whitewater rafting on Zambezie Posted: Tue September 11, 2007 05:51 PM UTC
We are signed up for a one-day whitewater rafting trip on the Zambezie River just below the Falls in late October. We hear it is a class 5 river. In the U.S. that would be much beyond our abilities. Has someone taken this trip and if so can you describe it? Thanks.

Research has indicated that it is the dry season at Vic Falls at the begining of January. Has anyone been to Vic Falls in January? If so, please advise on water flow.
Thanks

Antelope Park Posted: Tue August 21, 2007 02:51 AM UTC
I was wondering if anyone has recently been to Zimbabwe, particluarly Gweru and Antelope Park, and is it as bad as we are reading about in the media? My son is travelling there next month as a volunteer at Antelope Park and there has been some awful stories in the media.

Antelope Park Posted: Fri August 10, 2007 12:05 PM UTC
How do you get from Victoria Falls to the Antelope Park? Are there any companies that will take you in a 4wd or a minibus or something?
Plus is the political situation in Zimbabwe so bad that I should consider not going at all? We will be two females aged 19 and 52, are we likely to be mugged on public transport?

Zimbabwe on our own (without have things sorted in advance) - is it real? Posted: Tue July 24, 2007 12:05 PM UTC
Hello!
I can't imagine if is real to travel through Zimbabwe on our own, without any travel agent and/or have things sorted in advance.
For example, fly to Harare and then take a taxi and go to Mana Pools/Lake Kariba. Then go to Victoria Falls by water or taxi car. Then go to Hwange, then to Bulawayo, then to Harare. Is taxi going between cities common?
Is it real just by taxis and then pay park fees, accommodation on site or is better to have something/all booked in advance? Also isn't better e.g. own private rented car? (i mean roards are good and distances between these points not extremely far)?
Thank you very much for any tip!

Victoria falls from Johannesburg Posted: Sun June 10, 2007 03:40 PM UTC
Hi all!
I’m flying into Johannesburg this augoust and try to make a 2 week trip to Victoria falls and Okavango delta.
would you suggest to book a complete tour from joh or to use public transport to get to the places and then book shorter tours locally?
would that be easy to be done right on the spot, or have to book in advance for this time of the year?
i would very much dream to balance enjoying the places with achieving some kind of budget prices if possible
Any recommendations will be a big big help
thanks - Nikos

Victoria falls....or maybe exploring inca ruins?? Posted: Wed May 30, 2007 01:55 AM UTC
Hi all,
My husband and I are considering taking another trip, this time outside of Europe. We were looking at going to see the Victoria falls in Kenya and I was wondering if anyone had any information on the best way to incorporate an african safari on such a trip. There seems to be the option of exploring Zambia or Zimbabwee outside of the falls. Any recommendations are much appreciated. Even a reliable website would be helpful.
Other than a trip here, we were considering doing the hike up Machu picchu. So suggestions for that are also welcome. Slightly different I know, but it's a big world and there is so little time! Thanks.

I'm somewhat confused - hope someone can help. Which airport should i fly into - Livingstone or Victoria Falls? I'm flying in from Gaborone & spending 2 days in Vic Falls before joining a camping safaris. Also, which airport is nearer to the Falls?
Thanks!

Zimbabwe - Antelope Park - Safety Posted: Sat March 24, 2007 12:49 AM UTC
Hi,
My friend and I are planning an overland tour from Jo'burg to Victoria Falls through Zimbabwe, stopping at Antelope Park, the ruins, and a couple of other tourist attractions. We've been warned that the political situation in Zimbabwe is very strained and we will not be safe as two white females, even though we will be with a tour group. I have alternately heard that its not as bad as the media-hype in the western world makes it out to be.
Has anyone had any recent experience in this part of the country, either traveling alone or as part of a tour? We could theoretically fly from Jo'burg to Vic Falls instead, but one of the main reasons for going to Africa was to visit Antelope Park...

staying on the zimbabwe side of the falls Posted: Mon February 5, 2007 11:45 PM UTC
Hi
My partner and my 16yr old daughter are travelling to Victoria Falls in July this year for 5 days and are staying on the Zimbabwe side of the falls at the Rainbow Hotel. We would like to here from anyone who has stayed her re- safety etc and also how safe it is to stay on the Zimbabwe side of the falls. We have booked several activities through our travel agent as advised and are including a lion walk, elephant back safari, jet boat ride and Zambezie river cruise. We would like to hear from anyone else who may have done these activities!!!
We are looking forward to our holiday but are concerned how safe it is and also how great the risk is of disease etc malaria ........

Acceptable Currency at Zambezi Sun? Posted: Thu February 1, 2007 08:08 PM UTC
Hi
We are staying at Zambezi Sun for 5 days as part of our honeymoon in June. Can anyway advise what is the preferred currency...read on a few postings US Dollars are preferred. Is this true...or should I get local currency. I assume "plastic" can be used in the resort for booking excursions, but for the more basic things like a few beer/meals etc, wat is the norm? I have been told we MUST pay our 2 way visa in Zimbabwe in US Dollars ( cash )
Also afer a few days relaxation wat are the recommended trips...hear the river rafting is good?? or any close safaris?...anyone stayed there in June to advise on likely temps/rain...think it should be fairly dry...any help would be much appreciated.

Bulawayo information needed!! Posted: Wed December 27, 2006 02:21 PM UTC
Hi,
I am looking for travel info on Bulawayo and I can't find anything!
What I want to know is:
What facilities are at the airport?
How much is a taxi to the centre of town from the airport?
How much is an average journey in a taxi in the city centre?
What is the international and domestic departure tax?
Are their ATMs in the city centre?
Can anyone out there help me?

Travel from Vic falls and Nairobi to Jo'burg Posted: Sun October 22, 2006 02:09 PM UTC
Hi there,
We're going on a jeep tour from Nairobi down to Victoria Falls.
We fly home from Jo'burg and are looking for ideas (i.e. a cheap flight!) of how to firstly get from Jo'burg to Nairobi and then get back to Jo'burg from Victoria Falls.
We're on a budget so keen to avoid the International airlines if possible.
Very excited.
Many thanks in advance,
Rick

It's been awhile since I've visited but I recall taking a bus from Harare to Jo'burg. Can anyone tell me the bus companies that run, estimated cost, time of travel and how I might book something from the states?
And from Jo'burg, what is the best way to travel into Maseru, Lesotho.
Thanks!
