Uganda Accommodation in Kampala
Posted: Sun June 22, 2008 09:19 AM UTC
Hi there
Last year we stayed at the Tourist Motel (reasonably priced) and Hotel Africana (dearer). Can anyone recommend nice accommodation that's also in the centre, priced approx mid-way between the two? (But not the Fang Fang). We are travelling with our 2 children.
Thank you!

Hi everyone,
I am heading to Uganda (Kampala) in August and was wondering if I should change money before I get there or leave it until I fly into Entebbe. Is there a currency converter at the airport and what is the best form of carrying money - travellers cheques, cash or debit/credit card?
Thanking you in advance,

Uganda wedding in Uganda
Posted: Tue January 29, 2008 06:44 PM UTC
Hi,

After becoming in love with Africa last year in Kenya and Tanzania, this year, more exactly April, I will travel to Uganda to take part to a wedding of a friend.

As I am of orthodox religion, I am not so aware of the customs and practicies of such a wedding. I have few questions and I hope you will help me in getting ready for it in a proper way:
- what kind of clothes shall I have for the wedding?
- how much time does ussualy a wedding last? I mean.. more days? and please do not laugh, but this will be my first experience with an Africa wedding
- what kind of wishes shall we say to the bride and groom?
- what kind of gifts shall we bring for the bride and groom? In my country, people are usually contributing with general gifts for the house but more importantly money to help them is setting up their own home.

Thanks!

Uganda looking for people to join me on a Murchison Falls trip Aug 24th-Aug26th
Posted: Fri August 3, 2007 10:15 AM UTC
Hi all!
I'm looking for people to join me on a trip to Murchison Falls on Aug 24th-26th. It's a budget trip with everything included (camping equipment, meals, park fees etc). The cost is 280$, but that's if I find enough people to join me! I think that quote is based on 10 people, but I'm not sure. Anyway, the more people the better to make sure that the price doesn't increase... Activities on the trip include viewing the falls, a boat trip on the Nile, and a game drive... I've been to Murchison before and I must say it's my favourite park in Uganda.
Anyway, please let me know if anyone is interested!

Uganda Proof of Vaccinations Required at Entebbe?
Posted: Wed July 25, 2007 11:54 AM UTC
Hi there,

Has anybody ever been asked about vaccinations upon entry into Uganda? I have been vaccinated against yellow fever, all hep shots, typhoid, polio, etc. Other than the yellow fever certificate which is in my passport, do I need to bring proof that I have recevied any other vaccinations? I have been reading conflicting information on the various foreign affairs / consular websites about meningitis and cholera vaccinations (which I don't have), so wanted to see if anyone has ever been questioned about this at the Entebbe International Airport. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide!!!!

Uganda moving to Uganda
Posted: Mon June 25, 2007 10:37 AM UTC
Hi
My husband and I are planning to move to Uganda to live with our 2 children (ages 7 and 11) and will first of all be going over in September for a look-see.
Are there any places you would recommend we check out? We are looking for somewhere safe, with health care and education available, though ideally not a large city.
Thank you!

Uganda Water conditions
Posted: Tue June 19, 2007 03:36 PM UTC
Hi all.
I keep searching/getting ready for our trip.
I have some more questions about water.
Is it easy to find spring water outside Kampala and main cities? Should we carry pills to make water "drinkable"?(sorry for my poor english!). I have had some stomach problems in some of the countries I have visited, nothing serious, and I guess it is something I have to count with...

Finally. What about those small "animals" in the rivers that gets into you and then grow? Are there "safe" places to swimm and relax?

Thank you very much!!

Uganda Bwindi Permit Available for June 29th
Posted: Wed June 13, 2007 07:04 AM UTC
Due to changes in my original plans, I am unfortunately constrained to cancel my trip to East Africa for now and forego my reservation for June 29th for the Gorilla Trekking at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda. I paid for this permit in March 2007 but now I either have to postpone my reservation for another date (which I am still not sure of) or offer it for sale. I have spoken with UWA and they are willing to sell this June 29th permit for me. The price is $375. Please note that the tickets are going up on July 1st and will be selling for $500. This is a high season and according to UWA all reservations for July and August are sold out. If you are interested in purchasing this ticket, please let me know as soon as possible so I can inform UWA to release this spot for you and sell you the ticket. Please only serious buyers need to respond. Thank you.

Uganda Change rates, foreign currency.
Posted: Fri May 18, 2007 03:26 PM UTC
Hi.
I have read in VT pages that Kampala is the best place to get a good rate when changing money, but I wonder if everything in that country must be paid with local currency or do they ask for dollars (euros?) in camps, hotels, restaurants etc.

I am from Europe,so do I change my money first to dollars and then there ugandan money?

Thank you very much!

Uganda Gorilla permits
Posted: Sat May 12, 2007 04:25 AM UTC
Hi all,

We've tried so many times to call the Uganda Wildlife Authority but all the numbers aren't working. We've emailed, called and ever called our phone operator to see if they can find a different number but nothing. I know that heaps of people didn't have troubles booking them but someone wrote that they were moved probably and didn’t gave us a good answer. We really want to book this soon as we heard that you normally have to book it at least 6 months in advance. Does anyone know the new fax number or phone number of this, or a better way of contacting them?

Thanks heaps,

Ron

Kampala African renting in Kampala
Posted: Tue May 8, 2007 03:29 AM UTC
Hello everyone,
I know this is not a "travel" question but one that I would love help with. I have sponsor families living in or near Kampala and was wondering if anyone knew rougly how much rent would be a month in the houses that poor African families live in. Even a rough estimate would be great as I can't find anything when I "google" it.
Many thanks,

Uganda Safety,
Posted: Mon May 7, 2007 03:37 PM UTC
Hello.
I am reading some articles about the political situation in the country. I can picture the situation in Kampala, and probably some other cities, but what about small villages, and camping sites?.

Our plan is to visit several diferent places in the country and probably going to Kenya by coach, but... Most of the articles are a bit "oldfashioned"(from some years ago) and I guess situation is better now. I have read some Ugandan newspaper online too, but I donīt know if that is a trustable information.

We(my wife and I) want to go "backpapers", just the plane ticket and some luggage. It is not the first time, so we have some practice and we know some of the "do" and "not do" things...but we would aprecciate any "updated" fact.

THANKS!.

We are considering visiting someone in Kampala, but are unfamiliar with the area so we are concerned about safety. What has others' experience been on this topic, particularly if traveling with children? Thanks.
