Hotels in Livingstone Posted: Fri June 26, 2009 09:44 PM UTC
Hey all:
I need some advice on a fun place to stay in Livingstone. I will be traveling solo. I tried to book at Jolly Boys...but they were full.
Let me know a good alternative. Some place that is fun, under $100 us per night and right in the middle of things.
Thanks!

Livingstone questions Posted: Sat June 13, 2009 04:30 AM UTC
We are traveling to South Africa and were thinking about doing a side trip to Zambia to see Victoria Falls. We are an American couple with an 8-year old daughter, and prefer to travel independently, avoiding tour groups if possible. Our questions are:
1. Are there any saftey issues that we should be concerned about in Livingstone or the Victoria Falls area? Is the area across the border in Zimbabwe safe?
2. Is there a hotel that people especially recommend in Livingstone?
3. It looks like there is a good national park across the border into Botswana. How easy is it to get there from Livingstone? Is it doable by rental car, or should we book a driver or tour?
4. How many days should we stay in Livingstone? At first glance, it looks like Victoria Falls and the local museum are the highlights, so 1-2 days should suffice. Is this reasonable?

Yet another visa question Posted: Mon June 8, 2009 08:05 PM UTC
I hear stories about the hotel setting up my visa for me. That my name will be on a list at the airport and I won't have to pay. Anybody know anything about this?

Visa for US citizen Posted: Fri June 5, 2009 05:36 PM UTC
Can I get a visa at the border for a 2 day visit? Do I need passport photos or anything special? Or do I have to get the visa in advance? The embassy website is amazingly unhelpful.

view of the falls? Posted: Wed April 22, 2009 10:46 PM UTC
I'm going to land in Livingstone on my way to a lodge in Chobe (Botswana). The travel agent arranged for someone to pick me up and transport me. She suggested that I might want to venture into Zimbabwe to see the falls. The visa will cost somewhere between $50 and $100 I think. I'm not knocked out about going into Zimbabe, and money is money.
Can I get a good view of the falls from Zambia, or will I be missing the opportunity of a lifetime by not going into Zimbabwe?
Thanks

Looking for a particular Zambian song!! Posted: Fri February 20, 2009 11:19 PM UTC
This is a long shot but I'm hopeful!
While I was in Malawi I went to this bar and all the locals were going crazy over zambian music. They kept shouting "play zambian music"
So the bar tender put on this phenominal music on and later burned me a copy of it...unfortunetly the cd broke while traveling :( So I'd love to find out who sings these songs
I would instantly know the songs if I heard them but I only remember a few of the lyrics:
Song 1: The main lyric is in english and it's: "I can't believe that it's over" and then it would go into to a chorus which was in a local language.
Song 2: This song had a real uplifting vibe to it. The singer would mostly grunt or make a noise such as HA and the only lyric I can remember is "I see you" He said that lyric by itself and throughout the song.
If anyone knows these songs please help me out! I'd love to hear them again. Either reply to this post or email me at j.heaven@hotmail.com
Thanks!!

Zambia-Togo sept 5 (football) Posted: Tue August 26, 2008 06:10 PM UTC
Hello all,
As I will be in Zambia that day, I wonder how it is to visit the football game between Zambia and Togo. I think this game is important for both countries in the WC 2010 qualifications.
I once saw a football game in The Gambia, however only 80 spectators showed up so the atmosphere was smooth.
Therefore I wonder what to expect. I think it is safe to go using common sense, but I wonder whether the athmoshere changes if Zambia looses the game.
I'ld be thankful for any practical advise concerning this matter.
Thanks in advance.
Baughn.

Day trip visa for Livingstone? Posted: Fri June 13, 2008 09:28 PM UTC
Does anyone know if it's still possible for a US national to get a "day trip" visa (the one that only allows you to stay in the country until the end of the day on which you entered) at the Victoria Falls/Livingstone border checkpoint? I'll be staying in Victoria Falls for several days in late July and would like to take one day to see things from the Zambian side and check out Livingstone - but if it's true that US nationals are now only eligble for the US$135 multiple entry visas, that becomes a pretty pricey day trip! If anyone has been there recently, an update would be appreciated.

Chimfunshi Wildlife Sanctuary Posted: Sat March 29, 2008 01:28 PM UTC
Hi,I'm thinking of travelling to Chimfunshi to work for a couple of months around June-july of this year,
I just wondered if anyone has been to the sanctuary and can tell me a bit about the area?
I read a good deal on the internet about this area in zambia not being that safe, and just wondered how safe and easy it is to get transport from the airport to the sanctuary?
Also is there email facilities and shops nearby?

Visa for Zambia for Australian Passport holder Posted: Sun February 24, 2008 04:16 AM UTC
I know this was changed recently, & Zambia are routinely the country that ignore emails. Is it easy to obtain visa upon entry at border crossing at Chipata rather than arranging beforehand, and how much is it now?

Lusaka Posted: Fri June 8, 2007 07:40 AM UTC
Next month, I´m flying into Lusaka on my way to South Luangwe National Park. Still thinking whether to skip this city or hang around for a few days. Anyone knows a good reason to spend a few days here? While I like to see African wildlife, I also like to experience modern African living. Any good bars with live African music in Lusaka?

Buying Visa in Livingstone, Zambia Posted: Wed May 9, 2007 06:59 PM UTC
Hi I'll be visiting Livingstone to do medically related volunteer work and was told that I would need a business visa. Can I buy a business visa at the airport? How reliable is this method? Would I be rejected for any reason? Would you recommend that I get one through the embassy here?

Victoria Falls...Visa or Mastercard?? Posted: Mon February 19, 2007 04:36 PM UTC
Hi
We are staying at Zambezi sun resort and have read on some other sites any other "plastic"other than Visa is not acceptable! Does anyone have any experience of this...we have US dollars we will be taking but will have our cards too...if I offered to pay by for example Mastercard, is there a possibility this will be refused?
Any help would be appreciated.
