Hi I have five weeks to explore Morocco and am thinking of heading into Mauritius and maybe Tunisia. I am a solo travler. Is it easy in terms of transport and visa stuff to get into Mauritius? To be honest I never heard of the country until a few days ago when I bothered to look at a map...now i am intrigued. Is it cheaper then Morocco?

hi guys i was thinkin of south africa then seychelles/maldives/mauritis for honeymoon middle of aug next year but im worried bout the weather because i hear its winter in these places. my fiance and i really like the heat (ie loved eqypt and thailand in july and las vegas, all high 30's 40's) are we going to be really disappointed? are we better considering dubai, or where else?? any help appreciated

anyways, i've been reading VT forums for quite a while now and found the info very useful (my and friends heeded a lot of the VT advice whilst on our virgin trip to Phuket earlier this year!).

me & my fiance are planning to visit Mauritius for our honeymoon in Apr 09. we checked wt a local tour agent and found out that Grand Baie is the ideal spot for us. i have a couple of questions though:
1) We are two nightlifers so we are looking for a place that has pubs/clubs.
2) My fiance loves diving so is diving recommended in Mauritius? Our local tour agent seggested the Northern part of Mauritius.
3) Is April 09 a good time to go Mauritius?
4) any recommended hotels in Grand Baie area?i've heard of Merville Beach & Legends.

A lot of people worry when they got to Mauritius half board that their drinks are going to be really expensive, especially at Belle Mare Plage.

Belle Mare Plage are trying these drinks prices out on trial until the end of August. Lets hope they decide to keep them!

This area has also been revised and several commonly ordered drinks have been reviewed namely:

Beers from Euro 4.5 to Euro 2.8 (not bad really!)
Squeezed juice from Euro 4 to Euro 3
Coke from Euro 3 to Euro 2
Crystal water from Euro 3.5 to Euro 1.8
Imported Sparkling water from Euro 5.5 to Euro 4.5
Hot beverages from Euro 3 to Euro 2.5
Cocktails from Euro 8.5 to Euro 6.75 (this would be the one where I spent the most cash... they make incredible Mojitos at Belle Mare :D)

Also in regards to the wine menus a larger selection of wines in between Euro 19 to Euro 23 has been introduced. Wine per glasses has also been reviewed from Euro 6 to Euro 4.

Hope that give people advice who were worrying about breaking the bank :)

I hope you can help me. I'm from Australia and will be visiting Mauritius in September / October. I arrive 28th September and leave 4th October. My sister is getting married. All I need is spending money to cover me for general shopping, souvenirs etc. How much would be a reasonable amount to bring with me? I'm obviously very unfamiliar with the currency over there so am unsure whether I will be bringing enough or not enough. Might I point out that accommodation and food are already covered, I'm talking about FUN MONEY!! Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Hi I am travelling to mauritius for a week starting July 20th.
Anyone can guide me on these things...

1. Hows the weather likely to be around Trou Aux Biches .. I am staying at Coralia Mont Choisy..
2. My package includes a trip to Ile Aux Cerfs.. should I plan my scuba diving for this place or do it separately and any idea of how much does it cost for a basic trip along with equipment.. It would be my first scuba dive and so would be the case for my wife.. Is it cheaper to do it at some other place as I guess Ile Aux Cerfs would be touristy?
3. Is Trou Aux Biches a good place for snorkelling/kayaking?
4. Besides, chamarel, the garden and the lake anything else(I am not too religious so temples and churches are not my kinda place) to see in terms of natural marvels??
5. What would be a good place to eat lunch-- around troux aux biches.. ?not lukg at fancy restaurants but good food.. say sm veggies, sm chicken, sm seafood.. any special mauritian food.. a must try.. how about desserts?
6. What is the most hunted for souveneirs at mauritius?

I hear it opened on June 1st. I have a reservation there next year and am very excited.

What is the beach like?
Is the water rough?
Is there good snorkeling off the beach?
How is the area where it is located?

My fiance and I are planning to go to Mauritius for our honeymoon in March next year for two weeks. We would love to stay at one of the two Beachcomber resorts at Le Morne (we have been told this is the place for great windsurfing - my fiance loves windsurfing)but they are too expensive.

So we are now back at the drawing board and need some suggestions. Can anyone suggest some beauitful resorts on the west coast? We still want luxury but without paying a fortune :)

Also, do many people hire cars on the island? If so how much is the average price of a 1 day car hire? What about diving and other extras like swimming with dolphins? We just need to know how much we can afford to spend on accommodation whilst still having enough money to enjoy ourselves.

Finally, we were thinking of maybe sailing for a few days. Has anyone done this from Mauritious?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I got a quotation for a car hire for 2 weeks for about 22o euros , wich is pretty good I think. However, the company seems to be an internet company and I don´t know about their reliability. Hi there! Me and a friend of mine is going to visit Mauritius for our first time, we are going to be there 3 weeks (may 18th to june 10th).

1. The first question I have is if enyone knows something about "Villas mont choisy" - is it a good place to stay?
2. How much am I supposed to pay a taxidriver that takes us from the airport to "Villas mont choisy" (located within the beach)
3. We have plans going on a dolphin-tour, what agency can offer us the best deal?
4. We want to do some half - or whole -day excursions, is there any reliable taxicompany that someone can recommend, and how much do they expect go get i cash?
5. Is it a good idéa to change money in both euros and rupies? (is it necesarry to have both?)
6. Want to visit Isle aux cerfs, can we take a bus from "mont choisy" or does the agencys have taxi-transfers included in the prices?
7. Give me more tips please (pamplemousses botanical garden, waterfalls etc)
8. Maybe someone is going to stay nearby villas mont choisy from 18th of may to 16th of june? If so, maybe we can arrange trips together? (decreases the cost)

Well, This is less of a question and more of a comment...

The 'Mauritius' forum seems to be very quiet. Where is everybody.

I asked aquestion and had replies from travellers/ tourists mostly. I am quite thankful for the replies but where are the locals gone...the Creoles, Indians, French....

Hopefully people will be here soon and I can catch some Sega ( I hope my spelling) music. I remember being there in 1999 and that time a hugely popular local sega rock star had just died. I did manage to get back some of his music though..

We are arriving on 12th June and will be staying for a week. We are scheduled to stay at Mont Choisy , Hotel Corollia.

a) How is the weather likely to be.

b) In addition to a pre planned tour, we also have 3 free days. As we want to visit places on our own, what should be the preferred mode of transport. Public buses if not too crowded ??? Taxis , how much they charge etc. ??

I have been to Mauritius earlier, but that was in 1999.

My husband and I are thinking of staying at the Heritage Golf and Spa Resort in Bel Ombre next year and I was wondering if anyone knows of any reliable taxi drivers that we could hire for excursions around the island.




I would prefer to do half day trips rather than full day ones if possible as I have a back problem and find full day trips hard going.




Is it possible to get to visit the Botanical Garden of Pamplemousses from here as a half day trip?




Could we also get to visit Ile Aux Cerfs for a couple of hours on another half day tour?




Would it be possible to visit Chamarel Falls and the Coloured Earth by taxi without having to walk too far?




Any information would be really helpful.

Hi - currently planning our honeymoon in August and am considering Mauritius. However I'm aware its their mid winter. Whilst we are not necessarily after hot hot weather we would of course like the option of lazing by the pool or on the beach and taking part in the various water sports. Is this realistic in August...would prefer to rain any significant rainfall too. Which parts of the island are warmest this time of year? Anywhere best avoided? Currently considering the heritage resort which i think is on the south side.

Would also be interested in any recommended tours and excursions on the island.

I am taking my husband to Mauritius for his birthday in March 2008 - how do I go about choosing a nice 4-star and above hotel? which side of island is best at that time of year? We are looking for a beach holiday with a little bit of shopping thrown in...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

We hope to come to Mauritius in mid May (2 adults, a five year old and 18 month old) and I would be very grateful for any suggestions as to which hotel to choose as there seems to be a great choice- North, East, West, South??? they alll seem to have there pros and cons!

I think a beautiful beach location with calm sea and good snorkelling from the hotel is the priority as well as a great pool.

We would like a bit of luxury without going too overboard. A kids club would be nice as our son loves to be with other children but I don't envisage him spending more than a couple of hours there a day at the most.

I don't think we want to be somewhere too built-up and like to be able to go for nice walks etc. We are prepared to hire a car.

We love good food, particularly seafood.

The hotel would ideally have rooms/suites suitable for four. We are happy to sleep in two double beds.

Would the East coast be chilly/windy in May?
