vic falls activites Posted: Sat June 27, 2009 05:24 AM UTC
hello,
we are a group of 10. we will be in Vic Falls (Zim side)from Aug 9-12. I have browsed a lot of websites to pre-book activites and they are all charging more or less the same prices (for ex $90-100 for a 1/2 day rafting). I have heard that it would cost less if one were to book activites there itself. My question is- would we be wasting time looking around for good deals? Would it be risky to wait until we reach to get the popular activities, especially as we are a large group? Is there any hope of finding an operator charging less than the online rates?
Secondly, should one take a 'tour' of the Falls or can one do it by oneself. Is canoeing a good activity as a substitute for Rafting?
Thirdly, has anyone done fishing during Aug in Vic Falls? Do we get a good catch, do they have catch and release policy? Is fishing better here or deep sea fishing in Cape town? (unpredictable weather in CT could be a spoilsport?)
Thnks in advance.

How to get from Victoria Falls to Chobe Posted: Wed May 13, 2009 01:54 AM UTC
I am flying into Victoria Falls, and have to get to Muchenje Lodge in Chobe. My choices are:
1) Go through Zimbabwe customs, see the falls from the ground, get driven to Muchenje.
2) Avoid Zimbabwe customs by staying in transit, take a small plane to Kasane. See the falls from the air, not from the ground, miss the drive through Zimbabwe to the Botswana border.
Anybody have any advice? I wish I had thought to have more time in VF but I didn't and it would be impossible to change that now.

Victoria Falls Restaurant 47 years ago Posted: Thu February 19, 2009 10:15 AM UTC
Back in the 1960's Chippy and Stella Wood used to run the Vistoria Falls Restaurant which was about a mile above the Falls, on the bank of the river, on the Northern Rhodesian (Zambian) side.
I grew up while Mum and Dad ran the Vic Falls Restaurant as well as the Sprayview Restaurant on the other side of the bridge (near the Vic Falls Hotel).
I can't find any references to either of these places now and wondered if there is anyone out there that remembers the restaurants to which I refer.
Please get in touch if you do.

I'm planning on flying into Victoria Falls and get my Visa on arrival. Do I need photos? I have my passport, travel docs, and money, but unsure whether I need the photos. What's required for crossing over into Zambia?
Thanks in advance,

Flying Kruger to Victoria Falls (Livingstone) Posted: Sat January 31, 2009 09:56 PM UTC
Hi there,
I'm planning on visiting Kruger National Park and then travelling to Victoria Falls (Zambian side).
Can anyone advise the best way to get there? So far all I have come up with is flying from Kruger back to Johannesburg and then flying from Johannesburg to Livingstone. I'd like to avoid the trip back to Johannesburg if possible. Looking at the South African Airways flights schedules it appears I'd have to stay overnight in Johannesburg.
Any advice on flights or alternative transport appreciated.
Regards,
Grizzlyscotsman

zam or zim Posted: Tue January 27, 2009 03:38 PM UTC
Hello,
I am planning a long awaited trip to SA from India, in Aug. We are planing 3 nights in Vic Falls. Need to know if its a reasonable time and what are the must do activities, bearing in mind that we would be doing Kruger park before or after. And which country is best bet in terms of good views, activities, value for money, etc.
Thx

Safe to travel to Zimbabwe? Posted: Thu January 8, 2009 04:40 AM UTC
I am looking to travel to Africa in August 2009. I am interested in doing a wildlife safari tour and would love to go to some of the places in Zimbabwe, however i know that it might not be a safe place to travel right now.
If i go in an escorted group tour will it still be very unsafe?
Thanks!

Trip to Vic Falls through Botswana Posted: Sun November 23, 2008 01:59 PM UTC
I am planning a road trip to Lokuthula Lodge near the falls. I will be leaving from Gauteng and wondered whether I need insurance, and what papers I will need at the border posts. What time do the borders open and close? I am also looking for suitable accomodation in Botswana to break up the journey. Must I take US dollars or can I use SA rand? Also should I take additional fuel?
Thanks

Transport from Livingstone airport to Victoria falls town Posted: Sat September 13, 2008 06:36 PM UTC
Due to the recent political situation in Zimbabwe it was unsure where our overland tour would depart from and to be sure we chose to fly in to Livingstone Zambia instead of victoria falls airport. However, it turns out all tours could go back to normal and departure of our tour will be in victoria falls town. However I cannot trace any information on how to travel between Livingstone and Vic Falls town.
Does anyone have a suggestion how best to travel from Livingstone (airport) to Victoria falls town? We have an additional day to spend. Is it recommendable to stay one night in Livingstone and take a taxi the day after to victoria falls town (are direct taxi connections possible between the two cities?). Or should we directly travel from the airport to Zimbabwe (how?) and spend our time there?
I hope one of you could help me out!
Thanks,
Arthur

Getting to Harare Posted: Sun February 10, 2008 05:57 PM UTC
We will be staying in Lusaka (Zambia) a few weeks this coming summer. We are going to visit Kariba on the border with Zimbabwe. What is the best way to get to Harare from Kariba?
Does Air Zimbabwe have daily flights? Any other options then flying?
It is hard to find information on the web about this.
Thanks for any help.

Mobile phones Posted: Sun October 21, 2007 08:46 PM UTC
Hi,
We are travelling to South Africa shortly and will be staying in Cape Town (5 days), Kruger (3 days) and then onto Vic Falls. My mobile phone is unlocked for use anywhere, I intend purchasing a SIM card for use in Cape Town, will I have to purchase another SIM card for when we arrive at Vic Falls?
We will be arriving at Vic Falls beginning of November, please can you tell what can I expect the weather to be like?
We are staying at Vic Falls Hotel, can anyone tell me a little about the hotel and the location of it. Is the area safe? Can you go out on an evening safely? Where is the best place to go for shopping/gifts etc.
Many thanks for all your help/advice.

whitewater rafting on Zambezie Posted: Tue September 11, 2007 04:51 PM UTC
We are signed up for a one-day whitewater rafting trip on the Zambezie River just below the Falls in late October. We hear it is a class 5 river. In the U.S. that would be much beyond our abilities. Has someone taken this trip and if so can you describe it? Thanks.
