Hi All,
I have only 3 days to spare for Tunisia. I arrive at 12:50am in wee hours of the morning (Sat, Mar 14) and depart on Mar 17. Photography is my hobby and i'm very interested in sampling good food. So can I have some suggestions please.
I was thinking of hanging around in Tunis (i've booked stay at Tunisia Palace) or skipping that and going to Sousse. For Sunday/Monday I was thinking of heading south to explore and have an overnight stay at Pansea Ksar Ghilane, or similar place that will give me a chance to see the Sahara and explore.
Is that realistic? I have no sense of how long the journey is between these places and don't want to be in a situation where travel back to Tunis for my flight on Tuesday morning will be difficult.
Looking forward to your feedback.
Anna

Hi!
Am planning a two-week long-distance walk in northern Tunisia. Does anyone know any nice routes / tracks / country roads between Tunis and Tabarka, or anywhere else in the north? I don't need picture-postcard moutain paths - just long-distance routes that avoid the main roads. If anyone has a mind to do something similar, or knows of anywhere nice to stay in rural locations, please let me know.
In case you are curious: since completing the Camino de Santiago walk (800 km in northern Spain) I have realised that there is no activity like walking for: peace of mind, general fitness & wellbeing, and to see and learn about new countries and cultures.

Hi!
My wife and I will be traveling to Tunisia 3/14. Tentatively we plan to take the train from Tunis to Tozeur. From Tozeur we want to go to Ksar Ghilane and then to Matmata and Tatouine before ending up in Djerba. From my estimate it will take around 6 to 8 days to see all the sites along that route including a short 1 day camel trek into the desert. Does that seem about right?
Does anyone know of any good tour operators or guides that can take us along that route? How much would that cost? I think I would be fine with someone just taking us to Ksar Ghilane and then dropping us off at Matmata or Tatouine. Should we try to reserve in advance or is it okay to wait until we get to Tozeur to find someone?
Many thanks in advance!

My husband and I are traveling to Tunisia for 4 days. We would like to see the areas with Roman ruins including Carthage, Dougga, Bulla Regia, and El Jem. Is it possible to see these places on day trips from Tunis? Which ones are the "must sees"? Are there local guides who can take us to these areas from Tunis? What is the best way to plan these trips? Do we need to book something before we go? Thanks!

I would like to take the train from La Goulette to Carthage, Sidi, and Tunis.
I arrive at La Goulette on the Noordam cruise ship. I need to know where to get dinar and where the TGM location is. Could someone please give me walking directions from the port to the ATM and to the TGM? Thank you very much - Ellen

I would like to travel from Marseille to Tunis and do it inexpensively. I've heard it is cheaper to fly but when I check websites the cheapest I can find is over 500 Euros. And I can't find an actual price for the ferries. I've been to the SNCM website but they won't give me a price. I'm becoming very frustrated.
I know Europe has cheap flights around Europe. Does that extend to North Africa? And if so, is it possible to get those cheap flights once I'm in France or do I need to book ahead to get the cheap price? Can someone help me out? Maybe tell me what price they paid to take the ferry to Tunis and how long ago that was that you paid that price so I can at least get an idea of how much this is going to cost me? And/or give me some idea of how to take advantage of these cheap European flights?
I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks!

Hi all!
I am planning a 45 days drive around all the countries in the Mediterrenean Sea next year starting and ending in Rome. I would like to ask anyone who is knowlegable about Tunisia if it's safe and possible to drive the Northern coast and how many days are needed to make it to the Lbyan Border. Does it take very long to cross the border?
Thanks and Happy Travel to all!

Hi everyone, has anybody out there been to Hammamat and needed hospital treatment ?, we are planning to go in August and have a child with a medical condition so always like to know what the local healthcare is like.
Secondly any recommendations for sites of historical interest nearby without having to go on extra excersions which bump the price up.
Lastly, hotel Fourati... any really recent visits and if so what is is like this year.
Thanks all

My wife and I are thinking of visiting Tunisia in 2009, but are a bit worried about food. My wife is allergic to the solanum family, which includes tomato, chili, capsicum (bell peppers), paprika, and even aubergine (eggplant).
I guess our main concern is whether we would have trouble explaining this to people in restaurants, cafes, shops, etc. We speak English and I have only intermediate French. Also, what is the chance that there would be nothing my wife can eat? (Previous travel to other countries has been disastrous, e.g. South Korea, where absolutely everything had at least a little chili in it and nobody spoke English at all!)

Hello VTers,
Need some help from people in Tunisia or former travellers to Tunisia.
I would like to know if you can recommend a reputable tour operator in Tunisia that is good and well priced. I am looking to book my trip directly with a Tunisian company, not US or European -- they are too expensive.
I have searched the internet for Tunisian based companies but do not come up with much at all.
Has anyone used a good Tunisian tour operator or travel company that they can recommend? I am looking to do a private tour of Tunisian for 16 days next year.
I want to book my trip in advance -- not upon arrival in Tunis.
Thanks for your help and recommendations.

I'm going to Tunisia in September 2-19 and I was thinking of sharing a car rental. This is because i have a big fear of problems with transport during ramadan. I'm kind of afraid about transportation to these places:
- Bizerte -> Dougga -> El Kef (sleep)
- El Kef -> Sbeitla -> Tozeur (sleep)
- Tozeur -> Tamerza, Nefta, -> Tozeur (sleep)
- Tozeur -> Douz -> Road to Matmata -> Ksar Ghilane (sleep)
- Ksar Ghilane -> Matmata (sleep)
- Matmata -> Tataouine (sleep)
- Tataouine, Ksars and villages -> Djerba (sleep)
I want to see Dougga and Sbeitla on my way to Kef and Tozeur. I think that here I won't have much problem with options but with time. The Kef -> Sbeitla -> Tozeur day is possible? I'm not interested in Gafsa, Kasserine...
Another fear of mine is the transport around Tozeur and Tataouine. Of course that I'll only get to ksar ghilane by car (correct me if I'm wrong), and I don't want to loose very much time going to tataouine having to go to gabès.
If I rent a car is easy to get someone there willing to share a car?
Thanks!

Hi,
we have just booked a 10-day vacation in Tunisia at the end of October. One thing I really want to do is a 3 or 4 day camel trek (w/ the option of riding the camel or walking) in the desert. Should we book the trip ahead of time, if so any recommendations, or go to Douz and find a trek there? A possible additional complication is that we are vegetarians so should we book ahead of time just to avoid going hungry on the trek?
The GoNomad-web page says that treks to Ksar Ghilane are not so nice because of all the 4x4 tours in the same area. Is this true? The prices quoted on the web page are also a lot less than what I've found on the internet for pre-bookable tours. What is a reasonable price for such a 3 day trek?
Many thanks for any info.

Hello,
We have a new client in Tunisia and since I take care of all of their French customers, they would like me to do Tunisia as well. I think our client is located in Ez Zahra, just outside Tunis, but I'm not sure if this is the actual site I will be going to, or just the corporate headquarters.
I do not think I will have time to do tourist stuff, I will mainly be at the hotel and on site at my client's. My two main issues are - is it safe for a young, blond American woman to travel alone in Tunisia? Someone has mentioned I may want to get a driver for while I'm there - does anyone have any idea about costs?
Secondly, how do men react in general to women in a position of power? I am a technician and will be going there to install a machine and then train the employees (almost all men). Will they have an issue with the fact that I'm a woman? I've had issues in the past with men in France because of this (but they eventually got over it).
Thanks in advance, and sorry if these are ignorant questions - I really don't know any thing about Tunisia!!

Need details on this crossing. We are American's with a rental car. Flying into Tunis and traveling down to cross the border into Libya- to fly out of Tripoli. Should we get a Visa before we leave or try and receive one at the border? I hear, no matter what, it's a couple hours to cross... which, what can you do.. however, anything to make it a bit easier.
Thanks.

Is it safe and sound to go by car around Tunisia?
From Tunis, to Kairouan, to Tozeur, to Gabes and Matmata, to Jerba. Then back to Sfax, to Mahdia, to Tunis (a total of 10 days).
Or do we have to hire a guide?
We are planning to go in Spring of 2009.
Thank you for any input, recommendations or suggestions.
