Canadians traveling to Mainz Posted: Sat February 14, 2009 04:18 PM UTC
My husband and I (both in our 60's) are planning a 6 day trip to Germany. We will be arriving in Frankfurt Aug.27 6:30am. We've been told the best place to start our visit to the Rhine is Mainz north. Also mentioned is Rudesheim. We wanted to stay at gasthaus-stahl.de,looks nice on the internet.
My question: Are these towns close,of course the thought of no speed limits interest my husband.(me not so much) Is it a good idea to rent a car or travel by bus and train. We are interested in wineries. My husband is not much of a walker
Also want to take a river cruise
Any help with setting up an itinerary would be of great help.

Time to kill in Mainz Posted: Wed January 14, 2009 05:49 PM UTC
I will be in Mainz for a birthday in early April and want to go to a couple of nice authentic German food places for lunch on the Sunday and Monday before flying back to England from Hahn.
I have a car and am looking for somewhere up to 45 minutes outside Mainz city preferably an old inn or something like that.
Any foodies out there with appetising ideas?

Baby shops in Mainz Posted: Mon October 20, 2008 10:33 AM UTC
To all moms in Mainz, maybe you can give me tips or suggestions where to buy things for newborn. I've been trying to find for Avent (BPA free) feeding bottles but to no avail. Is there any store or shop in Mainz or Frankfurt that sells this brand? The last time i went there, i saw an Apotheke, (but didn't get exactly the name) selling Avent but wasn't able to check what line of products are available. Thanks in advance!

Rhine River Boat Tours Posted: Sat June 21, 2008 06:57 PM UTC
I will be purchasing a German Rail Pass and I can use it for travelling on the KD rhine river boats. Do I need to make reservations or will I just have to take
a chance that the boat will be full. How busy are the boats during July? According to Rick Steves there's no need to make reservations as the boats are never full.

Hi, can anyone give feedback on the services, facilities and location of Contel Mainz? How far is it from the city center, old town, rhine river, park, etc.? Almost all affordable hotels are fully booked by October, and glad we found this in the internet.
What is the weather in October be? We will be there 1st of the month til around 3rd to 4th week..do we need to bring our winter clothes/heavy jackets?
Any shops where i can buy Berndes and other quality kitchenwares?
I heard that buying bus tickets by bulk is cheaper..so how do we do that and where do we buy it?

River Rhine Boat Trips Posted: Mon April 2, 2007 07:47 PM UTC
Can anyone tell me what company provides boat trips for the Rhine River region between Koblenz and Mainz, Germany. Do you have any suggestions? I will be in Brussels and have an extra day or two with nothing particular planned. Can I get there from Brussels and how would I get there? Is there a place to store luggage nearby?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Layover in Frankfurt Posted: Tue March 6, 2007 10:32 PM UTC
I am traveling with 12 high school students to South Africa. We have a 12 hour layover in Frankfurt in April from 10:50 a.m. until 10:40 p.m.. We heard that Mainz would be a good day trip. Can anyone give me any information about traveling to/from the Frankfurt airport, getting around Mainz once we are there, and things to see/do? Can we get a tour or train tickets set up in advance? Is that even necessary? Thanks.

Jobs in Mainz Posted: Sun April 16, 2006 08:07 PM UTC
Hi there,
Im thinking of moving to Mainz this summer and was wondering what the job situation is like?
Im a native English speaker but Im currently learning German and by the time I go I will have another month of German learnt. I would still class my level as 'beginnger' though.
I have an IT degree but I am willing to do ANYTHING to earn a little bit of money. I am doing a TEFL teaching course as well so I will be qualified to teach English but does anyone have any other ideas of what to do, or sites where jobs in the Mainz area will be advertised?
Any information would be appreciated!!!
Thanks
Ben

Nice and cheap places for dinner / Night view in Mainz Posted: Mon April 10, 2006 06:27 PM UTC
Hello everyone,
I will be doing a day trip to Mainz and Wiesbaden from Frankfurt. I am considering the sensible sequence to do it, either Mainz first or Wiesbaden first. Any opinion? It means I will be having my lunch at one place and dinner at the other city. Can you recommend a nice and cheap place to eat in Mainz? How about night view/activity in Mainz? Any suggestion is most welcome. Thanks a lot!

first visit to Germany - is it worth spending two days in Mainz and Frankfurt? Posted: Thu June 2, 2005 07:42 AM UTC
Hello,
I am planning to break my journey in Germany on my way back from a business trip to the US from India. I thought I would spend a couple of days in Frankfurt and one day in Mainz. I also am planning to travel to Sweden from Frankfurt.
I was looking at the fares on Ryan air and they seemed very reasonable.
My questions are:
1) How far is it from Frankfurt Am Main to Mainz?
2) How do I get from Frankfurt Am Main to Mainz? cost by Cab?
3) How far is it from Mainz to Frankfurt Hahn?
4) how I get from Mainz to Frankfurt Hahn? cost by taxicab?
5) is Ryan Air a good airline to travel on?
6) is it easy to make last minute cancellations on Ryan Air?

Storage for luggage- Rhine River (revised) Previous e-mail got cut. Posted: Wed April 20, 2005 05:15 AM UTC
Hello from Southern California! :) We are looking forward to our visit!
We will be traveling from Amsterdam to Frankfurt and, instead of going all the way to our hotel there, then coming back to Mainz; I was thinking it would make more sense to get off here, store our bags at the terminal then head off to the River for a cruise. That is if the ICE train stops here on the way to Frankfurt.
If so, is there a place where they can be stored safely? Or would it make more sense to get off before Mainz, at Koblenz for example, and take them on the boat with us? Is there storage for the luggage on the boats?
Thank you very much!
Mike
