Victoria Falls...Visa or Mastercard?? Posted: Mon February 19, 2007 05:36 PM UTC
Hi
We are staying at Zambezi sun resort and have read on some other sites any other "plastic"other than Visa is not acceptable! Does anyone have any experience of this...we have US dollars we will be taking but will have our cards too...if I offered to pay by for example Mastercard, is there a possibility this will be refused?
Any help would be appreciated.

Zambia..yellow fever vacination required?? Posted: Mon February 12, 2007 08:43 PM UTC
Hi
We are staying at Zambezi Sun hotel in june, which is on the zambian side of vic falls. We are currently establishing what vacs we need for our trip which takes in Cape Town and Kruger first. We are flying from SA to Zambia via Zimbabwe rather than direct to Livingstone.
Our medical clinic said we didnt need vac for yellow fever, but a post on another forum said you did! Has anyone any experience or confirmation or indeed travelled this way?...what we dont want is some hassle at Zimbabwe airport on way back from Zambia asking for yellow fever certificate. If was needed prefer it done in uk, rather than zimbabwe airport....any advice would be most useful.
Thanks

Traveling to Congo via Zambia Posted: Mon February 5, 2007 07:00 PM UTC
We are looking to travel to Lubumbashi, DRC. We thought the best way to get there would be to fly into Lusaka, Zambia and travel across the border. That way we could also visit Zambia a little. Does anyone know the cheapest way to fly in? We would be flying from US/Canada. We had thought November, but flights seem to be pricier. When is it cheapest to go? Would it be less expensive to go via Europe? What visas should we plan on getting? Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated!

do-able trans-SE-africa? Posted: Mon January 22, 2007 09:39 PM UTC
hi everybody!
i am working on a (possibly crazy!) plan to travel overland all the way from cape town to nairobi, or opossite, in about 5 weeks time, stoping only at major sites, using mainly public transportation, around augoust.
main 'targets' are:
-cape town
-sand dunes in namibia
-okavango delta
-victoria falls
-zambezi river
-zanzibar
-serengeti np
-masai mara np
do you think it is doable in this length of time? (limit from my boss!)
any ideas, sugestions -on rather tight budget basis- are absolutely usefull to me
i know it sounds 'mission impossible' but i hope you can help
thank you very much

Hi everybody!
Does anybody know if it is possible to go with public transport from Lusaka to Lake Tanganyika (and hopefully to Kigoma)? How long does it take? Does it make sense to book a tour or a guide or something?
Thank you!

Flying NBO to Victoria Falls Posted: Fri October 27, 2006 11:07 PM UTC
Is there a cheap way to fly from Nairobi to the Victoria Falls area? I'd prefer to get straight to the falls but i'm not sure if you can. Kenya Airways has flights one-way for about $550 to Lusaka but i'm looking for something cheaper than that.
Is that even possible?
Thanks!

Aussie asks many questions re working and living in Zambia Posted: Fri September 8, 2006 04:36 AM UTC
I am an Aussie contemplating accepting a job offer in Lusaka.
I have spent some time in SA and, in certain areas, did not feel safe.
As I am a single female (50) I would like to know the safest place in Lusaka for me to reside. I wish to sleep easy each night.
Is it cheaper to buy a car or take cabs?
Is it safe to drive alone in Lusaka?
Is it safe to visit and shop alone in Lusaka?
Is it safe to be out at night in Lusaka?
Can someone (who has done this themselves) please tell me how difficult it is to conduct business in Lusaka i.e. lease office premises, install internet connection and fax line, purchase fax, PC, etc.
And - food! Is it safe to eat local food and drink the water? I remember falling horribly ill in SA after eating at a 5-star hotel restaurant and NEVER wish to experience that again!
I would really appreciate your response.
Cheers,
Linda

Immigration warning Posted: Tue August 1, 2006 04:59 PM UTC
Has anyone had problems with existing Zambia? Twice we've been scammed for money at the Lusaka airport by the immigration officers who stated we had over-stayed out visit. When you enter the country they write the date you are leaving on your passport stamp. They should get the date from the immigration form you fill out. They have shorted us 3 days twice now, once in 2000 and again last week. We have talked to others who have had this happen and the request is for $200-350 US. Make sure when you enter Zambia you check the date written in your passport before walking away from the immigration officer. If you encounter this problem because you forgot to check your dates, ask for the airport manager.

Transport between Lusaka and Karibe Posted: Sat July 15, 2006 09:45 PM UTC
Do you know if a public bus or tourist bus is available from Lusaka to Karibe. I arrive in Lusaka at 1pm on September 14th and I need to get to Karibe that same day, because I have a canoe safari the next day up to Mana Pools for 4 days and 3 nights. Then I return from Karibe to Lusaka on the 18th departing Karibe around noon or so. If you know of a cheaper way to go between these places, and the schedules, I would appreciate your help.
Thanks

lusaka cost of living Posted: Wed June 21, 2006 11:10 AM UTC
Friends,
I'm considering coming to Lusaka as a volunteer for an orphanage there, and also to investigate the possibility of importing native handcrafts. I can't seem to find information about the cost of living in Lusaka, ie, are there reasonable apartments and rooms for rent, and what is a standard rental for foreigners or expatriates there who are not at all interested in "luxury" accommodations, but would appreciate clean and comfortable.
I'm also curious about the general weather in Lusaka, average temperatures, and whether air pollution is a problem.
With thanks for any information, Lauren

Craft village, Victoria falls Posted: Sun April 16, 2006 05:29 PM UTC
Advice needed please!!!
My husband and myself will be vising the Victoria Falls at the end of May.
I have heard that the local people like to barter for their crafts.
My question is what types of things do they like to bargin for. I have heard tee shirts are a big thing... also pens... or have I been misinformed.
Can anyone suggest smaller type items that they could use to make their life a little easier.. (have to consider packing)
Thanks

I'm planning to travel to Zambia to see my friend to Lusaka. I have two little children (age 3 and 6). I would like to know what it would be like to travel there with children - what I should pay attention to and what things there are worth to see.
Thanks in advance,

Visit an Orphanage Posted: Mon May 30, 2005 11:46 AM UTC
I will be in Livingstone for a short time in Sept. I don't have much free time, but would like to visit an orphanage. Most volunteer organizations require a long term committment. Does anyone know of an orphanage that allows someone to visit for a day or a few hours to volunteer/donate?

Accomodation Posted: Mon May 23, 2005 10:36 PM UTC
Does anybody know where to find accommodation in Lusaka? I will be living there for 4.5 months and prefer to share a place with flat mates. Nothing luxurious. Otherwise a small apartment would be good too. I cannot afford that much since I am a student. I would appreciate any help and advice. Thanks!
