Hi,
Has anyone done the trip along the coast from Cote D'Ivoire to Togo.

Which is the best way to do it and what is the distance, also how long would it take, for instance by bus.

Many thanks.

Raykey.

Hi,
I want my son-in-law to visit me in Jamaica, but every time he goes to apply for a transit visa for one of the countries that he needs to go through he is always refused a visa which is quite frustrating for us.
I recently found out that Delta Airlines has flights from Ghana to Jamaica but there is a stopover in Atlanta for either 15:08 or for about 6 hrs depending on the flight chosen.Would he need a transit visa for any of these flights? I need advise please.

I plan to visit Accra, Ghana, for one week in July,2010. So far, I'm overwhlemed with selecting a reputable travel service to book my flight&hotel reservations. For example, on one hand, most online travel agencies(expedia for example) assert that they can save you around $400.00, if you book both flight & hotel reservations with them, which their package comes to,approximately, $2,700.

But , when I separately research a R.T. flight through expedia for $1,600(taxes &fees included),then consider the hotel, "Airport View Hotel," at $90.00 per day, for five nights($450.00usd), I save $650.00.

Therefore, please give me details at how some of you booked your trip to Ghana, even if you bought into a tour package. Also, did you get a refundable ticket in case you would have to cancel for some reason?

Thanks,
Moe

Hi everyone --
I'm a volunteer based in Winneba who had planned a trip to the north (Tamale, Mole, Bolgatanga, Paga) for next week, but my travel buddy just got malaria. I'm looking for anyone interested in making such a trip, and can go anytime before May 3. E-mail me at daniellez03@gmail.com. Thanks!

With only 3 1/2 days in Ghana, what should I do? I'll be arriving by boat to Tema. Mole Nat'l Park looks fabulous, but I'm concerned about travel time. Virtual Travelers, I need advice! thanks.

Hi,
I've never been out of Europe before, so don't really know how visas and things work, but I'm off to Ghana in the summer. I want to know if it is best to buy the flight ticket or the visa first? On the visa form there is a box for 'ticket number' and they also want to know the date of departure, which I guess depends on the ticket I get, however I suppose I would prefer to get the visa first just in case there is an issue, so I don't lose money on the flight. That said, I wouldn't want to get turned down for not having filled in the ticket number. Any ideas? What do people generally tend to do first?
Many thanks.

Are there retail stores like Victoria Secrets or Harrods in Accra?

If not, are there stores like these that have access to gift cards that can be purchased internationally; perhaps, Chicago, Illinois, USA?

Thank you, this would be for Valentine's Day, so time is of the essence, Mr. T.

I've read through some of the other questions about visas on arrival for Ghana, but I was wondering for a bt of clarification.

Here's my situation:

I'm Canadian but have been travelling around the world for the last 15 months. Therefore getti a visa for Ghana before leaving home was out of the question. I'm in South Africa now and naively trusted the LonleyPlanet Guide too much. It said getting a visa here was easy so I didn't check into it soon enoug. Stupid mistake on my part, but there's nothing I can do about it now.

I finally got ahold of the High Commision here, and, as others have posted about other High Commisions, they won't issue one unless I'm a resdent.

So...that leaves me with attempting a visa on arrival.

Anyone know if it is possible with a Canadian visa? (i.e. - from a country where there is a Ghana High Commision) Also, what, exactly will I need? I'm just going as a tourist. How have others gotten invitations as tourists?

Will try phoning the embassy here back and asking this question, but they are hard to get ahold of so I thought I'd ask here as well.

Thanks in advance!

Festivals in February

I hope someone here knows the dates for one or more of the following festivals

1. Dzawuwu Festival of Agave-Ewes
2. Papa Festival in Kumawu (not far from Kumasi)
3. Royal Akwasidae (held every six weeks) in Kumasi

I'd like to attend one of them but haven't been able to dig up specific dates which makes planning somewhat difficult.

Thanks a lot /Jesper

hi all,
i will be traveling to ghana from december 15 to 22, and it's my first time as a solo female traveler. after reading some scary stuff about taxi drivers, i am getting anxious about the trip! i was planning on doing everything on my own, but am now considering going through a tour company instead. i am looking for any advice about safety as a woman traveling alone, as well as any recommendations for possible tour operators. thanks so much!

p.s. if anyone is going to be in ghana then and is looking for a buddy, please let me know!

Does anyone know of any prepaid calling cards that charge no hidden fees and gives you the announced minutes? Basically, if they say you have 20 minutes you get 20 minutes no matter what! No matter if you hang up or lose connection. What prepaid calling card services do you use to call Ghana, be it an online service or a physical phone card?

Hi everyone,
my husband and I would like to go to Ghana some time in the European winter and are looking for accommodation near Cape Coast for approx. 5 nights. It should be a laid-back place with rooms or chalet type-of-things, have a beach where you can swim, and not cost too much (it's crazy how expensive some resorts in Ghana are!) but not be shabby and dirty either.
We've googled all over the place but nothing has convinced us really so far :-(
I would welcome any first-hand recommendation with contact details of the hostel/hotel/guesthouse/...

Hi!
I will be in Nigeria for work in June and after reading about Ghana I really would like to visit it. The problem is that I won't be able to sort the visa in advance so I am wondering if any of you know if the visa can be sorted in the Airport.

All the information I have found is from http://www.ghana.gov.gh/ghana_visa_regulations_entry_requirements

ii. Ghana Entry Visa may be issued on arrival if the Director of Immigration has prior notification from travellers or their sponsors.

Applications must be made to:
Director Of Immigration
Ghana Immigration Service
Private Mail Bag
Ministries Post Office-Accra
Tel: 00233-21-221667 / 225321 / 224445
Fax 00233-21-226996

Has any of you any experience about with this Director of inmigration office?
Any help/advice will be much appreciated

Thanks!!

I have just been to the travel clinic to get my yellow fever vaccination for a trip to Ghana in 2 weeks. I was set to receive antimalarial drugs as well. But now I am confused. The dr. said that Larium is known to cause bad dreams and horrible side effects, he recommended I stay away from it. He advised doxycycline or Malarone. Both also have side effects. Does anyone have advice on the best and most effective drug with the least side effects? I don't want to spend my 3 week vacation having nightmares!!! Thank you
