The Government of Mozambique is making Pemba look like a paradise through their advertisements, yet it is not very popular, Why ?
1. Is it because, airline connections are poor? 2. Is personal safety the issue? 3. The facilities are not adequate? 4. Is it the language barrier ? 5. Or any other reason ? Tryguru |

| Mozambique | Zimbabwe to Mozambique Itinerary Help Posted: Tue March 11, 2008 06:46 AM UTC
Hi All,
I'm currently in Zimbabwe, spending time near Mutoko, Zimbabwe. I'm looking to spend two or more weeks on the Mozambique coastline in May. Does anyone have any advice on where to spend that period (Biera seems the likely starting point) and how to get there? All I'm looking for is nice beaches and quiet settings without spending too much cash. Is it possible to rent a car and beach hop from Biera? Oh and my Portuguese is minimal... Thanks, adam |

| Maputo | johannesburg-maputo Posted: Sat February 16, 2008 11:04 PM UTC
Hi,
I would like to know if there's a bus service (instead of the train) from Johannesburg to Maputo and, if yes: 1. where I can get it (directly from the airport?) 2. where I can find a timetable 3. there can be problems at the border with the police, even if on a public transport. Moreover, I read in a reply to the two sisters that it takes only two hours to reach the border. I was told there should be 7 hours in total Johannesburg- maputo. So it means that it takes 5 hours from the border to Maputo? Thanks a lot. Silvia |

| Mozambique | Can we hire a car from the Vilanculos/Bazaruto area? Posted: Thu October 11, 2007 11:20 PM UTC
We want to fly into Bazaruto and hire a car from this area and to drive to the Kruger National Park and then on to Johannesburg. I can not find anywhere online that rents cars around Vilanculos/Bazaruto. Can anyone advise if it is possible to rent a car and also if we would be able to drop it off in South Africa? Does anyone know how wong it would take to drive to the SA border?
Thanks Fritz |

| Mozambique | Scuba Instructors travelling Moz by 4 x 4 Posted: Wed May 9, 2007 07:46 PM UTC
Myself and three of my friends, all of which experianced scuba instructor's will be travelling through South Africa probably from cape town north through mozambique starting this october through may possibly. We were thinking about buying a used 4 x 4 or two for our travels. I was wondering what anyone thought about travelling this way through these countries versus public transportation. Are roof tents safe in these countries if you stay out of the cities? Do you get a huge discount or pay more to get into the game parks with your own vehicle vs. paying a guide company? Is it easy to find backpackers etc. to share the expenses to give them rides? Where would diving be most recommended, as well as what game parks or parts of them are the best? Would it be possible to teach freelance instruction in either country, as we can teach new divers anywhere we have swimming pool like conditions as well as experianced divers more advanced diving as long as we can do a shore dive into open water or hire a boat? Any suggestions about any of these ideas or interest in joining our crusades let me know. I am just starting to do research now, so any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thank You, Topher

| Provincia de Cabo Delgado | Tanzania-Mozambique border Posted: Sun April 22, 2007 07:24 PM UTC
I am planning to head south from Tanzania into Mozambique by the Mtwara border crossing in June. Is there a regular ferry across the river at that point? I've heard you have to wade across! Is it deep, dangerous? How are the roads in Cabo Delgado (and southernb Tanzania) at that time of year? Passable, possible, impossible? And the local transport?
Any advice, suggestions most welcome. El Bairdo |

| Mozambique | Chapas; Jo'Burg to Maputo Posted: Sun April 1, 2007 03:04 AM UTC
I arrive in Jo'Burg on a Saturday morning around 9,00 and would definitely miss the morning buses ... and no PM bus on Intercape. So, I was alternatively thinking of taking the evening train to the Moz border and then taking a chapa. What do people think of this route? Is the visa easy to get at the train station crossing? How much does it take on a chapa from border to Maputo? Are they easy to find? How long does it take? Finally, is the evening train safe with luggage?
Thanks, A. |

| Mozambique | Cash in Mozambique Posted: Wed March 21, 2007 10:35 PM UTC
Hi - I'm planning a trip in August, and have seen differing advice about how to take money. An older guide says credit cards are of little use and recommends travellers cheques. However, the bank most likely to change these was about to merge with another. A newer guide says travellers cheques are a non-starter, and recommends taking cash, tucked away in multiple hidden pockets. (with credit card as back-up)
Could anyone advise based on recent experience? (I do not have a credit card, so would have to obtain one - have used travellers cheques successfully in a range of other locations) Many thanks, Thor |

| Mozambique | going to mozambique Posted: Mon February 19, 2007 09:03 PM UTC
Hi, I am planning a honeymoon for my fiance and I (both live in the UK) in the first 2 weeks of July. She lived in Mozambique for 3 years when she was younger (during the civil war). We have both done a fair bit of backpacking and neither of us is into exclusive big resorts with no atmosphere. We are keen to do a bit of diving/relaxing on the beach as well as getting a feel for the atmosphere of the country. Just wondered if anyone who knows Mozambique had any recommendations as to where to go. Thanks
