Will be in Munich from Sept 1 to Sept 5. It appears that I can purchase a group pass for entire network(including transortation from airport to downtown hotel) for three days. What do I do since I will be there 4 days?

Does Munich have Happy Hour? Posted: Mon June 29, 2009 12:41 PM UTC
As a New Yorker....there is something called Happy Hour where one can get cheap beer and food for unbelievable prices. It is usually before the dinner rush hour. Something like 5-7. Is there such a thing in Munich? I would like to find a non touristy spot. Thank you!!!

My daily commuting from Nordfriedhof to Rotkreuzplatz - is there an easier way? Posted: Mon June 29, 2009 09:46 AM UTC
I've been taking the U6 to Sendlinger Tor and changing to the U1. This commute can take up to 40 minutes! I see lots of trams and busses around. Is there anything faster? Thank you!
What kind of area is Rotkreuzplatz? I see lots of restaurants. Are they good.

What is the best way to see the city? Posted: Fri June 26, 2009 12:04 AM UTC
Me and my husband are going to be in Munich for about 10 hours, on our way back home from Greece. I was wondering if somebody can suggest me the best way to make use of that time visiting some of the places in Munich. Is the hop-on-hop-off a good option?
Thanks.

First time in Europe Posted: Sun June 21, 2009 03:47 AM UTC
Hello :)
On Aug 4th I am flying to Munich and this will be my first trip to Europe. My mom and I are going.
I was just wondering if any of you wonderful people may have some tips on cheap trips we can take. I would love to take at least one day trip to other cities, but cost will of course be a factor.
Any tips about this that as well as any other useful info will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much for you time!
Happy travelling!
:)

Which train ticket to buy from airport & to use rest of week in Munich Posted: Tue June 16, 2009 12:50 PM UTC
I went on the official website and there were a dizzying array of ticket types, zones etc. I would like to travel by using the most economical local transportation.
I arrive on a Friday at Munich Airport and will stay with a friend at the Westin at Arabellastr. 6
Every day, including the day I arrive...I would like to go to yoga at Leonrodstr. 6
I leave the following Friday. (on Sunday we are moving to the Renaissance Hotel at Theodor-Dombart-Strasse 4 if it makes a difference in zoning)
Please advise. I am very confused as to what to buy since the week pass is from Monday-Monday.
Thank you so much in advance!

Hi Guys,
I am looking for a hotel in Munich, I need something close to the U Bahn Marienplatz - can someone tell me how close Marienplatz is to the main train station in Munich?
Can I get a hotel near the Hauptbahnhof and walk to Marienplatz ?
If not, can anyone recommend a good, reasonably priced hotel near Marienplatz ?
Thanks a lot!

credit card accepted in MVV? Posted: Thu May 21, 2009 04:45 AM UTC
Folks, what kind of credit card does MVV (public transport) accept? Does it accept the, should i say regular or american type cards, the one with long magnetic strip along the length of the card? I vaguely remember that some places accepted only the credit cards with microchip, the one with thumb size imprint on the left side. May be things have changed or my memory is getting weaker :).
Thanks.

Subway clarification Posted: Mon May 18, 2009 04:46 PM UTC
Hi
i went to the ubahn/sbahn official website and there are so many ticket types, different ticket prices for different zones, tickets to go one way but no return ticket,etc,etc.. so not sure what is best to buy ( dont want to buy a million single trip tickets)! So my itinery is:
Arrive at munich airport- take luftansa bus to central station. then take subway to hotel (Nordfriedhof stop which i am assuming is not walkable from central bus station with luggage..)
After i check into hotel, go back into town ( to Marienplaz area)
Next day go to Dachau and then on way back go to residenz and then go back to hotel, then come back into town for dinner and if time take subway to another stop somewhere in munich to explore neighborhoods. Then come back to hotel.
Next day check out of hotel and take subay to the Welt to get my car.
So how many tickets do i need, can i get a multi ticket ? Is Dachau same ticket type as local inter city munich tickets?
Thanks!

Accomodations in Munich in August (condo preferably) Posted: Thu May 7, 2009 05:56 PM UTC
Hi everyone,
We are planning to come to Munich to attend a wedding in August. There will be 5 of us (me, my husband, 5-month baby and my parents). We would like to rent a condo for 5 days if possible. Do you know of any agencies or any owners doing it directly (web sites would help!)?
Thank you!

Munich to Prague Posted: Wed April 29, 2009 01:24 AM UTC
We plan to visit Prague for 3 or 4 days out of Munich. What is the best mode of transportation? Time is an issue, so I'm thinking of driving unless the train is faster? Bus? Flying? Any input is appreciated. Thanks

Oktoberfest- cheaper accomodations further away? Posted: Fri April 24, 2009 12:47 PM UTC
Turns out we'll be in Oktoberfest for the beginning of Oktoberfest. It would be great to spend a day there with all the activities... but the other two days we wanted to see the Neuschwanstein castle and see the BMW factories etc...
Is it possible to stay somewhere a little further? The hotels are going for a small fortune due to Oktoberfest.

Any tips on transpo to/from airport and also the best place to hang for 3-4 hours?
I have bags that will be checked and I am a US citizen (not on travel visa).

2 nights in Munich / Neuschwanstein Posted: Fri April 17, 2009 12:44 AM UTC
Hello,
My wife and I will be visiting Munich from May 12 - May 14. We intend to do a city tour with Mike's Bike Tours on May 12 and then plan to visit the Neuschwanstein Palace on May 13. Does this sound like too much? Would you recommend Schloss Nymphenburg over Neuschwanstein?
While looking for tickets to Fussen on the bahn.de site, I noticed that there are no trains to Fussen from Kaufbeuren, but only bus service for May 13. Is there another way to get to Fussen by train?
I also looked at the palace's website, www.neuschwanstein.de. The site mentions that the castle can be visited only as part of a guided tour. I'm assuming they mean only the entry into the castle, and not the entire trip to the castle?
The website also states:
You can book the ticket for your guided tour in advance (one day before the desired castle visit at the latest) at the external link Ticketcenter Hohenschwangau.
Is this necessary or can I buy tickets at the castle itself on the day of and be assigned to a guided tour for entry?
My last question is about the Vi Vadi hotel - reviews and proximity to the Hbf? Is air-conditioning required in mid-May?
Thank you very much.

Bike security in Munich Posted: Thu April 16, 2009 04:08 AM UTC
I'll be visiting Munich. I read about biking around Munich. I really want to try. I'll be staying near the main train station and thinking of renting a bike for one day and paddle to English Garden, Olympic Park and Nymphenburg Palace. Is it doable in one day? Any suggestion as to what route (roads) to take?
And I want to visit the palace while at Nymphenburg. How can I secure the bike? Would the rental place provide the lock? Is it safe to leave the bike on the street?
Also, how long does it take to bike from Hauptbahnhof to Dachau (the concentration camp)? Any bike trail to go there?
Thanks,
Raymond

Rent a Car? Bring a Stroller? Posted: Fri April 10, 2009 09:14 PM UTC
Hi - my family will be in Munich at the end of may and plan to tour around for 3.5 days before driving up to Frankfurt to attend a wedding. We have 2 kids (3yr old and 6month old) and my 73 y/o father with us. I have not planned our itinerary (reading up on different places to visit). A few questions I have -
1) is it better to rent the car when we arrive and drive around Munich while we are there or easier to use the public transportation while going around Munich and nearby places then rent the car when we are ready to leave for Frankfurt? Is parking easy to find and reasonable in cost?
2) are the tourist places stroller friendly? I am thinking of bringing our double stroller but it is quite big.
Thanks!

Sites to See Posted: Mon March 23, 2009 12:39 AM UTC
I am spending three nights in Munich the first week of May to kick off my 17 day trip. I haven't really firmed up what I want to see other than Dachau and trying to weasel my way into the Bayern Munich game. I would appreciate any suggestions of interesting sites to see. I hear Mike's Bike Tours gives a good tour.

Transportation from the airport Posted: Mon March 23, 2009 12:36 AM UTC
I will be staying at the Europäischer Hof Hotel which they say is close to the main train station in Munich. If I am flying into the airport on Lufthansa what is the best train routing to get to the hotel? Or would you recommend another way into the city?

Any hotel can check me in at 6 am? Posted: Sat March 21, 2009 06:29 PM UTC
I will be coming from a North American flight and I was wondering if hotels near the Munich international airport can check me in by 6am anyone? I know in Spain they are liberal about any time checkin as long as it's not in August/September high season. I also know in North America they are less liberal to this policy, and in Italy they never have the room ready unless you know someone there or bargain to go only if they have it ready. Any help on Munich?
Thanks.
