my father was from a village 65 km south of minsk, i want to visit my fathers home village, and also spend a few days visiting my grandfathers home village, i am finding my root's . i would love to hear from anyone who can help.
I will travel to Belarus from EU. I know ´there is a control on state border.
What can i bring to Belarus and what products are not allowed (milk, meat products, something else)?
Does anybody can recomend any good restaurant (preferably local cuisine or maybe something from Polish, Lithuanian cuisine), some good shops with shoes, cloths?
Local food (in the shops) - what to try (bred, cheese,....)?
Can I use my bank card Visa for paying in the shops there? ATMs?
I will take also some Euros there, hope to change them to Belarus rubles.
Something interesting to see in the city and surroundings?

Shisha Bars Posted: Thu August 27, 2009 11:34 AM UTC
hi,
I'm new in town and I prefer smoking good shishas.
Does someone of you know a good shisha bar ?
I smoked one near Namiga, but they dont have Apple shisha.
Could, please, anyone tell me about all possible variants of getting from the Minsk airport. I've found out that Minsk airport is quite far away from the town (about 40 km)and that there's no railway connection or something like that.
Thank you in advance)))

Six of us are coming in Minsk to football match Belarus - Croatia. We'll be staying dor three days. We're coming from Split (the most beautiful town in the world), Croatia. I'd like you to spare us some time and tell me about some good places to go out. Nothing fancy, ordinary bars and clubs with reasonable prices, with young people and beautiful women:))) And yes, Belarus women! I would like to know everything about Belarus women! Advice us, please.

I am thinking of going to the 2010 Euromeet in Krakow.
Whilst in Poland, I am thinking of nipping over to Belarus and going to Krivoshin, (Krzywoszyn) to the village where my Father was born and lived. I would like to see the place my Father felt that he could never return to. Who knows, there may be the odd relative still there.
Tinterweb information of this little town/village is very limited with reports of anything from 500 to 1800 people living there.
O course, there are no VT members living there and nobody as been to visit it either.
I will hire a car and drive there;
So, does anybody have any idea how far Krivoshin is from Krakow or Brest?

I ve found this web site for accomodation in minsk and they seem allright.
i just wonder if someone has used them in the past before, in order to get some feedback etc?
After trying to gather some intelligence from internet I decided to post a question here. I am sure that some of you live in Belarus, and in Minsk in particular and some have already visited Belarus. We are planning a trip to Minsk in June and need some info on living conditions, accommodations, hostels et cetera. How much shall we budget for food?
Do we have to stay in expensive hotels if we are EU citizens ? Is cheaper accommodation available and safe? What are obligations of a person inviting us?
Could somebody help?
What are the natural wonders that can been seen in Belarus or Belarus neighborhood, like: hot sulphur springs, hot ground, maybe volcanoic areas, or any other strange natural phenomena.
I would like to wander about the countryside of Ukraine and Belarus, and during such travels we always seek natural phenomenas.
I plan to visit Belarus, staying in Minsk and Brest, probably several nights in each, during March this year.
While I know that I can apply for a visa at the Belarus Embassy in London, I need a letter of invitation, but I do not know where I am staying yet and want to avoid 'tourist agencies' and terrible inflated prices and fees for accommodation and a letter.
Does anyone have any advice or can help me at all?? Please?

My wife and I will be going to Minsk in March (12,13,14) and are looking for a non-professional, local person, to be our guide for a day or so. We are easy going people and want to get oriented to the city, perhaps ride the metro, go to lunch or dinner (I buy). I would be glad to pay someone a very fair price to be our guide. Of course you would need to speak a little English! Any takers...)
thx

Going to visit 2 girls we hosted from the village if anyone has any info on the area I would be most gratfull. Also if any info on the Goryn Hotel in Stolin. Not sure if we will stay there for a night or not? Thank you. Hilda
Hi! I'd like to meet people from Belarus, does anyone know a Belarussian chatroom easy to use which doesn't need any special registration and where you nomally can find people to talk with?
thanks in advance
Hello,
I'm going to Minsk from 28Dec to 8 Jan. There I already have two friends, but I'd like to meet anyone else who wants to join for a beer (or coffe :-)
So write me!
My family plan to visit relatives in Vitebsk summer 2009 and i'm looking for the cheapest route. We've used Belavia in the past and although convenient, we'd like to do it on the cheap. Riga looks the closest, but i don't see any trains from Riga to Vitebsk? It's possible we can get picked up if we can get a bus over the border, i think it's roughly 300 miles. Any suggestions with Buses or trains, part or full journey would be great. I was looking at Poland -> Minsk -> Vitebsk, but it looks like a long journey.
My wife and I have been supporting a Belarussian family for over 12 years now and she has stayed with us in England 6 times now but always arranged through one of the Chernobyl Charities.
As she is now 22 years old, she will be staying with my family and I for 10 days over the Christmas period.
After a lot of hassle we have booked a return flight and are now putting together the paperwork required for her to get a tourist visa for a private visit to Britain.
Part of this requires copies of my family bank statements, payslips, mortgage agreement, copies of letters received from her, copies of phone bills proving we talk on the phone etc...very complicated.
The final piece of paperwork required is an invitation from me. Obviously this could be written many different ways and we have no reason to put anything other than the truth.
However, I would be grateful if anyone could advise the sort of layout the visa dept in Belarus expect and the sort of info it needs to contain.
I have been looking for examples of layouts on the web without any joy so any advice or guidance with the type of layout and contents would be very much appreciated.

Hi,
I am planning a trip through Poland, Belarus and Russia and just have a few questions. I already have a visa for Russia so I was planning on getting the 48 hour transit visa for Belarus. With the visa for Belarus is it a total of 48 hours given from the time of entry or is it just one day to enter and one day to leave. for example if I arrived at 11pm on the 3rd of November would I have until 11pm on the 5th November or would I simply have the 3rd and 4th as days permitted.
I am getting the overnight train from Minsk to Moscow departing on the 4th November and it crosses the border from Belarus to Russia at 00:31 on the 5th. Does this mean that because I will be in Belarus territory on the 5th I will only be able to get the visa for the 4th and the 5th?
I want to get the Warsaw to Minsk Train which departs at 20:44 and arrives in Minsk at 8:01 the following morning. Does anyone know what time it will cross the border from Poland to Belarus? I am hoping it is after midnight, that way I can get on the train on the 3rd, arrive in Belarus on the 4th and I will be covered by the transit visa for the 4th and the 5th.
Does anyone know of a website where I can purchase a ticket for the train between Warsaw and Belarus, so far I have come across a number of sites which have the time table but not a booking facility.
Finally, if I require a tourist visa for my stay, does anyone know of any websites that will produce a tourist voucher for me?
Thanks.
