from what I read, you cannot get Tunisians dinars outside of Tunis, neither you can take them with you outside the country.

I will be coming from France with few euros and many durhams (UAE currency).

1- Should I exchange the UAE durhams to euros here in France, then exchange the euros in Tunis to dinars? Just in case the UAE durhams rate is very poor in Tunis.

2- Should I exchange all my money at the airport? or exchange a little just for the taxi and then exchange the rest in town for a better deal?

Thanks

Hi, folks!
I'm having a tour in Tunisia at the end of aug 2010,and I intend to re-scedule a bit two days we have more-less free (the rest is organized and fully packed).
We have a whole day to spend in Hammamet and I prefere to visit Sousse.
Few days later we'll get to Sousse and spend all day there, but I'd like to use it to see Sfax and Mahdia. I read in guide that they're worth visiting and Sousse is closest to them, later we won't have a chance.
I have few questions about that:
1. Is it worth all trouble , as it seems according to guide?
2. Can we visit Sfax and Mahdia in one day,(is there enough time to travel and visit of maybe just to go to Sfax?
3. Which way of transportation would be the best for trips Hammamet-Sousse and Sousse-Sfax-Mahdia? It doesn't have to be cheapest but I'd not pay any price...

Can I get some advice about it please?
Thanks all
Mirko

Can anyone tell me

a) how far it is from where the airport bus arrives in 'downtown' Tunis to the railway station?

b) houw far it is from where the airport bus arrives in 'downtown' Tunis to where the Metro starts?

c) how far it is from the Tunis stop of the Metro to where the louages go to Teboursouk/Dougga? I think there are a couple of louage stations in Tunis.......

I would try and work it out for myself but I have exhausted the possibilities on the internet, and am going round in circles and my copy of Rough Guide to Tunisia seems to have been lost in the post.

Many thanks for any assistance.

We are planning a holiday to either Yasmine Hammamet or Port El Katataoui. However I've been reading up about the local food and it looks as though we may have problems with our daughter, who is allergic to milk, nuts, fish (including seafood) and lamb!! Will she have to live on dry bread all week, or is there a local dish that contains none of the above that we can ask for?

I'll be in Tunis next week for a EuroMed meeting. The hotel will be very comfortable but I fancy escaping one evening to eat somewhere else. Can anyone recommend a restaurant in Tunis?

I've been reading through the threads and have gotten some great information, so thanks to all those who have asked and answered before.

We'll be on a cruise, in port from 8:30 to 4:00 in late April. It will be myself and two children (girl 15, boy 11) who are very interested in history and culture. I have minimal knowledge of Arabic, currently taking a course two hours a week. The children want to see Carthage and the Medina, and eat "real" Tunisian food. They're not picky eaters, and adapt well to new environments.

Would it be better to hire a private tour operator before arriving in Tunis? Any recommendations for one? I've read people find taxi drivers at port to take them around, but am curious as to what the going rate for a trip to Carthage then back into old city would be. For those experienced travelers and residents, which would be the better choice for a woman with her two children-tour or taxi/on our own? We're not interested in doing much shopping, or doing the ship's tour.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I am going to be in London next week for work and would like to take a weekend to travel outside of the UK. I was thinking of Tunisia and would really like some help deciding on places to stay and a tour company offering day tours. I am considering Hammamet but am open to other suggestions. I love taking photos so i'm alwasy interested in beautiful and unique landscapes, people and culture. So any citites that you can think of would be much appreciated.

I've been to Egypt and Istanbul on my own, both of which I experienced some cat calling from men but nothing serious or to the extent where I felt uncomfortable. Should I have any concerns in Tunisia? I found a good fair on Lufthansa leaving London in the evening and arriving in Tunisia at 12:55am which is good enough to rest and get up to then enjoy 2 full day of exploring.

Looking forward to everyone's responses. Thanks, Anna
