Munich What to see around the Munich Hauptbahnhof?
Posted: Wed July 29, 2009 09:13 PM UTC
We're transitting through Munich airport in August and after deducting time for all the airport formalities on arrival and departure + time to and from the Munich Hauptbahnhof, we're left with about an hour and a half-2 hours for a bit of sightseeing.
So what could we see in the close vicinity of the Hauptbahnhof or some other S-Bahn station?
Thanks.

Munich Where to stay if going on Tour early from Karstadt Dept. Store
Posted: Mon July 27, 2009 12:58 AM UTC
I have two hotels booked at the moment in Munich and need to cancel one. One near the Marienplatz and one near the Center of Munich close to the Main Station Hauptbahnhof. I am wondering which would be the closer hotel to catch an early morning Tour that departs across from the Karstadt Dept. Store on Bahnhofpl. 7?

Munich Planning to take a train from Munich to Salzburg - do I need to take passport with me?
Posted: Thu July 23, 2009 04:13 AM UTC
Hi,

Since I am bit paranoid about the chance of losing my most important travel document I wanted to confirm (considering the almost open borders between Germany and Austria): If I take a train from Munich to Salzburg, do I need to take my US passport with me? Do they check the passport on this route?

Would the US driver's license be sufficient (in case they just check for an ID to match with the name on the ticket)?

Thank you!

Munich Train or Car from Munich Airport to Berchtesgaden
Posted: Thu July 23, 2009 01:50 AM UTC
I'm arriving at Munich airport on a Monday in August. My concern is making it to a tour at 1:15 P.M.in Berchtesgaden. The plane is supposed to arrive at 9:00 A.M. but only has a 42% on time rating. What gives me the best chance of making it in time. Renting a car at the airport and driving or taking a direct train from the airport, if that is possible?

Munich Over night train Munich or Salzburg to Brussels or Paris
Posted: Thu July 16, 2009 07:49 PM UTC
I've been trying to find a direct over night train from Munich or Salzburg to Brussels or Paris leaving the night of August 25th. I've searched myself and my travel agent says she can't find one either, but that I probably could find one once I'm there in country. Is this true? I'd hate to find out once I'm there that this is not possible.
Thanks in advance

Munich Please recommend some good and reasonable priced restaurants with traditional food in Munich
Posted: Wed July 15, 2009 10:03 PM UTC
Hi,

I am going to Munich for a few days with my wife in September. I am going to ask the question that I am sure many people are asking: I am looking for some nice and reasonably priced restaurants not too far from the city center or in Schwabing that serve local (Bavarian/German/Austrian) food. I am not a big beer drinker, so the quality or selection of beer is not an important consideration for me.

When I say reasonably priced, I am not talking about fast food. Just want to avoid very pricey/fancy/touristy places and visit the restaurants where the locals go to have lunch or dinner.

Can you recommend any good good web sites that have independent reviews of Munich restaurants?

Munich Augsburg, Würzburg or Regensburg?
Posted: Tue July 7, 2009 09:33 PM UTC
If you were to travel to one of these 3 cities, which one would you
choose and why?
- Augsburg
- Würzburg
- Regensburg

I am planning a 1-day trip from Munich via high-speed train and would
like to choose 1 beautiful city from the above 3. I already planned
trips to some other places in Germany including Rothenburg. That's why
I came up with the above list, since I have 1 more day to devote to a trip outside of the city.

Thanks!

Munich Nice areas/neighborhoods to visit in Munich
Posted: Sun July 5, 2009 06:17 PM UTC
Hello,

I will be visiting Munich in early September with my wife (we're in our early 30s). I am curious to know about nice/interesting and lively neighborhoods in Munich where one can see cute stores, cozy cafes, decent restaurants, and feel the life of a typical Munich resident outside of the tourist traps of the old city center.

Also, because we are planning several 1-day trips, we will have a lot of evenings to spend in Munich (staying near the main rail station) within 15-min walk from Marienplatz. So I am curious to know of good areas to go to in the evening (don't care that much about dance clubs, but want to visit lively areas where people hang out in the evening).

As a New Yorker....there is something called Happy Hour where one can get cheap beer and food for unbelievable prices. It is usually before the dinner rush hour. Something like 5-7. Is there such a thing in Munich? I would like to find a non touristy spot. Thank you!!!

Posted: Mon June 29, 2009 10:46 AM UTC
I've been taking the U6 to Sendlinger Tor and changing to the U1. This commute can take up to 40 minutes! I see lots of trams and busses around. Is there anything faster? Thank you!

What kind of area is Rotkreuzplatz? I see lots of restaurants. Are they good.

Munich What is the best way to see the city?
Posted: Fri June 26, 2009 01:04 AM UTC
Me and my husband are going to be in Munich for about 10 hours, on our way back home from Greece. I was wondering if somebody can suggest me the best way to make use of that time visiting some of the places in Munich. Is the hop-on-hop-off a good option?

Thanks.

Hello :)

On Aug 4th I am flying to Munich and this will be my first trip to Europe. My mom and I are going.

I was just wondering if any of you wonderful people may have some tips on cheap trips we can take. I would love to take at least one day trip to other cities, but cost will of course be a factor.

Any tips about this that as well as any other useful info will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for you time!

Happy travelling!

Munich Which train ticket to buy from airport & to use rest of week in Munich
Posted: Tue June 16, 2009 01:50 PM UTC
I went on the official website and there were a dizzying array of ticket types, zones etc. I would like to travel by using the most economical local transportation.

I arrive on a Friday at Munich Airport and will stay with a friend at the Westin at Arabellastr. 6

Every day, including the day I arrive...I would like to go to yoga at Leonrodstr. 6

I leave the following Friday. (on Sunday we are moving to the Renaissance Hotel at Theodor-Dombart-Strasse 4 if it makes a difference in zoning)

Please advise. I am very confused as to what to buy since the week pass is from Monday-Monday.

Thank you so much in advance!

Munich credit card accepted in MVV?
Posted: Thu May 21, 2009 05:45 AM UTC
Folks, what kind of credit card does MVV (public transport) accept? Does it accept the, should i say regular or american type cards, the one with long magnetic strip along the length of the card? I vaguely remember that some places accepted only the credit cards with microchip, the one with thumb size imprint on the left side. May be things have changed or my memory is getting weaker :).
Thanks.

Munich Subway clarification
Posted: Mon May 18, 2009 05:46 PM UTC
Hi
i went to the ubahn/sbahn official website and there are so many ticket types, different ticket prices for different zones, tickets to go one way but no return ticket,etc,etc.. so not sure what is best to buy ( dont want to buy a million single trip tickets)! So my itinery is:

Arrive at munich airport- take luftansa bus to central station. then take subway to hotel (Nordfriedhof stop which i am assuming is not walkable from central bus station with luggage..)

After i check into hotel, go back into town ( to Marienplaz area)

Next day go to Dachau and then on way back go to residenz and then go back to hotel, then come back into town for dinner and if time take subway to another stop somewhere in munich to explore neighborhoods. Then come back to hotel.

Next day check out of hotel and take subay to the Welt to get my car.

So how many tickets do i need, can i get a multi ticket ? Is Dachau same ticket type as local inter city munich tickets?
Thanks!

Hi everyone,

We are planning to come to Munich to attend a wedding in August. There will be 5 of us (me, my husband, 5-month baby and my parents). We would like to rent a condo for 5 days if possible. Do you know of any agencies or any owners doing it directly (web sites would help!)?

Thank you!

Munich Oktoberfest- cheaper accomodations further away?
Posted: Fri April 24, 2009 01:47 PM UTC
Turns out we'll be in Oktoberfest for the beginning of Oktoberfest. It would be great to spend a day there with all the activities... but the other two days we wanted to see the Neuschwanstein castle and see the BMW factories etc...

Is it possible to stay somewhere a little further? The hotels are going for a small fortune due to Oktoberfest.
