Hi forum members,
I am planning to visit Ethiopia for 10 days on/around mid Jun 2012, solo. I am in-contact with different travel companies. I am interested to go with the offer from Blue sky Ethiopia tour and travel (http://www.blueskyethiopia.com).
My question, did any body have an experience with this travel company found in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia?
Many thanks

I will need some assistance about the road conditions and rest areas travelling frist from Addis to Awassa.
The next day we will be heading Arba Minch from Awassa and the same day back to Addis. Would I survive?:) What abou the road conditions and standards of the hotels to sleep in Awassa.
What about to eat any known franchises in one of those cities?
Would be a hassle to ask but any medications or injections to have before heading to Ethiopia(apoligise to ask this)
In major cities such as Arba and Awassa, would the mobiles work?
As you can guess this is a business trip:)
Thanks all...

Hello, I am going to Ethiopia February 8th till 27th. I am going for a friend's wedding at the start of the trip, then free to travel around for a couple of weeks. I have not yet booked internal travel but will be up near the Eritrean border and then work my way back down to the Bale mountains where I would like to do some horse trekking. Anyone keen to share some travel, let me know! I'll be travelling on my own. Thanks.

Hi there!
I’m planning a solo, month-long trip to Ethiopia, trying to see as much as possible! No concrete plans, yet…
It has to depend on costs…
I read in various postings, very contradicting prices for similar (?) tours.
Trying to make it in a rather budget cost (maybe 20-30 euro/day without package, and if doable, 10 e more for tour packages?).
I wonder first, which places of the country worths to visit by public transport (and do some day-trips around) so to manage some good sightseeing without package tours there...
besides that, it seems that it is necessary to book tours (eg for Omo) but the costs vary big money.
Maybe for some agencies, it is because of higher level of service, but for others, could they also be inflated prices for 'dummy tourists'?
It would be great if it was enough to spend a couple of days in Addis Ababa and manage to book good value tours. Do you think this is the case?
Or maybe needs more time for in depth research...?
Any recommendations, experiences, costs, would help a lot guys!
Many thanks!
Nikolas

2 questions...
- I've emailed the Jupiter International Cazanchise looking for a booking, but no reply after 3 weeks; any thoughts or suggestions? Do I have to phone?
- Any suggestions for a reliable company to go to for excursions outside the city and tours of the city itself?

We are going to Ethiopia in December for a month. We were wondering what the best way of taking cash was. We were thinking of taking most in hard cash (probably dollars) and then keeping some in in a debit account. This is to save going to bank a lotand saving money on making multiple withdrawals. Does anyone any advice or tips on this. Thanks

Hello All
I am planning to go to the Samien National Park. I am not intending to hire a cook. From the gear part, i have camping gas grill ( a small one which can be put inside a pocket) but i would have to buy compressed gas.
The question is as follows. Is there somewhere in Gondar a camping shop where i would be able to buy it. It's not the only equipment i would like to purchase.
Would be very grateful for any help.
Thank you all in advance.
Max.

I'll have 4 days in Ethiopia in January - arriving & departing by air via Addis.
I'm thinking 1.5 days is enough for Addis, and I'm pondering an internal flight to Lalibela. That would give me 1.5 days there.
Is that enough time in Lalibela?
Flight will cost £225/€250 return. Is it "good value" to spend that much money to visit Lalibela?
Am I setting aside enough time for Addis? I think all 4 days would be too much...
I certainly want to see more of the country than just the capital, but I know I could get day excursions from Addis.

Is 5 days a good length of stay to see the Lalibela churches? I understand that international flights lands at Addis Ababa, so between these two places how many days should I spent in each city. Can someone recommend a website to book domestic flights between these two places? Are there other interesting historical/cultural sites around the area?

Hi everyone, I'm trying to figure out a trip to Kampala from Addis Ababa and I'd like to get some advice. I'm flying into Addis Ababa on June 1 and out on September 1 but I want to be in Kampala from July 1 - August 14 if possible. I don't want to fly and I'd like to get out into the countryside as opposed to just sticking on main roads.
I was thinking of going down through the Omo Valley, and to the end of the Omo River, then along lake Turkana through Kenya, all the way down to Kampala (hiking in the places where there's no buses). On the way back, I would be in more of a rush so I'm thinking of bussing it from Kampala, through Kenya to Moyale and then on up to Addis Ababa from there. Do you have any advice about that plan? I would consider flying on the way back if it was less than £50 but any flights I've looked at have been over £200.
Do you know anything about getting local guides? I don't want to go through a company if possible - I'd prefer to go with individuals who know the land from being on it (if these people exist!) and I'd be happy to do the safer parts without a guide (my biggest fear is attracting attention from people who'll want to steal my money/stuff and will be willing to hurt me to get it - especially as I'll be camping most of the time). From previous experiences in other countries, guides are the best way to prevent that sort of stuff from happening - but maybe I'm wrong?
Also, how useful is it to have American Dollars and British Pounds? I'm from the UK so I could bring a fair amount in pounds if I thought it would be more useful or even as useful as Birr.
There's a pile of other things that I want to ask about but lets start here and see where it takes us.
Thanks in advance,
Darragh

Am in Khartoum at the moment and will be breaking for the border soonest, I am down to my last few 100 in USD and am planing to use my Visa debit card once in Ethiopia.(HSBC U.K.) As most research I have done seems to indicate that this should not be much of an issue, used it in Kenya and Uganda with no problem I am worried about ATM's working. My first stop after crossing the border will be Gonder, will also be going to the usual places like Bahir Dar, Aksum, Harir and Lailabela and will finish off in Addis. For those of you who live and / or go to Ethiopia often, will ATM's be a big pain in the ass? I really don't want to be the guy hiking all over town with a back pack on my back while being followed by a pack of hustlers and street kids while I look for an ATM that works.
Thanks in advance.
P.S. Any good little out of the way towns I should stop at?

Hello,
I m gonna visit Ethiopia with 2 friends for one month and wanted to know if it was possible to go hiking in the southern part (Omo valley) and meet tribes without any agencies?
Has "visiting tribes" become touristic in these areas as many agencies propose trips there? Are those tribes really used to see tourist very often like in some touristic places in Africa or not? Do you know any place from which we could do a one week hike going from one tribe to another, is it possible to do such a trip with tent and food?
Thanks a lot for your advice!
Ben
