Tunis Dining in Tunis

I'll be in Tunis next week for a EuroMed meeting. The hotel will be very comfortable but I fancy escaping one evening to eat somewhere else. Can anyone recommend a restaurant in Tunis?

Tunis One day in port: guide or on our own?
Posted: Tue October 13, 2009 05:46 PM UTC
I've been reading through the threads and have gotten some great information, so thanks to all those who have asked and answered before.

We'll be on a cruise, in port from 8:30 to 4:00 in late April. It will be myself and two children (girl 15, boy 11) who are very interested in history and culture. I have minimal knowledge of Arabic, currently taking a course two hours a week. The children want to see Carthage and the Medina, and eat "real" Tunisian food. They're not picky eaters, and adapt well to new environments.

Would it be better to hire a private tour operator before arriving in Tunis? Any recommendations for one? I've read people find taxi drivers at port to take them around, but am curious as to what the going rate for a trip to Carthage then back into old city would be. For those experienced travelers and residents, which would be the better choice for a woman with her two children-tour or taxi/on our own? We're not interested in doing much shopping, or doing the ship's tour.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Tunis Single female traveler in London for business with 2 days to spare for travel
Posted: Fri April 11, 2008 02:38 AM UTC
I am going to be in London next week for work and would like to take a weekend to travel outside of the UK. I was thinking of Tunisia and would really like some help deciding on places to stay and a tour company offering day tours. I am considering Hammamet but am open to other suggestions. I love taking photos so i'm alwasy interested in beautiful and unique landscapes, people and culture. So any citites that you can think of would be much appreciated.

I've been to Egypt and Istanbul on my own, both of which I experienced some cat calling from men but nothing serious or to the extent where I felt uncomfortable. Should I have any concerns in Tunisia? I found a good fair on Lufthansa leaving London in the evening and arriving in Tunisia at 12:55am which is good enough to rest and get up to then enjoy 2 full day of exploring.

Looking forward to everyone's responses. Thanks, Anna

Tunis TUNIS to TOZEUR overnight train
Posted: Thu April 10, 2008 07:26 PM UTC
Hi ,

we land in Tunis on sunday evening at 16.50. We want to take the overnight train to Tozeur which departs at 20.50 for arrival in the morning. Can anyone tell me what is the best way to get to the train station (taxi?)for tains to the south from the airport and how long it will take to do. Do we have enuoght time to do this - 4 hours? I am UK citizen so visas no problem but my wife is austarlian so will need a visa on arrival. I'm assuming that this wont takle so long and that we will be able to make the train - but any TIME SAVING tips would be appreciated - for example would it be best to book the train tickets online in advance - do we then have to pick them up at the station, will ther be ques etc etc?

Thanks in advance.

Tunis Travel in Tunisia

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to tunisia for the end of this month. We would like to visit the War Memorial in Medjez-El-Bab, approx. 60 kilometres west of Tunis. Apparently you can get a train there, but I have been able to find anything online that confirms this - can anyone advise on this?

Many thanks

Tunis Hiring a Guide
Posted: Sat February 16, 2008 10:01 PM UTC
We will be spending a few hours in Tunis during a shore excursion from our ship. We have purchased transfers from the port to Tunis from the ship and return, but we would like to hire a local guide to show us around, and, especially, to shop. Are there "official guides"? Where would we find them and how would we know they are legitimate? We will only have about 4 hours in the city; does anyone have an approximate idea as to how much we should pay a guide? Thanks, Sandy Princeton67@Cox.net

Tunis Marche central, Tunis
Posted: Tue January 8, 2008 07:51 PM UTC
Strange question, I know, but could anyone give me some information about Tunis' central food market? It is the largest one in Tunisia? I'd heard it was divided into separate halls for different things and that they sell horse heads in the meat section. Is this right or am I thinking about somewhere else...? I'd be really grateful for any info. Thanks.

Tunis Summer Internship in Tunis!
Posted: Thu December 27, 2007 05:31 AM UTC
Greetings-
I have recently accepted an internship in Tunis for Summer 2008. I was wondering if anyone has information or could connect me with a one bedroom furnished (serviced?) flat for those three months. Even information about if they are hard to find or not? My company offered to help but it's not a sure thing that I will be placed prior to arrival and I don't want to live out of a hotel for longer than need be. Also, any advice on shipping a trunk of my things prior to flight? Are clothing and most other daily things easy to come by and affordable in Tunis? Thanks in advance for all of your worldly wisdom!

Le Bardo Visiting Information
Posted: Sun October 7, 2007 07:59 PM UTC
We visited the Bardo Museum 4 years ago when we were on a typical Day trip march through and spent 30 mins there. We are considering visiting Tunisia again for a week over the New Year.

We anticipate that the days we have to visit the museum would be 28 to 31 of December.
Can you advise the location of the museum and the opening hours?
Would we have time to have a good look round the museum and spend some time in Tunis?

We will probably be staying in Port El Kantaoui, would we be better driving or getting a train/Taxi?

Tunis Traditional diamond jewelry in Kairouan Medina
Posted: Thu September 20, 2007 04:39 PM UTC
Hi all,
This morning I saw some spectacular (and fairly costly) jewelry in the Kairouan souk that I was told by a Tunisian friend is of a type owned by all Tunisian families, and is an heirloom passed down from mother to daughter.

The jewelry was made of 9 carat yellow gold, and set with rough brownish diamonds.

Can anyone give me information about the jewelry I describe above?
Thanks so much,
LitDoc

Planning a tour to Tunisia mid April. What will the weather be like around that time. The tour will take us all around the country. What type of clothes should we pack? Does it get dark early in Tunisia in April? Just wondering how many hours of daylight we will have for sightseeing.

Thanks

Tunis Buying gold jewelry in Tunisia
Posted: Wed September 12, 2007 05:29 PM UTC
We are taking a tour to Tunisia in April. Where would be the best places to buy gold jewelry? We will be in Tunis and Sousse along with some other cities. I would like to buy from a reputable jeweler. Do they sell 14kt, 18kt or 22kt gold in Tunisia? Is gold a good buy there? Do they sell gold jewelry in the medina souks in Tunis?

Thanks
