or Elouda
Posted: Fri September 14, 2007 07:08 PM UTC
We will be visiting relatives in Ierapetra and then staying for about 7 days in either Agios Nikolaos or Elouda. We have found quite a few places to stay, but we are not sure which town to stay in. If anyone has suggestions for a nice villa for 4 people with 2 bathrooms, let me know. We would enjoy a Greek owned villa with local charm. Thanks...Maria Taylor

Crete Island Crete & Rethymnon First Timer!!! Any info appreciated ;)
Posted: Mon August 20, 2007 10:47 AM UTC
Hi All,

Planning at very last minute, have bought a travel guide, but unable to find too much info!!

I'm arriving in Crete on Thursday morning, and will be based in Rethymnon for 10 days. Could you kindly advise recommended day trips that we could take?

Also, would like to plan at least a day trip, perhaps overnight in Santorini whilst we're there, could you please post links to the various travel options? Is it a ferry or a flight away?

Also, how's the shopping?

Thanks all

Crete Island Crete - Heraklion - private tours
Posted: Fri August 3, 2007 04:15 PM UTC
Hello, I will be visiting Crete Heraklion in September and was wondering if anyone can recommend an agency that sets up full or half day tours. I am using Spyros in Athens - this is a taxi company that also give you some guidance and drives you around to all the destinations for 8-9 hours. Was wondering if there is something of that sort in Crete. Thank you for your help.
