Travel buddy for Senegal and Mali November/December 2009 Posted: Tue September 15, 2009 09:42 AM UTC
I am looking for a travel buddy for an adventure trip from Dakar to Timbuktu and back, using train, bus and boat. It will take 4 weeks. The ideal time would be November 2009 but could also reach into December (I am rather felxible).
I will fly from South Africa, but we could meet in Dakar, so everybody is welcome. More details on request.

cruise ship stop in Dakar, April 24, 2008 Posted: Wed February 27, 2008 05:10 AM UTC
My husband and I are going on a cruise to Dakar. We only have a short time. 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Soumbedioune and a city tour is one suggestion. Or should we go to Il De Goree? I am a travel agent and I want to see as much as I can to be able to tell my clients all about it. Thanks so much.

Travelling to The Gambia. Posted: Wed February 20, 2008 12:39 AM UTC
Hi, I and a friend are travelling to The Gambia within the next month. We would like to find out about accomodation as we want to move away from the coast. I heard of a site called africania which promotes sustainable tourism, but the site is now under construction. Does anybody know how to contact the people behind the site, such as an email?
We are also on a budget, would 150 pounds a week see us right? Also, we wanted to head north to Kaolack and maybe Dakar, what sort of travel times would be normal to Dakar via the cheapest or fastest possible mode of transport?
One other question, we've been looking for information on how to decide what to pay if asked for road tax. As it may happen that we might be left waiting until we pay, would travelling with a guide avoid this?
Its a bunch of questions and more might follow, but if your guys could answer even some of them, it would help alot.
Many thanks in advance.
:D.

Visit Posted: Thu January 24, 2008 03:08 PM UTC
Planning to visit Dakar in early February on business. Just a few questions:
1. Any good hotel near the 'Sandaga' market area? An international chain hotel would be better.
2. Is Dakar a safe place? I'd travelled to East Africa (Kenya & Tanzania) last year and found that they were not very safe and we were adviced to be back in the hotel before dark.
3. What's the weather gonna be like in Feb?
Any help will be greatly apprecaited.
Thanks.

cancelled rally paris-dakar, terrorist threats Posted: Sat January 5, 2008 10:19 AM UTC
the rally was sudenly cancelled due to terrorist threats they had received-as they say.
http://www.dakar.com/indexus.html
i guess that the anounced threats would aim more specifically to the rally event, but do you think this has to do with similar problems in senegal right now?
i'm planning to visit senegal and mali next month solo, and i worry a little about safety issues, especially because i'll travel indepentent and in budget.
any recent info would be very helpfull (i read the older similar postings here, too)
thanks
