Hi everyone

I will be in Crete for my honeymoon starting next week. With all the wedding planning, I have been trying my best to try and 'decipher' Crete and all its amazing sights, cities and beaches. I've been reading these boards for hours to no avail. What are the must see sights and cities?

We are staying near Chiana- can anyone PLEASE assist or provide me with a sample or suggesting itinerary? I know this is asking a lot- but I am so overwhelmed with wedding planning that I am frantic trying to do a honeymoon itinerary!

Thanks so much in advance/

Hi !

Apart from Marathon Resort near Athens.... I also have a option of Crete Resort in the month of April 2011..Could anyone pls guide me on Crete location and weather in April.

Village Heights Golf Resort
Ano Hersonissos
Crete, 70014
Greece
28970-29065

1) As per my research this resort is far away from the main hub/town and also the airport. Is this true?
2) Would it be difficult to roam around / sighseeing without hiring a car if we stay in this resort / place
3) This resort claims to have a free shuttle drop n pick up everyday to the main town/market. Would this be feasible or we could get stuck if this shuttle is not available sometimes and can we sightsee, if we take this shuttle everyday ...roam around and again try to catch this shuttle back to resort in the eve...

Thanks a lot

We will be in Crete in late October. We plan to fly to Crete from Athens, spend a few days and then take the hydrofoil to Santorini, spend the day and the night and fly back to Athens from Santorini.

Does this sound like a workable plan? Will it be cold at that time of year? If you have any tips for the most interesting places to see, we would be grateful.

I'm hoping to travel from Ireland to Crete this summer by car. Has anyone any tips? I plan to go from Rosslare to Cherbourg and later take the Anek ferries from Venice to Patras and Pireaus to Chania. All advice gratefully accepted! Thanks!

I know there a many car hire/rental agencies in crete--but before I start looking at all their websites, I just had a general question--is it easy to find automatic transmission cars for hire? Neither my husband and I can drive standard!

Hi,

We visited Lake Kournas last year for a day trip and would like to stay there for a few days this June.

Does anybody know if any of the tavernas at the lake have rooms available?

If they don't, any other suggestions would be most welcome.

Many thanks.

Hi All!

I will be comig to Greece for a short trip with my wife in April end May beginning. We have planned of staying at Crete and doing a day trip to Santorini. First of all, how does this sound? We have made up our mind of doing only these two islands this time around. So is it a good idea to stay in Crete and do a day visit to Santorini or the other way round?

Also it would be great if anyone could let us know any tried and tested place to stay in Crete. We would prefer to be in a quiet place, not necessarily in the middle of a town but probably close to a beach. Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.

Thanks once again to all of you.

Happy travelling!

6 month travel planning route for Portugal, Greece, and Italy

I am trying to organize a travel route for 3 countries over a 6 month period. The three countries are Portugal, Italy, and Greece. The intended days of travel are November1-April30.

Around November 1, I need to decide where the begin. To narrow down the choices (which places are best in which months), you should know I am planning to do a lot of walking, hiking, trekking, landscape photography looking for blue sky, clear weather (visibility), sunshine, and trying to avoid too much rain, or overcast skies, but storms (with lightning and thunder are ok).

During these 6 months I will see everything, it's just a question of when, and how to order the destinations.

Also please note, I want to see the entire country of Portugal, but only most of Italy (from Sicily to Venice, skipping the Italian alps, and Milan), and just areas in southern Greece (Crete, Cyclades, and Peleponnese).

I will travel slowly, and I can already tell it probably makes sense to reserve March, and April for central, and northern Italy (Tuscany, Venice, Liguria, Rome) - these places may be unattractive in the dead of winter, so better see them in springtime..

However, I can't reserve everything for the spring, I have to be somewhere in January, and February as well, so the question is which is better? Portugal, or Southern Greece?

And then November, and December, again which is better? Portugal, or Southern Greece?

Having said all that, where do you think I should go for each month?

Thanks in advance.

Help finding accommodation and with itinerary please

Hi, we are planning on spending 2 weeks in Crete beginning around May 15th. Do you think the weather will be OK for swimming? Also I would like to find a website that lists resorts that offer half board. We are on a budget and as I troll the Internet looking for accommodation pries seem to be all over the place. I would love to find a site that is known to be reliable with good prices. You can email me privately on VT with suggestions if you would like.

Another question we would like to be based in two separate areas. My husband works a hard and wants to lounge around soaking up the Greek sun as well as snorkel. I would like to hit the museums and maybe take some buses to inland villages.

Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Hi
We would love to holiday in Crete this year and we had pencilled in a week towards the end of April.
However, when we went to the travel agent today they said Crete holidays didn't really start til the beginning of May and that before that we might find most places were still shut up for the winter.
Is this true? We don't want to find that we are restricted to eating in the hotel every evening because the local restaurants are closed. We also don't want to hire a car and so might have been on the look out for an excursion or two - having said that we really just want to potter around and enjoy the town in which we stay.
We were particularly interested in going to Paleochora but would be grateful for your suggestions for where best to go in April given the above.
Thanks in advance, we really would appreciate some advice.

Hi Everyone :O)

It's that time of year again where I need some help and advice from you fellow Virtual tourist's.

Has anyone been snorkelling in Crete, if so what region, and any recommendations to hotels near by for this would be fantastic.

Also if you know of other area's in Europe where the snorkelling is good that would be great. Hey, no need to say Egypt as I know it's Amazing there.

Thanks in advance for your help :O)
