Hi!
I'd like to visit Senegal next Easter. So I'm looking for a cheap flight. Any advice?
Appart from that:
how is the weather in April?
what is the best way of transportation inside the country? (going by myself)
Is the Casamance area safe?

thanks!

Dakar cruise ship stop in Dakar, April 24, 2008
Posted: Wed February 27, 2008 04:10 AM UTC
My husband and I are going on a cruise to Dakar. We only have a short time. 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Soumbedioune and a city tour is one suggestion. Or should we go to Il De Goree? I am a travel agent and I want to see as much as I can to be able to tell my clients all about it. Thanks so much.

Senegal Travelling to The Gambia.
Posted: Tue February 19, 2008 11:39 PM UTC
Hi, I and a friend are travelling to The Gambia within the next month. We would like to find out about accomodation as we want to move away from the coast. I heard of a site called africania which promotes sustainable tourism, but the site is now under construction. Does anybody know how to contact the people behind the site, such as an email?
We are also on a budget, would 150 pounds a week see us right? Also, we wanted to head north to Kaolack and maybe Dakar, what sort of travel times would be normal to Dakar via the cheapest or fastest possible mode of transport?
One other question, we've been looking for information on how to decide what to pay if asked for road tax. As it may happen that we might be left waiting until we pay, would travelling with a guide avoid this?

Its a bunch of questions and more might follow, but if your guys could answer even some of them, it would help alot.

Many thanks in advance.

:D.

Dakar Visit
Posted: Thu January 24, 2008 02:08 PM UTC
Planning to visit Dakar in early February on business. Just a few questions:

1. Any good hotel near the 'Sandaga' market area? An international chain hotel would be better.

2. Is Dakar a safe place? I'd travelled to East Africa (Kenya & Tanzania) last year and found that they were not very safe and we were adviced to be back in the hotel before dark.

3. What's the weather gonna be like in Feb?

Any help will be greatly apprecaited.

Thanks.

Senegal cancelled rally paris-dakar, terrorist threats
Posted: Sat January 5, 2008 09:19 AM UTC
the rally was sudenly cancelled due to terrorist threats they had received-as they say.
http://www.dakar.com/indexus.html
i guess that the anounced threats would aim more specifically to the rally event, but do you think this has to do with similar problems in senegal right now?
i'm planning to visit senegal and mali next month solo, and i worry a little about safety issues, especially because i'll travel indepentent and in budget.
any recent info would be very helpfull (i read the older similar postings here, too)
thanks

Senegal to Senegal in July
Posted: Sun April 1, 2007 12:46 PM UTC
I'll go to Senegal for one month vacationin July. My itinerary would be Dakar-Tambacounda-Bassari Country-Casamance-Cap Skiring-Dakar. I have some questions related.
-Anyone lived in Hotel Oceanic or Hotel Ganale in Dakar? Experiences? Or some other recommendations to stay in Dakar.
-Safety situation in Casamance at present?
-The best way to travel from Ziguinchor to Dakar? By road or by boat? How long
it takes? Anyone has experience?
-I'm an eager sportfisherman. Do you know any good charter operator in Dakar or
anywhere in Senegal?
I appreciate all tips and advices related to travelling in Senegal. Thank's in advance!

Dakar Transportation
Posted: Sun October 29, 2006 05:06 AM UTC
We're four students travelling to Dakar from New York City on a project for 1 week in March, 2007. I would be grateful if anyone can provide some estimate of how much airfare would be (orbits and other sites gave too great a range--$1400-$4000!) and how much we should expect to pay for taxis from airport to center city. Would it make better sense to rent a car during the trip since we'll need to get around each day?

Any tip would be appreciated!

Senegal Dakar to Mali for festival in the desert
Posted: Tue October 10, 2006 06:58 PM UTC
Hi - It's been my dream for the last few years to go to this festival. I'm packing in my job and going off travelling alone (inexperienced lone woman traveller!!) in west africa for 4 months - arriving in dakar on 27th Dec and leaving Accra on 17th April with Mali and who knows what in between. I'm meeting up with at least one guy from 3rd Jan who wants to do the festival, and another is just making his mind up. Previous plans were to go overland but they fell through. I've read about train and bus/taxi. Can anyone tell me how long it would take me to get to timbuktu from dakar? Festival starts 11th jan. Don't know yet how I'm getting to that. Wanted to do it independently rather than tour - but not sure how to do this. Would be glad of advice/tips and any extra company.

I am trying to find a tourism department of Senegal, anywhere in the world. I found one in the US but it seems as if they've closed shop as their website has dead links and their email has been shut down. Any suggestions where I could get information brochures?
