I will be travelling to Mombasa with my boyfriend in December and I was wondering if you could tell me what the best hotel to stay in is? I want to be on a nice beach with good facilities. I was looking at the diani reef hotel or nyali beach hotel? Any suggestions on the best one? or any other one?

Hi folks, a friend of mine and his family plan to stay in Mombasa beaches in augusut. I did recommend an apartment becuase i had a good deal some years back at $500 a month in July, a low season of course. An not sure if this hotel (fisherman's in) is still available. Tried to reach but no avail.

Can any one advise us a decent appartment-hotel with this price or so in August.

I'm travelling to Mombasa in June/July to do some volunteer work, but there is only one thing, i am TERRIFIED of spiders.

Could anyone tell me what the spider situation is like out there? Like am i likely to see them on a daily basis! im scared of even the tiny ones in england so this is a very big step for me.

I've heard all sorts or rumours about many of them, just want to see if anyone can give me a 'heads up' on what to expect.

I am looking for a nice, but lower priced hotel near the beach, either in Mombasa or somewhere along the coast nearby. Any recommendations would be GREATLY appreciated!!

My friend and I are doing a Mt. Kilimanjaro safari in January and will finish in Arusha. We would then like to go to Mombasa. We would like any recommendations for the best way to get from Aruha or Moshi to Mombasa. The means of transportation, the company name and aprox. cost would be appreciated.

Could any one suggest any "gifts" I could take, bearing in mind weight allowances.
I have heard stories of tourists who at some point meet up with

Hi visiting Mombasa next year , we will be going on a safari, not sure exactly where
does any one know which parks apart for Masai Mara, operate " baloon flights" ??

We are a young couple travelling to mombasa in December for a week. We are scheduled to stay at the plaza beach hotel. have a few questions hope someone will be able to help.

1. Is it a nice hotel and most importantly, whats the beach its on like?
2. We'd love to do all kinds of sea activities (not the safaris). I heard its cheaper to use the beach boys. (how much should we budget for, for snorkelling, boat rides etc.
3.Food!!! looking forward to alot of good seafood, we're from a landlocked country, where all we mostly eat is beef.What good, cheap seafood reastaurants can we visit that are in close proximity to the hotel.

Finally on a one week trip (half board basis) how much cash do you reckon we'll need to take along.

I am travelling to Kenya / Tanzania in a week and now that I have planned the route, I have few questions:

1. What is the best option to travel from Nairobi to Mombasa? Bus or plane?
If bus, how much time does it take and how much does is cost?

As I intend to spend a day in Mombasa, then I plan to go to a 2 days safari in Tzavo or Amboseli and after that to Dar Es Salaam.

2. Can I book a safari while I am in Mombasa? If yes, do you have any suggestions for a reliable local operator?

3. What is the best option to travel from Mombasa to Dar Es Salaam? Bus or plane, how much time and how much money?

We are visiting next july for 2 weeks. We want to go on a 2 day safari to masia mara etc but also want to either visit zazibar for the day and night or go into tanzania to see mt kilimanjaro. I know you can view from kenya but would really love to go into tanzania too. Which is best safari? Masai Mara, Ambolesi? How best to book? Local would be good as i prefer my money to go to local people and not big UK holiday companies who rip off the locals.

Anyone know of inexpensive lodging in Lamu, ie. private hom, expats, etc. I've stayed at the Casuarina before but I am looking for a private house (all I need is a room really) with privacy. I am an artist looking for a place to stay to paint. I'd be staying one month probably in November 2007.

Hi all just wondering if anyone has done a package that includes safari first before going to hotel. Been told to take two different suitcases (or similar) as when we get to airport our cases will be going to the hotel and us and smaller holdalls go straight to safari. Seems a bit weird that we dont go to hotel until after safari - and hopefully meet up with our cases! thanks everyone Denise

Can anyone provide details on the 3 night Ndogo safari, do we have to buy Mozzie nets etc. Also is it true that the hotel make you checked out of your room for the duration of the safari (Sounds a bit of a rip off)
Also can you reccomend the best currency / currencies to take, I have heard KSHG, US$, £ & Euro as I would buy before flying. LAst one, did you have a good time at the resort.

If so would you be able to tell me how long i would need at the farm - i want to see the feed at 5pm, so wondering what time i should get there before?

I was going to book the Ndogo 3 night superior safari. Have been told to do the 2 night instead, as you don't see much more on the last day. Has anyone done either of these, and what do you think? Should I book this as a package, or wait and book it with the beach boys? Also, I'll have my children with me (ages 12 & 15) - has anyone any experience of safaris with children of these ages, and what did they think of it?

hey we have been looking around for the perfect safari package and we have found a 3 day safari to masai mara which includes accomodation at the fig tree camp(2nghts) has anyone stayed here? any info would be great. also my girlfriend wants to know how hot it wil be around the beginning of august a tan is a must. cheers
