Dubrovnik Cruise port to Srdj hill
Posted: Sat October 31, 2009 01:40 PM UTC
Will be in Dubrovnik for about 8hrs on next Sunday... do plan to visit the city walls/old town by taking the bus into town from the port as directed by other forum members.

I came across some forum where people were raving about a visit to the Srdj hill... I hear the road up the hill is quite steep. I am guessing a taxi is the only safe option and how much would it cost from the old town and back to the cruise port?

thanks for your help and suggestions,

Dubrovnik St. Francis of Assisi and the Franciscan Church in Dubrovnik
Posted: Thu September 17, 2009 08:36 AM UTC
I Heard a legend about the Franciscan Church in Dubrovnik, that it has been built in accordance with the wishes of St. Francis himself who earlier sailed
along the Adriatic Coast and his ship has been destroyed by the storm, was saved, and he spent the night (or sometime) in Dubrovnik.

Is there truth to it?

Dubrovnik Arriving in Dubrovnik from Split
Posted: Mon September 14, 2009 07:53 AM UTC
Hi all, I just wanted to know what are the options of getting to Dubrovnik from Spit.

Which would be the most economical?
Which would be the fastest and also, the slowest (trying to avoid the slow one, if it takes too long).
From the station (bus or train), is it easy to get to the Old Town?

I've read about Villa Flora and Bokun as recommended as some of the affordable places to stay in Dubrovnik (40Euros per night). Can anyone else recommend a place within the same range (just in case both are already full). Somewhere in the Old Town would be perfect.

Thank you all for the help!

Dubrovnik which route?
Posted: Wed August 26, 2009 07:24 AM UTC
I'm driving from Dubrovnik to Mostar in late October.

I had planned to drive up the coast via Neum amd then take the E73 inland.

However, viaMichelin recommends going via Trebinje and Gacko. Looks longer to me, plus the road from Gacko to Mostar is lower grade than the others.

I know the Neum route will involve 3 border crossings as opposed to 1 on the Gacko road, so maybe that's the explanation.

Any thoughts or experiences out there?

Dubrovnik Currency
Posted: Mon August 17, 2009 08:35 AM UTC
Hi,

Would like to know what currency (euro or croatian kuna) is preferred in the area?

Also recommendations for a couple of day trips out. We are staying in Cavtat 20th September for a week and will visit Dubrovnik a couple of times I think. But would also like a couple of day excursions too.

How often do the buses run between Cavtat and Dunbrovnik?

thanks for any help

Dubrovnik airport car rental
Posted: Mon August 17, 2009 07:36 AM UTC
I'm going to be renting a car at the airport in October - to visit Mostar & Kotor as well as Dubrovnik area.

Anyone have any positive or negative experiences to share in relation to the rental companies which operate at the airport?

I know I'll need a certificate of insurance for the border crossings and a St Christopher for the Mostar road. Any other tips about the borders?

Hi guys,

My boyfriend and I are heading to Dubrovnik and are looking for a cool apartment with sea view and balcony or outdoor space within 30 minutes of old town. We really love boutique style hotels so if anyone has stayed in a similar style apartment it would be fab if you could let me know or of the best links to look at booking somewhere for September.

Dubrovnik Dubrovnik/Cavtat to Budva transport?
Posted: Sun July 26, 2009 09:36 PM UTC
Hi, I will be flying to Dubrovnik Airport on Sunday 9th August, and will be looking to reach Budva for a weeks holiday before returning to Dubrovnik Airport on the Sunday 16th August.

Please could anyone advise on the travel links? I was under the impression there were regular bus journeys between Dubrovnik and Budva, but now it appears they are not as regular, and possibly not running at all on Sunday. Would there be any trains / buses running from either the airport, Cavtat, or Dubrovnik to Budva on the Sunday? And returning the following Sunday?

If so, should we book ahead?

Many thanks for any help.

For information, our plane arrives at Dubrovnik airport at 17:00, so we are hard pushed to get to Budva. The return departs the airport at 18:00 so more time on the 2nd Sunday to get back to the airport.

Dubrovnik Recommendation of day tour companies for cruiseship traveler
Posted: Fri July 17, 2009 03:19 PM UTC
In September, my friends are planning to take a Holland American line with following excursions. It seems the cruiseline arranged tours are filled, can anyone recommend good/reliable day tour (that could take you from the dock, tour and back to dock?).

The place interested is Dubrovnik. We know the dock is not too far from the walled historic town. It would be a 30 minutes walk but a short taxi ride (10 minutes?). Is there any good day tour company picking them up from the cruise ship, have a tour of Dubrovnik etc then take them back to the cruise ship? How much would this cost?

If you have any day tour company recommendation for places below also, it would be very helpful:
The places are:
- Athens (from dock Pireas)
- Corfu
- Katakolon

- Ephesus, Turkey
- Messina Sicily, Italy

Thanks in advance for any help!

Dubrovnik Who wants to explore MONTENEGRO with me on August?
Posted: Sat May 30, 2009 01:16 PM UTC
Hello folks,

I am wondering if there is anyone out there who might be interested in a travel companion for Montenegro in August?

Montenegro is a perfect compact country for nature lovers and for hiking.
If we'll be 2-4 people we can rent a car. Anyway I'm flexible, hitch-hiking is an option.
Locals' companion is more than welcomed.

Hi,

we are going for a weekend break in dubrovnik and we are wondering if it is worth hiring a car or scooters for the weekend or use public transport. Is parking bad for scooters too?>

We are hoping to stay in a cheaper hostel outside the walled city and wish to see the coast / islands in this time.

Dubrovnik Dilemma - Where to stay?
Posted: Thu May 7, 2009 07:11 AM UTC
Hi,

I will be going to Dubrovnik on vacation in September for 11 days. After reading some guide books, and searching the web, I still do not know where to stay! There is a conspicuous lack of budget accommodations in Dubrovnik. Everything seems to be expensive and way overrated!

Is it recommended to stay in the Lapad area? Is it really far from the Old Town?
Any comments about Hotel LaPad and Hotel Zagreb? Are any of these hotels worth staying?

What is the best way to get to this area from the DBV airport? Are the bus lines reliable?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I look forward to hearing from someone soon,

Thanks a million,

Dubrovnik Bus Fare and Spot for Lunch
Posted: Wed May 6, 2009 02:58 PM UTC
We are some of those cruisers who ask "What to do in 5 hours in Dubrovnik?" This site has many suggestions and answers to that question, but I do have 2 others:
1. Will we be able to pay for the tram or bus in euros? If not, is there an ATM where we can get the local currency?

2. Would someone be kind enough to recommend a non-touristy cafe for us?

Thanks so much, Marilyn

Dubrovnik Transport to/from Valamar Lacroma Resort
Posted: Tue April 21, 2009 08:59 AM UTC
Hello,

Me and a friend are visiting Dubrovnik in July, and are considering staying at the Valamar Lacroma Resort (located on Iva Dulcica 34), however, we are a little worried about transport to and from the town itself, as the resort appears to be located a fair bit outside of town and we would like to see the town as well during our vacation. :)

So the question is, is there any buses running from this area to central Dubrovnik? How much would they cost and how frequently do they run?

How much, approximately, would it cost to catch a cab for this distance? (It's supposed to be about 6 km, although I'm sure any locals will know better than I whether that is correct or not.)

Any help much appreciated!

/Anna.

Dubrovnik Private accomodation in old town or within 2 minute walk
Posted: Sat March 28, 2009 04:17 AM UTC
Hi,
Myself and my boyfriend will be in Dubrovnik for 4 nights in August. I'd like to book a room in a home. Can anyone recommend a clean home either within the walls of the old town or within a 2 minute walk to the old town. We would prefer our own bathroom and air con since it is usually very hot in August.

Thanks
