Tallinn Boat from Estonia to Stockholm?
Posted: Mon July 21, 2008 06:04 PM UTC
Hello all
I'm looking for cheap flights from Tallinn to Dublin but they are pretty much non existent.
I'm toying with the idea of getting a boat to Stockholm and flying home from there.
My questions are... is there a boat going to Stockholm and does it go to there from many locations in Estonia? Naturally i will be in Tallinn but it would be good to check out some other places too :)
Thanks everyone!

Tallinn Tallinn to Stockholm & Tallinn to Riga.
Posted: Tue July 8, 2008 06:44 PM UTC
Hi folks,

Hope this finds you all well. I'm going to be in Tallinn for the first time in mid-August. Will be arriving from Riga and leaving for Stockholm.

Coming in from Riga - does this have to be by bus or is there a rail connection?

And the ferry to Stockholm - it seems the cheapest way is to take a 4-berth cabin for around €140. There will be two of us, does anyone know if you can book the ferry any cheaper?

You can tell that I'm Scottish eh?

Will be grateful for any help,

Auldharry.

Tallinn One day in Tallinn during mid-Aug
Posted: Fri June 20, 2008 03:38 AM UTC
Hello folks,

So I am gonna get just one day in Tallinn during mid of August. I learnt that its not such a big town and I should be able to make it in a day. Easiest option I thought was taking a city ride bus. I found two -
City Tour - http://www.citytour.ee/index.php?id=426 and
City Sightseeing - http://www.citysightseeing.ee/index.asp

What I am not getting out of these two tours is, which one passes by more number of attractions and if they are worth it. I wish they could provide a map of places they pass by or something but couldn't find one.

City Tour gives some highlights on their different 'lines' but nothing by the City Sightseeing service.

Any comment from local VTer is most appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Tallinn Tartu. ... feasible day trip?
Posted: Sat June 7, 2008 08:47 PM UTC
I'll be in Tallinn in July. I've found the Estonian railway website, and quite fancy a daytrip to Tartu.

Is this feasible, do you think, or is is too much travelling for one day? And is there anything I should be wary of or know about beforehand?

How far is the railway station from the centre of Tartu?

thanks

Tallinn Getting around with a Pram and bad knees!
Posted: Tue May 13, 2008 11:57 PM UTC
Tere!

We've got a day in Tallinn in May. Looking forward to it very much!

The question is - we've read that Tallinn can be a bit difficult to walk around with cobbled streets and steep streets.

In our party, we have a someone with two bad knees - she thinks she can probably manage, but slowly. Just wondering what people who know the lay of the land (literally!) think? Is it worth organising a bus tour for her instead? Any suggestions? She is concerned about not being able to keep up with the other tour members if she joins an organised tour.

The other part of our party involves a pram (with 'all terrain' tyres, easy to push but weighing about 30kg loaded up with 2 kids!) - we're thinking that we should be able to manage the cobbled streets but wondered if Toompea Hill would be a bit too ambitious?

Thanks in advance!

Tallinn Tallinn to Helsinki Ferry
Posted: Tue May 13, 2008 06:20 PM UTC
Hi, I will be travelling from Tallinn to Helsinki by Ferry on June the 1st and returning the next day to Tallinn. I am looking for info on booking a ferry. I've looked at the ferry companies (Tallink etc.)webistes but they don't seem to let me book directly through the site.
My questions are;
Can I book my ferry beforehand?
Is it necessary to book the ferry or can I buy a ticket the day of travel in Tallinn?
What is the best (cheapest) ferry company (Doesn't have to be the fastest (2-3 hours sail time)
What should I expect to pay?
Thanks in advance

Tallinn Budget Accommodation
Posted: Wed April 2, 2008 09:07 AM UTC
Have went through a lot of hostels, a private room for two costs at least 50euro. Is the same price good enough for a stay in a hotel as well? Any hotel/hostel around the price could you recommend? The euro is 20% higher than the time I started planning for this trip.  Thanks.

Tallinn Where to buy knitting wool
Posted: Sat February 23, 2008 01:00 AM UTC
We will be in Tallinn for one day (a Wednesday) in August as part of a cruise. My wife is an expert knitter. We will, of course, visit the Sweater Wall, but she will be more interested in buying local yarn than buying finished products. Where would you suggest she look?

One day in Tallinn planned -- Royal Caribbean's Jewel of the Seas on Wednesday, August 6. My wife -- a master knitter -- will certainly want to take the time during our walking to see what Tallinn has to offer in the way of wool. Any suggestions of shops or neighborhoods?

Tallinn Coming to Tallinn for a weekend but also want to visit Riga - NEED HELP PLEASE ??
Posted: Fri February 8, 2008 12:11 PM UTC
Hi Guys,

I am looking to book a trip to Estonia (Tallinn and Riga) from London for a weekend Thursday to Sunday for me and two friends, all men.

I would like to know who would you recommend to fly with for the cheapest deals?

How to approach this weekend - where to go first and how long to stay?

We are all men up for drinking and having a laugh and mainly coming to party. So I guess where is the best nightlife and recommended to go ? and where to stay in Tallinn or Riga for what duration?

Also any places of accomodation that you can recommend that's not too expensive. I guess our Budget is Ģ200 each inc flights and hotel.

Look forward to yuor replies all help will be gratefully excepted as we have never been to Eastern europe.

Any Do's and Don'ts ?

Thanks in advance

Tallinn Bus from Riga to Tallinn
Posted: Tue October 23, 2007 07:30 PM UTC
Hello,
Is it necessary to book a bus from Riga to Tallinn in advance?
I had a look at the website of one bus company and there seemed to be only 2 services a day.
I'd the impression that there'd be an absolute rake of em every day.
Any advice on the matter will be much appreciated.

Tallinn Tips for shopping, little different kind of clothes and dog-products
Posted: Sat September 29, 2007 05:36 PM UTC
We are coming to Tallinn next weekend, and we have only 4-5 hours of"free-time"(itīs a sort of work-trip).We would know,is there a very big petshop near Stockman?Somebody told me that years ago,but I donīt know if itīs still there.
Also if you know some shops where we would find nice clothes. We like gothic-and rock-style,and I would also need something not so radical to work, but anyway like black long skirts and so on.In Finland there are only short skirts in shops now,and I hate them.I would also like to find new leather-handbag.We will have so little time there, that I donīt expect to find all of these, but it would be faster to find something,if we would know where to go.We are staying at hotel Viru, and we must be back there after that free-time,so we canīt go places witch you must go with bus-I think.
I tried many times to find that kind of shops with google, but all shops where only same ones than in Finland( we also buy sometimes from Seppälä and so on,but we have that here too,so why go there..)or then there was shops with very trendy and expensive clothes. And I found only one petshop, witch didnīt seem so big.maybe weīd like to buy something nice for our dogs... ;-)

Tallinn Quickest ferry crossing from Helsinki
Posted: Sun September 9, 2007 10:50 PM UTC
I am look for a quick ferry crossing from Helsinki to get to Tallinn on Saturday 22nd September - ideally leaving around 5pm - What can I expect to pay for such a crossing?

I have a one way ticket for the return leg on Finnair flying from Tallinn to Helsinki to get me directly back to Vantaa - this worked out cheaper than getting a boat from Tallinn to Helsinki and cab on to Vantaa...
