Charleroi overnight in Charleroi?
Posted: Sat November 7, 2009 07:49 PM UTC
Hi all,

I've seen somebody mentioning staying overnight at Charleroi - is it possible? A few years ago I was told the airport closes at night so I can't stay there.
Now, I'll fly from Charleroi to Dublin on a Monday morning, so can I go to the airport on Sunday evening and take my flight on Monday morning or will I be kicked out in the evening?
Also how safe is Charleroi (I've stayed in Schiphol for overnight, it was alright, but it's one of the biggest in Europe)? As much as an airport can be - is there security at night, anything open 24/7 to grab a coffee maybe?

Thanks a lot!

Brugge Bike rental logistics
Posted: Mon November 2, 2009 05:02 AM UTC
Looking at possibly renting a bike in Brugge around May. I have seen the tourist site and these VT pages with all the info on where to rent the bike. However, how about ...

- How do you lock the bike when you stop to see something ... do they provide a lock and chain?

- Is there threft insurance on the bikes?

Should I just rent the bike to take a ride around and walk to do the rest of sight seeing (if this question makes sense) - that is, just use the bikes to go around the farther areas. Not sure how to safeguard the bike if I stop for a bite to eat or take some photos.

Brussels New Years 2010 Brussels
Posted: Fri October 23, 2009 10:01 AM UTC
Hi there,

Myself, my boyfriend and a few friends of ours are going to Brussels for new years. Have you any tips on where to go night life wise? We're in our mid twenties.

Is the airport far from the main centre?

Where would you recommend accomodation wise / restaurant wise?

Thanks a million!

Brussels Brussels VT Meeting possibilities
Posted: Wed October 21, 2009 11:12 AM UTC
Hi All,

I used to be active on VT (took a long break) and back again. I live in Brussels now - wondering if we have enough people (or interest) in organizing a VT meet (somewhere in the city center).

We can either do it before the holidays or after...just starting the thought process.

Cheers

Brugge Romantic Brugge?
Posted: Sat October 10, 2009 11:30 PM UTC
Hi,

So, this trip is going to be the most special one of all so I need some local info. First, where would be the most romantic part of Brugge to stay in? Second, a good romantic restaurant to have a special dinner in? Third, would anybody be able to recommend some place to go to that is really romantic, preferably quiet, in Brugge?

All ideas and replies will be greatly appreciated.

Antwerp A good store/supermarket to buy beer.
Posted: Wed October 7, 2009 06:52 PM UTC
Hey,

Does anybody know of any stores/supermarkets near the city center (that's where we are staying) where I can buy beer? I still plan to go to bars, but why pay higher prices for certain brands when I can buy them in supermarkets. I like trying different beers and that could get expensive after a while. So since I'll be in Belgium I'd like to try as many beers as I can, expecially the ones that are not available in United States.

Brussels Things to do around Christmas
Posted: Wed October 7, 2009 06:32 PM UTC
Hey.

We will be arriving to Brussels on Dec. 2nd and staying until Dec. 6th. I was just wondering, other than the huge Christmas Market that begins in November, are there any other Christmas related things to do around the city? I've tried looking, but for the most part I get information regarding the big Christmas Market in Brussels. We will also be in Antwerp from 6th to 9th (leaving to Amsterdam morning of the 9th). Maybe somebody knows a website with a list of events/things to do for December because I'm cannot find anything. I usually travel in Spring/Summer, so going places in December is new to me, so I am trying to get the most out of European Christmas experience this December.

Thanks for any help

Gent Traveling to Gent by Eurostar
Posted: Tue September 29, 2009 07:21 PM UTC
Hi all,
I'm travelling to Gent by Eurostar from london in a couple of weeks and have 2 questions regarding my journey:

1) I understand I have to change trains at Brussels (I think) - is it then obvious which platform to go to for the Gent Train?

2) I am staying at a hotel on Waaistraat. I see it is quite a long walk from the station so was thinking of getting a taxi (there are 4 of us) however, someone has suggested we could take the tram - is this much cheaper, and how will i know which one to get?

Any tips would be much appreciated - thanks! :)

Gent Rec needed for budget Gent hotel

Could I please have your recommendations for a budget hotel or bed and breakfast in Gent? Under 75 euros is preferred. A basic place is fine, but I'd like a place centrally located with convenient access to the train station. Thanks.

Antwerp moving to Antwerpen
Posted: Fri September 18, 2009 03:18 PM UTC
Hello! My name is Debora, currently living in the US.We will be moving to Antwerpen in the next few months, and since I have a daughter who will go to the AIS (American school) would like to know how far is Antwerper from Ekeren (where the school is located). What is the best area to live in Antwerpen (when the school is still a not too far..).
Considering I am italian and I love food (cannot live without my pasta, bread, salame, prosciutto..) is there any italian market? any shop where I can buy my stuff?
Culturally is Antwerpen alive, with galleries, theaters, cinemas...?
Are there some languages school where I can study Dutch? (like inlingua...etc..).
I am fluent in english, french, little bit of Deutch.
would love some informations.Thanks debora

Belgium Buying train tickets
Posted: Tue September 15, 2009 11:27 AM UTC
I have been looking for info on buying train tickets in Belgium, but there are some things I'm unsure about, so I thought I'd ask here. :)

I'm going by train from Brussels to Brugge and then a few days later to Luxembourg. I read that ticket machines only accept Belgian credit cards, is this correct? Is it possible to pay with coins or notes instead? If I buy from the counter, is there an extra fee?

It seems that the train fare from Brugge to Luxembourg is fixed and that it's fine to just show up at the station on my journey day to buy a ticket - is this correct?

Thanks in advance!

Brugge Thinking about Fondue....
Posted: Fri September 11, 2009 10:25 PM UTC
Hi everyone, i'm looking for some foody advice.

Some friends and myself are off to Brugge next month and really want to try some Fondue. I have searched online and most websites don't have a English Language option so i'm struggling.
Has anyone had Fondue in Brugge? Where can you recommend? Is it possible to get a vegetarian Fondue option? and around how much did you pay? (for just fondue or set meal)
I managed to find some prices but couldn't work out if that was the price for two people sharing or the price per person (if it was per person then it was very expensive!)

Also while i'm here, can anyone recommend a good/cheap italian restaurant in Brugge?

Thank you so much for any advice offered :)
