I am a lone travelling student and I will be spending one night in Sontorini. WOuld you know the ebst hostels for me to look at? Also, is it safe for a lone person there?

In order to catch an overnight ferry to Santorini and but the ticket in the same day where should i buy it?

I know that the companies sell the tickets at the Piraeus Port but can i buy it a few hours before departure (2-4hours)? At what time do these offices, who sell the tickets at the Piraeus port, close? 6/7pm? or later?

Hello, i've read somewhere that there is an old path (way) from Fira to Oia that takes about 3hours (walking).
1st question, Does it sounds good for a person walking alone?Is this path crowded or not?Is it dangerous for a single person? Or, maybe i can make some friends in the island and take with me. Who knows?!
2nd question, Can i walk just till Firostefani and catch there a bus to Oia? Is it more beautiful from there, as soon as the villages desapear and we walk without a concrete path?

Thinking to visit the island for a week with my wife in September.
Want to find a most scenic, possibly more local feel hotel (4 stars or higher) that`s quiet, beautiful, with excellent service, amazing views, food and essentially the experience of a lifetime - that feels as far as possible from crowds / too touristy places, yet has access by bicycle (we can ride distances!) to great breathtaking scenery and also the quietest beaches and the best taverns / restaurants....

I'll be staying at El Greco Hotel in Fira for 3 days in Sept 2008. I'd love any suggestions for the following?

Casual, inexpensive places to eat. Being sure to include vegetarian items, as I'm a vegetarian, but my companion is not.

Is there a great beach that we should hang out at during the day? If so, how should we get there?

Is there an internet cafe somewhere?

Any other suggestions on what we should do or see?!?!

My fiance & I would like to have a nice honeymoon in the Greek Isles next summer. Well, actually we are thinking of mid to late May 2009- is this a good time to visit Santorini & the greek islands?

Also, we welcome suggestions of places to stay (mid range pricing)... A great view is preferable . And is it easy to explore other greek islands (by boat tours) while staying at a hotel in santorini?

From what I read, it seems like there is an airport in Santorini. I'm guessing we would get a connecting flight from Athens (unless any of you know of a better way).

I welcome any suggestions you would like to offer!

Some of my favorite mental images of Oia are of the most amazing and very rare "Double-Whammy", the almost simultaneous Sunset and Full Moonrise.

For those who are interested it will happen in about 2 weeks on August 17 between 8:15 and 8:40 PM. If you're fortunate enough to be on Santorini then, go to Oia and grab a spot where you can clearly see westward towards the sunset as well as eastward back towards Fira. The rooftop terrace of the Pelekanos Cafe is the best spot for this event. You can also see it from the Oia Castle overlook, where everyone goes to watch the sunset, above the steps leading down to Amoudi. After the sunset just turn around and look towards Fira. Don't miss it if you're there!

I will be in Santorini for a couple of days from July 25th. I am styaing in Oia, arriving by plane. What is the best and cheapest way to get to Oia?

The hotel I am stying in have proposed to come and pick me up for 30€, which I think it´s quite expensive. What is the price from the airport to Oia?

And, for comming back, I will do it by ferry from Thira port. What should I don to get there and how much does it cost?

For staying in the island and moving around, is it a good idea to rent a car, motorbike or quad? Or is it more cost effective to move with taxis?

Hi all! I just got back from a trip to Santorini and Oia and it was just too short. I was running (literally) to catch up with my tour group and I passed a little jewelry store that overlooked the caldera. It was white and airy, very small, a woman was running it. In the window was a silver ring that had been carved to look like the unmistakable profile of Oia's domed chruches and little houses. The store was mostly silver but the other front window had gold in it. I love the piece but couldn't stop to buy! Does anyone know what this place is called? I need to get my hands on that ring!

My flight out of Santorini leaves around 22:30, and according to weather.com, the sun sets around 20:30 around the end of July. I have a couple of questions on how to best see the infamous Santorini sunset:
1. Is the sunset from Fira as nice as the one in Oia? If so, do I have enough time to see the sunset from Fira, take the bus to the airport, go through security, get to my flight ? I guess I was wondering how busy the airport is, if traffic's a problem (it's a Sun. night), etc.
2. If I opt to go to Oia,

I have 4 hours in Santorini off of a cruise ship. What should I not miss? What's the best thing to do in that amount of time?

I saw that it takes 16 hours to go to Santorini from Rhodes.
Is there an easy way to arrive Santorini from Kos or Samos in July?
I will appreciate if anyone tells me which island has the easiest ferry connection to Santorini (Kos, Samos, Rhodes)...

We are considering a cruise that will take us to Santorini on Friday, April 24. Since the next Sunday is the Greek Easter, would that mean that Friday is what we would consider "Good Friday". If so, what problems might we face with places being closed?

Also, what would be the alternatives to taking a "ship" tour of Santorini. Are their local guides? Could we plan a trip on our own? What are some "must sees"?

Hi,could any one please give me some details,and the best places to go for good priced food and drink in Kamari.Me and the misses have just booked togo to Kamari in July 2008,we have been to loads of greek islands over the past 10 years and thought we would push the boat out this year with me being 30 aday before we go.A lot of people have said that santorini is quite expensive in regards to going out (and i do like the odd drink on holiday)if anybody could give abit of info it would be abig help.

I booked my ferry to Santorini in June and now want to sort out my accomodation for 3 nights, I am travelling on a budget and have been looking at hostels and cant decide between 3. The first 2 are Hostel Anna or Katerina and John Hotel in Perissa both are the same cost (about €7 per night) and the other is Youth Hostel Oia in Oia which is €15 per night. Is it worth paying the extra to be in Oia?

I am a single traveller who will be out sightseeing in the day and chilling out in the evening and wondered if one resort might be better for me than the other? I have heard that Oia is quite expensive for food and drink is that true? How does Perissa compare?

Also if anyone has stayed at any of the hostels feed back would be appreciated!

In Santorini, which port Hellenic Seaway's Flying Cat uses, Skala or Athinios?
How about other ferries from Santorini to Iraklion/Crete?

Besides FlyingCat4 will continue onto Irakion, I still have not seen OTHER ferry schedule Santorini to Iraklion/Crete for mid-May. I am looking for ferry rides leaving Santorini earlier in the day (Flying CAT leaves after 17:25).

We are (2 people) planning to visit Santorini in mid June. We can depart either from Marmaris or Bodrum. I checked few web pages mentioned here but I could not find any ship from Rodos or Kos to Santorini (since Kos or Rodos are easier destinations for us). Can you please help me if you know how to make this trip in the cheapest way possible. We are students and have limited budget.
