I'm planning a 2 night stay on Santorini island in April 2010. I'm a scenic photographer and want to take the typical postcard photos of the white buildings on the cliffs with the sea in the distance etc etc (you know the ones!), and also of the blue-domed churches and maybe a windmill thrown in or two. Where are the best townsites/spots to take these photos without scads of telephone lines in the way? I was planning to book a room at the Shine Hotel in Imverogli (sp?) and it looks ideal except for those pesky telephone lines....Also, I heard there was a path linking Fira with Oia (another must-do, I think?). Is it harder to walk than the Cinque-Terre was in Italy or is it fairly easy? How long of a walk if I stop for lots of photos? I'm toting along my 73 yr old mother (who has climbed Huangshan mountain in China with me recently, so she suvived it well enough). Thanks!

Lower our expectations? We are travelling to Santorini via cruise ship in November on a Sunday (off season & on a day of rest). Realistically, what can we expect to see open? Our game plan, if we are fortunate enough, was to cable car up to Fira, wander a bit over maybe over to Imerovigli for lunch and cab it to Oia. Will be find restaurants open? and sufficient cabs to visit/return from Oia without difficulty? Thanks for any suggestions.

Hoping someone can tell me what the weather is usually like in the middle of October. I have cruised in September and the weather was fabelous.
But, what is October usually like, do you think I can enjoy some sunny warm days.
My cruise takes in Greece, Turkey, Egypt and Israel.

Getting excited about going to Greece next week!

Quick question, we fly into Thira very early morning next Friday (6.30am) and we can't check into the hotel (guesthouse) until midday and can't even leave bags until 8am. Are there any cafes, restaurants etc open that early in Fira so we can wait in style? May be a stupid question but you never know!

My partner and I are looking at a trip to Santorini in May 2010 or August/September 2010. We want to avaid peak season.

Is the weather warm through the beginning of May and still warm through the end of August, start of September? What type of weather can we expect?

Also we are looking at staying in Fira in budget accommodation, less than 100 euro per night. If anyone could please recommend places to stay that would be great.

I will be staying in Fira in September. Is there anywhere I can go for a run that is at all flat and where I will not get run over?

There is a water sport tip on a VT member's page about kayaking near Ammoudi harbor but the post is from 2004. I also read a post on Travel Advisor and someone mentioned that kayaking is not allowed because of all the ferry traffic.

So there is no place to kayak, at all, on the island?

Our ship arrives in Santorini at 4pm and leaves at 11pm. Are there any wineries still open? Any recomendations on what to do in the evenings. I will have my daughters (18/21)with us. As far as I can see the 18 year old can go into bars and drink with us. Anybody know of a place where 40ish parents can hang with the younger crowds and both be happy? My husband and I both love to dance/drink etc.. and don't mind the girls drinking and having fun with us, just don't want a place that would be "inappropriate".

We've decided to spend 3 days in Santorini in September and was wondering on the best places to stay and what to do. I have found a great looking hotel in Kamari (Anassa Deluxe Suites). Is that a good place/area to stay? Also, are tours necessary or is taking buses or hiring a car better? I assume driving isn't difficult seeing as I drive in Dubai?!

We are two girls in our late twenties. We basically want somewhere with some good nightlife (not too rowdy!!), things to do and see and have some relaxation.

I would love to have some recommendation on where to stay in Santorini next weekend. My husband and I love nice beaches, plenty of tourists, busy lifestyles and busy nights. Any town has the crowd walking around, restaurants and shops, nightclubs staying late? ? Oio or Fiera... Not sure also the black beaches are they pretty popular? Is the sand rough or soft? IS this swimmable? What is the most popular destination inside santorini and where do you advice us to stay

I'll be landing on the 30th of July for a period of 7 nights. I'd like to do a super whirlwind tour of the Cyclade Islands....preferably Santorini, Naxos, Paros Ios and some other island. Its basically for photography that i'm coming so i'd like to visit all the scenic islands.

Also need REALLY cheap accomodation. I am not at all fussy about the place. I just need a place for the night on each island. I will be travelling most of the time and a posh room will do me no good. I dont even mind camping sites. Can anyone make any suggestions ?

I am staying in Santorini for 2wks in August. I just booked yesterday and i'm really looking forward to my trip!!

I have a few questions.
1. Are there any events happening over these dates which I should make a note to attend?

2. I'm fit, but completely navigationally disabled. Is it possible to walk everywhere? Is there a walking guide anyone could recommend for such a purpose? (I'm not sure where i'll be staying as i've booked 'accommodation on arrival - I hope I don't get a raw deal!)

3. I'm not going to have lots of money to spare, but if I do decide i'd like the experience of taking a trip off the island for the day, or maybe an overnight stay somewhere - where would you recommend?

I need a ferry from athens to santorini. I want to see the cost, etc... Then a reasonably priced hotel for one night (I don't need the beach, just the view) . I saw a bunch of hotels on expedia, but rather have a recommendations. I don't want to be deserted at night, maybe stay somewhere where there's people out and about at night..

Budget for hotel? 100 - 150 euros? or is that too little?

I will be arriving in Santorini for a couple days next month and just have some basic questions regarding getting from the airport to our hotel in Oia. Can anyone give an estimate of how long the drive is from the airport to Oia? Also, is it easy to just hail a taxi at the airport, or would it be better to arrange a pickup beforehand?

I will be taking my parent and parent in-laws to a cruise in Nov 2009. The cruise will arrive in Santorini @ 2pm and leaving @ 10pm. Is Fira far away from where the cruise docked? Should we take a Taxi? Any sight that we should not miss? Thank you in advance for your help!!

Hi, I am looking for some nice caldera view accommodation walking distance to fira, but not in the middle of the mayhem, up to about 100Euro. Hotel Keti looked good but is booked out. Maybe something similar? Also, I read someones question about folegandros. Sounds interesting. Can anyone tell me more about this place? Thank you very much for your time. Much apreciated.

I gonna rent a car for a couple of days to visit all the island I guess it will be enough and I really don't wanna pass my vacations driving.


For the rest of the time I'll have to choose a area to stay I'm thiking about Perissa I don't fully know what to except of that "area" what is the size of the village? What does it look like? What could i do there besides the beach?

Should I choose Fira instead? There are any beaches on Fira?

About eating hon much should I expect to pay for a normal meal in average places? Is there a plenty of choice on both Perissa and Fira?


Finally and is the best option to go from the airport and port to the villages?
I'll arrive by plane and leave by ferrie probably gone rent the car on the first days so the trip from the airport will be no problem.

what is the most happening area in santorini island (for example patong beach in Phuket, Thailand)? I am refering to both accomodation choices and also night life. I will be staying 3 nights in the island and do not wish to travel back to my hostel/hotel when i am drunk!....hahahha.... Is it Thira, Kamari or Perissa?

Hi, I am planning on travelling from Athens to Folegrandos to Santorini to Paros and back to Athens over 14 days. Is this realistic? Want to be able to relax and enjoy my holidays too!!

Also would you advise booking somewhere to stay before I go or are there better deals to be got by booking on spec?

Rest assured that there will be a bus passing right by Laokasti that will return you to Imerovigli, Firostefani and Fira later on after the sunset. Laokasti Restaurant is Orange #16 in 'C10' across from the large Church of St. George, on the right side of the road about 300 yards/meters past the Anemomilos Tavern and the Windmill at the "Oia Market" ('C13').

The prices are fair and the food from the standard menu is traditional Greek cuisine. I think you can expect to pay between 15-20 euro per person for a meal, more for grilled meats and fish, and of course the wine is extra! Please let me know soon if you plan to attend so I can give the owner of Laokasti some idea of what to expect in the way of customers that night. Also, **_VERY IMPORTANT_**-- I promised the owner I would try to give him some idea of how many people will be coming, and most importantly how many of you would be having a meal as opposed to drinks and mezzes, so please let me know what your intentions will be food-wise.

We are planning to visit the greek islands in June, 2009. The starting point is Samos. We want to spend 1 week in the islands, the two islands we want to visit are Mykonos & Santorini. The greek ferries havent declared their timetables yet:(
1. From Samos what kind of a route should we plan?
2. How many days in which island? Which other islands (on our way) worth seeing?
3. Are there any restaurants & pensions (not expensive) that you can reccomend?
4. Should we book on line or is arriving on the island and finding a place to stay better?
5. Approximately how much the hotels, ferries and lunch/dinners cost?
6. Is night life expensive?
7. any other tips?

I am planning a month-long holiday June 2010. I am in the planning stage. Am looking at staying near Perissa - maybe Villa the Birds or Athanasia Apartments. Thoughts on these places? Or any others that are fairly inexpensive but clean and near the beach? Also, I love to hike, take photos, and dive. This is a relaxation holiday - no time frames for anything specific. Also, what if I wanted to hire a day charter boat to just go nowhere? Any recommendations? And a price to expect?
How safe is it to rent a Vespa type or 3 wheeler and run on the roads? Also, what is the law on that there?

Going to Santorini in mid-may for 3-4 days, have never been there before and was wondering about suggestions on things to do and where to stay. Would like to stay in a hotel with beautiful views and possibly a balcony overlooking the ocean. Seems like Red beach and Kierma are some of the top beachs to see there. Is the Caldera tour worth it in may? With your experiences and we would like a diverse trip including beachs some tours and nice dinners, what would you guys suggest for a itinery? We are arriving to Santorini in july at 8:00 am in a cruise, and we would like to know if we could join there a tour to the volcano and hotsprings with no prior booking, just getting to a travel agency and hiring the service. Or should we book before we arrive?
