Hi,

A group of 8 of us has booked travel and accomodation in Munich for Oktoberfest on the weekend of 3-5th October.

All of the tents seem to be fully booked. For any of you who have been before I would love to know:

- can you can queue up for tickets?
- are there tent ticket touts and are the prices ridiculous?
- are there any tents that you can get in without a ticket?

We are considering cancelling our flights if we aren't going to be able to get in anywhere, would be like a kid with nose prossed up against sweetie shop if we can't get in there, but all REALLY want to go.

Any tips most appreciated.

hi all.i arrive at F J strauss airport terminal 2 at about 6pm 29/06/2008 and want to travel imediately or early the neext morning to vienna via a eurorail ticket.
is there a easy waty to get from the airport to vienna station-how long a trip cos i am concerned about arriving in vienaa quite late and then looking for train/hotel, or a train from the airport to a hotel near a train station close by and then back to the train station to get a train to vienna the next morning.My first time to the area.any ideas,recommendations will be appreciated.thanks.ammtaq

Myself and some other esteemed Gents have arranged to head up to the start of Oktoberfest for a few nights via Zurich. The primary objective will be the drink ,hence all we are really looking for is somewhere to sleep when the tents, pubs and clubs are closed.

Can anyone recommend a campsite or cheap hostel?


Also, anyone know how long it takes to get from Zurich to Munich by train?

I'm looking for lodging for 4 adults from Mon September 22nd 2008 to Wed September 24th 2008 (3 nights, check out on Thurs the 25th).

We are looking for a 3 bedroom house/apartment/condo that can sleep at least 5. I've tried many of the internet sites (vrbo.com, homeaway.com, etc) but am unable to find accomodations.

I have a 40 minutes connection in Munich Franz Strauss airport, flight Moscow – Munich – Nice, arrival and departure terminal 2. As I can well spend an hour queuing for Schengen passport control what is the chance that I miss the connection flight?

I several questions.

We're looking for a reasonably priced hotel (150 euros max per night) near Munich Airport as we have an early flight the next morning. A hotel with a decent restaurant which serves very late meals would be a huge bonus.

Also what would be the best way to get from Munich train station to this hotel? Taxi? Shuttle? We would arriving after 9.30pm.

There are 4 of us that will be attending Oktoberfest on Sept 23rd & Sept 24th. Reservations at most beer tents are quickly filling up, and require 6-10 people (depends on the beer tent). Also, all evening reservations are full.

My questions are as follows:

1. Does anyone have room for 4 in an evening reservation?
2. Does anyone know how I can get a reservation for an evening?
3. What are the best tents to go to?

What a beautiful city with friendly people. We were very impressed with the transportation system. We even took trains to Salzburg for a day and also to Neuschwanstein. We also did a four hour bike tour which was in English. That was a lot of fun! We spent a lot of time at the Market and saw Nymphenburg Castle and the Olympicpark among other things.

I will be in Munich for work for three days startng this Saturday, when I am on my own till evening.
I want to visit both Dachau and Viktualienmarkt. But considering I will be located in Schwabing and arrive at my hotel only by 12-12.30 will i be possible to isit both the places, also because its a Saturday.
I was wanting to go to Dachau first and try my luck to catch the 1.30 pm guided tour which will get over by 3.30 or so. Will the market be open at that time of the day?
Please suggest a feasible plan.
Also, how much wud a cab to Dachau cost, approximately?

I am traveling from Munich to Prague and want to take the overnight train. I have heard it is cheap to take a Bayern train to the border and then continue on to Prague. Is this true? Should I buy my ticket in advance or can I wait till I am there?

What is the cheapest train fare roundtrip from Munich to Prague?

I am trying to take the City Night Line Train 318 from Munich to Amsterdam the night of April 26. However, I cannot for the LIFE of me figure out how to buy or reserve a ticket! It's horrible. One site keeps refusing my credit card, while the other one I found won't let me book a single ticket! As of right now, I have a plane ticket from Barcelona to Munich, and nothing more. Help!

I am arriving in Munich on a Saturday in the end of April at 11.10 by Lufthansa. I will be staying at Renaissance Munich in Schwabing and just have the first half of the day free.
1. How can I reach Dachau camp from my hotel? How long will it take?
2. Is it possible to reach Dachau camp by 1 pm from Schwabing. I want to be there for the individual guided tour.
3. Pls suggest some activities around the hotel.
4. Is there any departmental store closeby that maybe open in the evening on Saturday?

I'll be in Munich in the end of April-beginning May and will be staying at Arabella Sheraton Grand Hotel on Arabellastr and have a flight for Mumbai at 6 am. Guessing that I'll have to reach the airport by 4 am, how can I reach the airport?
1. Can I get a train at around 3-3.30 am. How far is the station from the hotel and would it be safe for a single woman to travel at that hour?
2. If I consider getting a cab, how much will it cost?
3. Do u think it's a better idea for me to reach the airport around 11pm the previous night to avoid all problems?

A group of us are going to italy for vacation next month. My daughter and her friend are staying on after we come home. They will go to Munich for a few days from venice
then will return to Rome to fly back to USA.
Should they book train reservations from Venice-Munich-Rome before we leave or should they do that when we arrive in Italy. what would be the best and most economical way for them to do this?

so i am living in venice and i would like to go by train but i want to arrive during the day light
to find a good located hotel thinking to stay like for 3 days

Hi I read news that there is strik in Berlin, Is it carrying on in MUnich? I will go there on 18 Mar. I worry about transportation there.

What is the approximate price of train from Frankfurt to Munich? I guess it is cheaper by train than plane. I guess slower trains are cheaper than fast ones. Can I get one ticket from the airport in Frankfurt all the way to Munich? HS.

will be in Munich for a few weeks from late April. Planning on daytrip to Oberammergau,Ettal,Linderhof either Sunday 27th or May1 via public transport. I can get to Oberammergau by 820am by train, but 1st bus to Linderhof doesnt go until 1020, arriving 11am. I've heard Linderhof gets very busy mid morning to mid afternoon, so trying to find a way to get there earlier & then explore Ettal & Oberammergau on the way back. Anyone know if possible to get a taxi one way from Oberammergau to Linderhof & what it would cost or any other alternatives.

I am a woman in her 60's traveling alone in Dec. 2007. I would like to take some day trips out of Munich. Would prefer non-stop but 1 easy stop would be OK. Any suggestions? I will already have spent 4 days in Salzburg. Is Innsbruk or Bertchesgaden (sp?) a possibility. Thank you.
