Sarajevo Christmas
Posted: Sun August 9, 2009 08:14 AM UTC
I'm looking for somewhere to spend a few days away over Christmas. I was in Sarajevo last month and liked it. Anyone have any recent experience of being there midwinter?

I know it will be cold, I know the airport has fog problems in winter, and I know it hosted the Winter Olympics in the 80s.

Also interested in hearing from anyone who has been skiing there recently - my teenage son skis and might come with me if that's an option for him.

Sarajevo Looking for Belgrade to Sarajevo itinerary ideas!
Posted: Mon February 9, 2009 06:27 AM UTC
Hi, a friend and I (two over-40 females) plan to rent a car in Belgrade, see as many interesting things as possible, and return the car 10 days later in Sarajevo. We don't care at all about partying or night life. We're interested in history and meeting & talking to people. Let me hear your itinerary ideas (where, how many days, how many hours driving, etc)! Much thanks, Jan

Can anyone tell me when the red plaque memorial to the victims of the Markale Market was put up? I don't remember seeing it in 2002 when I was there, and am wondering if I just missed it somehow or if it went in later --

Sarajevo How long to spend in Sarajevo and Mostar?
Posted: Sat November 1, 2008 08:51 PM UTC
Hi,
I will be visiting Sarajevo soon and i was wondering if 1 and half days would be enough to see most of the attractions in sarajevo? Because im also planning for Mostar after that. I only have 3 days only for both Sarajevo and Mostar.
Anyone has any suggestions how long i should stay in each place?

And how do i get from Mostar to Split, is there a night train or a night bus? and does it normally delay? I have a flight to catch in Split ariport at 10.30.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Sarajevo Airport to city centre by public transport
Posted: Sat August 30, 2008 11:19 PM UTC
Hello everybody,

For me it seems to be difficult to find any information about public transportation from Sarajevo Airport to the city centre.

Are there any bus connections? On one page I found the recommendation to walk about 800 m to Brace Mulica and hop on the bus #103 which goes to the city centre. Is this info still up to date or are there any other options?

Also: Is it correct that I can buy bus tickets only from teh driver and not in a kiosk?

How much is a fair price for a taxi ride from the airport to the city centre.

Any info is welcome.

Thank you

Sarajevo Getting from Belgrade to Sarajevo
Posted: Fri August 29, 2008 07:44 PM UTC
I'm planning a trip next year that takes me from Belgrade to the Croatian coast.

However, I am having difficulty finding any kind of bus or train service from Belgrade to Sarajevo. What is the least costly way to get to Sarajevo from Belgrade? If by road or train, how long of a ride is it? My travel confidence isn't to where I feel comfortable renting a car and trying to get myself there. Do I have to fly?

Sarajevo looking for translator
Posted: Tue July 22, 2008 05:57 AM UTC
Hi, I am a graduate student from canada. I will be travelling to Sarajevo from end July to end August to conduct some research on ethnic diversity and youth schooling outcomes. I will need a translator on an ad hoc basis (probably 1-2 weeks in total) to help out with translating some documents/data, and also when I meet staff from the statistical institutes. I will also travel to Mostar, Banja Luka, and possibly Tuzla.

I'm hoping to engage an university student who might be interested, and who speaks and read English/Serbo-Croatian. payment is negotiable. does anyone know anyone who might be interested/available? please let me know, thanks!!!

Posted: Tue July 8, 2008 12:33 PM UTC
Hi, I am a visual artist from the Netherlands and will be traveling to Belgrado, Serbia and Sarajevo, Bosnia end of July for a week to film for an art project. I am planning to make portraits of people close to their home and ask them what HOME means to them. The film will contain 100 portraits of people from all over the world. The film will be shown at a famous museum of contemporary arts in the Netherlands. Who would like to accompany me and my cameraman during those days. I am looking for someone who speaks both Serbian / English or Bosnian/Croation and English And preferably who knows some interesting people to film.
We like to film all different kinds of people, rich, poor, ugly, beautiful, plain, eccentric you name it, people who have an interesting story to tell about their home at different locations.
Who can help me? Regards Frederik

Sarajevo Transportation and Lodging

Hi. I plan to travel to Sarajevo in June 2008. I would appreciate information (travel time and frequency) and approximate cost on train connection from Milan to Sarajevo (via Mostar?). Should I expect Sarajevo and Mostar to have many tourists in June? Could somebody recommend good hotels (do not need fancy but a clean one in each city, located in a nice area). Do I need to make train and hotel reservations in advance? Thanks for any help. Pablo

Sarajevo renting a car
Posted: Sat April 19, 2008 09:23 PM UTC
Hi,

I was planning on renting a car in Zagreb and driving around Croatia and then crossing the border and driving the car to Sarajevo. I would leave the car in Sarajevo and fly to London from there.

Is this ok or a bad approach? I am allowed to rent a car in Croatia and leave it in Sarajevo at a car rental place?

Thanks for any tips!

Sarajevo Question about a future visit
Posted: Sat April 19, 2008 10:25 AM UTC
I spent a month there about 2 yrs ago studying war and peace for college. Well I fell in love with Sarajevo- even though I travelled throughout the country- I even cried when boarding the plane back home to America!!! I did not want to leave and vowed that I would one day return. However, here is my question. I am in an inter-racial relationship which is not an issue here however, I wonder how Bosnians view people of different races and what are their views on inter-racial relationships?

Sarajevo Sarajevo to Mostar by Train
Posted: Wed March 12, 2008 03:09 PM UTC
Hi all,
I'll be in Sarajevo next weekend (easter) and I'd like to do a day trip to Mostar by train.
Firstly, is there any particular day - Friday, Saturday or Sunday which will be best to make the trip (things being closed in Mostar, availablity of seats on train etc)?
Secondly, should I pre-book the train ticket the day before, or will I be okay buying on the day?
Lastly, is there an online timetable, or does anyone know the traintimes for those days so I can start planning.

Thanks Vters'!
