Dubrovnik Dubrovnik boat trips
Posted: Sat May 17, 2008 10:44 AM UTC
I plan to walk the walls as early in the day as possible, but it will be on a Saturday. Would it be better (less crowded), to go late on Friday afternoon? What time do they open and close this month? If I went in the morning, would I have time after this to visit an island near Dubrovnik? How long would it take to get there? Alternatively, is there a short boat trip I could do to see the city from the water?

Thank you to all who have answered my previous questions about getting from the airport to my hotel.

Dalmatia - Zadar Region Female traveling on her own... is it safe?
Posted: Fri May 16, 2008 03:02 PM UTC
I'd like to visit Crotia traveling from the northern coast down to Dubrovnik over the course of 1 week. Is it safe for a female traveling on her own? Also, are the hostel options? I'm looking to budget travel.

Last ques, are there any bike tours (single day) or one week along the coast that offer budget pricing/accommodations?

Many thanks!!!

Dubrovnik Closest major airport to Dubronvic to fly back to NYC from?
Posted: Fri May 16, 2008 02:56 PM UTC
Hi all,

I will be touring the coast of Croatia starting from the north and ending in Dubrovnik. From there, I need a major airport to fly from back to NYC. I can get a relatively good price on Czech Airlines from Zagreb to NYC. What is the best (cheapest) way to get from Dubrovnik to Zagreb?

Alternatively, is there a better airport to fly to from Dubrnovnik for me to then fly from back to NYC?

Thanks!

Pula Bike hire
Posted: Wed May 14, 2008 10:14 AM UTC
Hi, I’m flying in to Pula for one week – late May. I’m planning to hire a mountainbike and travel around for my week – a night here a night there – that sort of thing. Most hire centres appear to be Hotels (which I may not be staying at). My question.
Can I hire a mountain bike from (from an independent agent) Palu – for the week?
Or alternatively, does anyone have experience of non residential bike hire from a local resort. Appreciate any advice on this or on my general itinerary. Beach, booze and windsurfing. Cheers

What is the best way to get from Dubrovnik airport to a hotel in the city? Is it better to take a bus or a taxi, and what is the approximate cost of each? Can I change euros to the local currency at the airport? Any other tips/advice would be appreciated.

Dubrovnik E-mail addresses for Guesthouses
Posted: Tue May 13, 2008 05:06 PM UTC
I have gone to the website http://www.hostelworld.com and found quite a number of places I would like to stay. Before I make a booking I'd like to find out if I could forward a package to the place before I arrive but I can't seem to contact any of the places. The brief list of places I've considered are
Kusalo Guesthouse
Bokun Guesthouse
Begovic Boarding House
Accomodation Maria
Marko Polo
Villa Klaic
S&C Guesthouse

Any of them would be fine if I just knew I could send this package. Anyone have an idea how to contact them? I tried to Google them but they don't seem to have web pages. Thanks. Michael

Croatia Trying to Travel to Goljak in Croatia
Posted: Tue May 13, 2008 05:34 AM UTC
Hi,

I'm travelling to Croatia this summer, and one of the places I wanted to go was a small village called Goljak. My mom's family is originally from there so I wanted to visit it and take a bunch of pictures for them as they haven't been back in a very long time.

So I guess my first question would be whether anybody has ever heard of it. If so, how would I get there and what is the easiest way to do so?

The only directions I have so far is that it's near Dragovajncak (or something like that) and that I could probably get there via Petrovina. My grandma also said something about Jastrebarsko.. not sure if that's the region or if it is a city near there.

Thanks for any help that anybody can give me!

Croatia Visit Split or Mostar
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 08:39 PM UTC
I will be driving down the coast from Rovinj to Dubrovnik. I am trying to decide if I should spend some time in Split or bypass Split and go visit Mostar instead. Time is an issue so I doubt that I could do both since I only have one day. Any suggestions on which would be better to visit. I was leaning towards Mostar since it is in a different country and I will also be visiting Dubrovnik.

Croatia Bicycling in Croatia
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 01:45 PM UTC
I'm planning to bicycle for around 3 weeks from Zagreb to Dubrovnik. I'd like to stop along the way for some hiking and kayaking. Does anyone have a suggested route or "must sees" along the way? Are there specific islands? Should I plan to ride the Istrian peninsula? What cities should I plan to stay in? Any information would be appreciated. I'm doing this as a sort of "low budget" credit card trip, no plans for camping. Thanks. Michael

What is the easiest way to get from Porec to Plitvice Lakes National Park in august? We would like to use the public transport and not rent a car. Is there a coach connection between Porec and Plitvice Lakes National Park and for how lond does the journey take and how much does it cost? Or does some local travel agency make trips to Plitvice from Porec?

Croatia Split to Budapest overnight train
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 04:55 AM UTC
Hello, I am looking for the cheapest most efficient way to travel from Split to Budapest on 23rd or 24th July 2008. It appears there is no Sky Europe flight on this route anymore - so I think the overnight train via Zagreb will be the best bet. Can anyone tell me any information regarding this train - timetables etc, total cost and also a cost for a double private sleeper cabin on the Split/Zagreb section. Also will we need to pre-book this or can we book when we get to Split the day prior?

Thank you.

If so, which bus terminal does this leave from in Zagreb and which terminal does it arrive at Biograd?

How much is a ticket and can i purchase online somehow? Or should i do this at the bus station?

I understand I can ship it with Hungarian Post but need an address to ship that will store it. I'm arriving in Budapest around June 1 and will be in Dubrovnik around July 1 for about 3-4 days. Does anyone have a suggestion where I might send this. The suitcase is just about empty. Thanks. Michael

Croatia Hotel Help!
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 09:22 AM UTC
My boyfriend and I are going to Zadar for 5 days in September but we're having problems finding hotels which are actualy IN Zadar...they all seem to be about 20km away which is a little inconvenient if you don't have a car!

Ideally we'd only like to book somewhere for the first night so we know we definitely have somewhere to stay, and then maybe wing it and try and find something cheaper/on an island after that...is this advisable??

We'd love to go out to Dugi Otok or another island...and we reckoned we'd be able to find accommodation when we got there...is that the case??

Croatia Help on towns and places to stay on the coast!
Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 08:56 PM UTC
Hi all,

Me and a friend are picking a car up in Zagreb late August and dropping it off 4 nights later in Dubrovnik. Now i have been to the big towns before - last year in fact and loved it so much am going back - i went to zadar, hvar and split. We are looking to stay in cheapish hotels as we wont have a tent (unless everyone advises it!) and are looking for somewhere big enough with a few bars and a place to have some of the wonderful fresh fish!

This time we are looking to go to typically croatian small towns or places with lovely coastlines etc. Now my plan was at present this:

1) Via Plitvice at lunch end up on the coast somewhere near Senj maybe as far down as Karlobag.
2) This day is just coastal roads! couple of swims etc! Aiming to stop off somewhere between Vodice and Trogir.
3) From here we are going to head to Mostar in bosnia for the night.
4) From mostar we will head back for the coast and stay somewhere between Ploce and Makarska which will allow an easy trip into dubrovnik!

So then people! Anywhere we should stay or avoid? Any more tips ould be great and much appreciated!

Croatia Ljubljana To Zadar transport
Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 12:51 PM UTC
Hi, I am planning on travelling from Ljubljana to Zadar in a couple of weeks. I have done a little research and have worked out we need to get a train to Zagreb, which is fine. I have also looked at a bust company called Contus which has several connections per day to Zadar.
My first question is, which train station is closest to the bus station in zagreb for this departure?
How long is the trip to Zadar from Zagreb with this bus. I am looking at a 10.30am departure?
Can i purchase the bus ticket prior to getting to Zagreb? If not is there much chance of the bus booking out in mid may? It will be a saturday.
Is there a better option to get from Ljubljana to Zagreb?

Any information would be great!
