My family & I are planning on staying at the Gouves Mare hotel in crete, Gouves. What is it like. How much does a taxi or shuttle cost from Heraklion airport to the hotel. Are there any interesting places to see in Gouves or do we need to travel out to nearby towns for sight seeing

Calais Travelling Rome - UK via Calais
Posted: Tue June 30, 2009 02:44 AM UTC
My wife and I are in our 70's and will be arriving in Calais (by train) from Rome.

We want to cross the Channel by boat so as to see the White Cliffs of Dover from the sea.

Can somebody give me some advice please......

Is the railway station close to the "ferry" terminal....and how do we get from the train to the boat, ie is a taxi applicable and what are the costs etc.

How often do ferries depart Calais and do we board as a "foot" passenger or otherwise....and do we have to have our luggage with us, or is it booked separately?

Finally, an indication of the fares to cross the Channel would be appreciated.

Thanks.........\\

Nord-Pas-de-Calais getting to and from Cappy
Posted: Sat May 9, 2009 10:50 PM UTC
We are NZ'ers hiring a locoboat in Cappy and will be flying into Paris and then taking a train - to Albert I presume. Where is a good place to stay near Cappy that has easy public transport to Cappy. We then need to take a ferry to Dover - which port is the easiest accessible and how do you recommend to get there?

many thanks

Lille Palais des Beaux Arts
Posted: Thu April 16, 2009 12:28 PM UTC
Is there a cafe within the Palais? Or if one wants a cup of something, does this mean finding somewhere outside of the building? It's a big place, so it would be nice if there was somewhere within.

Calais Travelling from Australia to UK via Calais to a region in France without getting exhausted
Posted: Fri January 23, 2009 11:35 PM UTC
I want to know whether it is realistic to fly into UK from Australia then using a rental car drive through to France to find some holiday accomodation for a week. I haven't chosen any regions in France because i don't know realistically how far I can drive without passing out from jetlag!

Lille I hate to miss the good stuff !
Posted: Thu October 9, 2008 11:01 AM UTC
Hello,

My wife and I are planning to visit Lille for a long weekend at the end of this month - October 2008. I've got a broad sketch of what we're going to get up to, but I'd hate to miss out on anything good that may be happening in Lille that weekend.

My - broad - plan is :

Friday - shop, site see, eat out in the evening
Saturday - possibly take the tourist office's English language walking tour of the town, or failing that more shopping, then in the evening there's some tango dancing to be done - I guess food has to come into the equation somewhere
Sunday - the Wazemmes market, and possibly a wander around the citadel gardens, before heading home

Is there anything that I'm missing ? Is there some fabulous music event happening ?

Any and all thoughts are very welcome !

Thank you,

Simon May

Lille Someone out there looking for a flatmate?
Posted: Fri August 29, 2008 04:52 AM UTC
The daughter of my best friend (25y) is looking for people in Lille who would rent her a room for 6.5 to 8 months, from the coming October. She will be at the university and study French, so a place in a student flat would be perfect.

I will be traveling to Boulogne sur Mer in August and want to visit Cap Gris Nez, and hopefully stay somewhere close to there. Is there a public bus that stops in those small towns around there? What's the nicest town to stay in nearby? And does anyone know of any bird watching day-tours? Thanks very much-

Nord-Pas-de-Calais Dover to Boulogne
Posted: Thu March 6, 2008 08:30 PM UTC
I am considering a trip to Nausicaa in Boulogne. I am starting in Dover and am likely to be travelling by P & O as a foot passenger. I was just wondering how long the journey from Calais Ville train station to Bolougne ville station takes via train and how much 2 adult return tickets are likely to cost.

Thanks
