Belarus Visiting Belarus
Posted: Sun April 20, 2008 01:54 PM UTC
Hi

I'm visiting Belarus for a few days and wanted to speak/meet with local people and learn more about life there.

I live in Dublin, Ireland and have lived & worked in many countries, Japan, Australia, Spain.

Anyway apart from Minsk are there other cities you would recommend I see? I thought Bresh forest looks interesting.

Also i'm hoping to get a quick tourist visa at Vilnius, does anyone know how fast this can be? Also if I stay 2 days in Minsk and then 2 days in another city, where do I register? I could just stay 3 days in total but I don't know if I still must register?

Many thanks and if I can give any advise to anyone

Ed

Thanks

Belarus visa for Belarus for EU citizens? No letter by voucher?
Posted: Wed March 12, 2008 06:19 PM UTC
Hi, I've read in lot of places that as a EU citizen I don't need a letter of invitation in order to obtain visa for Belarus, but then I read in other webpages and they say I need a voucher, so at the end it sounds like the same because I didn't have any relative in Belarus anyway.
Did anyone enter by Belarus by land lately? Does anyone know what actually is needed for that visa?

Belarus Popelevo near Brest
Posted: Sat February 23, 2008 02:05 PM UTC
I'm looking for a village Popelevo, where there was a manor house, but I've found 2 villages one is called Popelevo and the other one Popelevo Bolshoi (the big one, I think).Have these 2 places been inhabitated for a long time?
It's part of a study on the old manor houses in West Belarus so any information on the village or the manor house would be appreciated.
Thanks a lot.

My name is Johan and I live in Denmark. We are 4 guys which have booked a trip to Minsk, for a long weekend.

However we seem to have trouble getting an invitation for the visa.

We do not want to stay in a hotel, but prefer to rent an apartment.
Do you have any advice?

Thanks

Hrodna Travel to Hrodna
Posted: Mon February 18, 2008 09:44 PM UTC
Thanks for the tip about not driving. I will be coming from Warsaw in the fall for a day. Am I better off to take the train and deal with the gauge change at the border, or take a bus? Also, my great-grandfather emigrated to the United States from Hrodna in the late 19th century. Family legend has it that he worked on a czarist estate. Is there an old palace/castle in the area? Thank you so much.

Belarus Travel to and in Belarus
Posted: Sun February 17, 2008 02:33 PM UTC
I am planning a trip to Belarus and was looking for pointers. Pplan is to train in to Minsk from Lithuania. Is this a viable option?
Are the trains reliable? From Minsk plan to go to Gomel again by train. Is this ok?
To obtain a Belarus visa I believe I need to have accomodation booked and an invite letter. Can I book for one night and get the visa or do I need the accomodation for all of the trip before the visa will be granted?

Thanks

Brest Visit to Brest via WAW
Posted: Tue February 12, 2008 01:37 PM UTC
My grandfather came to the US via Brest around circa 1915. He finally settled
in Cleveland, Ohio. The ethnic background of our name is Ukrainian. My wife,
daughter (who is fluent in Russian), and I are planning a trip to Brest to check
the archives there regarding emigrants from that area. I need advise on how
to get there from WAW, also I need a sponsor or hotel to "invite" us there, and
any further info that may help us with the search. We do have copies of documents from that time period. Please advise as we are planning our trip for May, 2008. Thank you

Minsk Real Minsk
Posted: Tue February 12, 2008 08:44 AM UTC
Hiya, I wonder if somebody can help, I'm planning a trip to Minsk in the near future, although I’ve been repeatedly warned about the dangers with going to such a place because of my ethnic origin. I admit most, well all my information comes from people who have never been there, so it’s really all hearsay, I much welcome a real lowdown on the city.
Thanks in advance

Belarus How can I get from Vilnius to Hrodna spend a night in Hrodna and then return to Vilnius?
Posted: Tue February 5, 2008 01:13 PM UTC
I shall be spening 2 or 3 nights in Vilnius and do not have much time left before I have to return hom. I am told that the only practical way to get from Vilnius is to stay the night at Druskininkai and go to Grodno the next day. If I do this can I come back to Vilnius the same day without staying the night in Belarus? Or do I have to stay 2 nights in Druskininkai? Paul

Belarus Raill communication
Posted: Fri January 4, 2008 09:25 PM UTC
Dears,

I will be coming by train from Poland.

I want to go to Miory (close to Polotsk). What will be the best way? From Vilnius or from Minsk?

Are still trains to Varapayeva or to Hlybokaye? In my research it seems that there are no trains there, but I see rail road in the map throughthese towns.

Another question? Is it easy to get to Belarus from Daugavpits in Latvia? How?

Belarus visa situation in Belarus?
Posted: Thu December 6, 2007 12:41 PM UTC
Hi, I'd like to know how's the visa situation for EU members now in Belarus. Usually in many sites they say you need letter of invitation or a hotel or agency voucher, but I know people who just requested the visa in embassy.
Can anyone give me some information of his/her own experience going to the country??

Thanks

Baranavichy changing trains in Baranavichy
Posted: Thu August 16, 2007 06:49 PM UTC
I notice that there are two train stations in Baranavichy: Centralniy and Polesskie.
Is it possible to come from Brest to Centralniy station at 06.30,then go to Polesskie station and catch the train for Vilnius at 07.05?
Are there taxis or buses going between the stations?
Looking forward to a speedy answer.
