Luxor Arabic
Posted: Sat June 28, 2008 07:58 AM UTC
Can anyone recommend which language school in Luxor to study Arabic. I know of Ahlan College, Almasa School and Al Sanabil language centre but I don't know if they are any good or which of the three is the better one.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Luxor Nile Cruise - Luxor to Aswan
Posted: Thu June 5, 2008 07:52 PM UTC
There have been many questions on this before as people were wondering which boat to choose etc. My husband and I are going to Egypt for 10 days in Dec and we don't have a big budget. Over $100 a night per person is a bit much for us and I was hoping to get something cheaper. Does anyone know of any cruises (3 nights)that are not luxury but decent still??

thanks soo much!

Luxor Suggestions for Luxor trip??
Posted: Mon April 21, 2008 01:07 PM UTC
Hi,

I am visiting Luxor in October for 2 weeks - would value input on what see aside from the more obvious Valley Of Kings, Temple of Luxor & Karnak. Also would like to visit Cairo - what is the best way to go about this and how much time would be necessary to spend there?

Any info appreciated!

Thanks, janey

Luxor Is 1 & 1/2 days as part of a Nile Cruise sufficient to see Luxor?
Posted: Fri March 21, 2008 06:01 AM UTC
Hi
I'm planning a 12 night trip to Egypt in Nov. Cairo 4 nights, Nile Cruise Aswan - Luxor 4 nights, Sharm 3 nights + ONE OTHER TO BE DECIDED?

My question is whether I should add another night to Cairo (total 5) or spend one night instead in Luxor (Sontesa St George Hotel) before the nile cruise.

My tour company says the 1 & 1/2 days in Luxor as part of the cruise will be sufficient to see what I need, whereas the Lonely Planet says many find they need to spend an extra day or two in Luxor.

I'd appreciate your opinion on whether an extra night in Cairo or Luxor would be best?

Many thanks :-)

Luxor West Bank Hotel
Posted: Tue March 18, 2008 05:04 PM UTC
Have recently returned from a Nile Cruise. Our intention is to re-visit Luxor sometime and stay on the West Bank. Can anyone suggest some reasonable places to stay?

Need to return as we were really rushed along when we took the 'tour package' on offer on the Nile boat.

Luxor buying essential oils in Luxor
Posted: Thu February 28, 2008 07:50 PM UTC
I'm planning to go to Luxor in May and I have two questions:

1. Egypt produces a lot of essential plant oils, but I never saw them in shops in Cairo or other cities. Is it possible to get essential oils (frankincense, myrrh e.o.) in some shop(s) in Luxor?

2. Does somebody know a reputable perfume shop(s) in Luxor with good quality perfume essences/oils (shops not with usual copies of designer fragrances)? What are approx. prices?

Thank you very much and good luck to everyone!

Luxor Question about hotel check-in time
Posted: Sun January 20, 2008 10:51 PM UTC
We are arriving Luxor by sleeping train on the early morning of May 19th and leaving for Cairo via sleeping train on the evening of May 21st. We are travelling independently in a group of four and we are thinking of booking two rooms at Sonesta St. George in advance.

As far as I know, the check-in time for most of the hotels is around 11am-1pm so where should we leave our luggages before going off to explore the sites that morning? Do you think that we should book the room for the night before so that the room is already reserved by the time we get there around six in the morning the next day?

Same problem occurs on the day we're departing Luxor. The check-out time is around 3 PM and the sleeping train to Cairo leaves Luxor around 11 o'clock at night. So, should we book the room for another night? We are only going to be in Luxor for three days but it seems like we're gonna have to book the rooms for five nights.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. Anyone who has done this before, please help me. Any word or advice is immensely appreciated.

Luxor Tour in Luxor
Posted: Thu December 20, 2007 07:34 AM UTC
Hi, we will be travelling to Luxor from Cairo in January and are staying only a few days. I wonder if anyone might give us tips on which sights which should'nt be missed, how much do the entrance fees cost, opening hours, and the best way to travel to these places? Is it better to engage a travel agency who can arrange these trips? I got an offer of 195US$ per person for 2 days which I thought is expensive. Appreciate any advice.

Luxor Can anybody help me. Trip to luxor
Posted: Tue December 11, 2007 09:44 PM UTC
Is there anybody out there, who can help me? Me and my wife and a couple of friends are visiting luxor this coming January 2008. We have been told that there are some fixed price tourist shops where all the prices are marked and you do not have to haggle. And secondly we would like to do a hot air balloon ride is this going to be expensive. And lastly can you recommend some good places to eat out, not to expensive but not burger and chips, if you know what i mean. Many thanks Andy

Luxor Cheap transportation from Port Safaga/in Luxor?
Posted: Mon December 3, 2007 01:13 AM UTC
Hello all,

I will soon be working on a cruise ship that is supposed to dock in Safaga, Egypt. Do you have any ideas on the best way to get to the sights in Luxor without shelling out tons of $$$ for a cab or anything like that? The guides I read mention bus service of some kind, but they didn't really give any idea of how long it would take--any ideas on that as well?
Also I assume that these buses drop you off in Luxor proper, I read about the ferry across the Nile to the West Bank where the Valley of the Kings is (since I'll probably be on a pretty tight schedule, I'll only have time to see one thing)...is the Valley within walking distance of the ferry or would I need to take a taxi? (I'm in my mid-20s and in fairly good shape, so I'm willing to walk pretty far.)

Sorry about all the questions...any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Luxor Here I go again,
Posted: Sun November 25, 2007 03:39 PM UTC
Having been twice before you might think I should have the knowledge I seek, but this time I'm bringing my "11+13 year olds" so I am going to try to pack everything I've seen in two visits into one week so they can see and learn as much as possible. Previously I have been laid back/relaxed or truth be told a bit lazy, choosing to soak up the joy of Luxor itself rather than hitting the ground running every morning.
Or like spending 7 hours at Karnak then wondering where the day has gone.
This year I'm going for a crack of dawn start each morning. So by mid-afternoon we can stop for a relaxed lunch on the Corniche or I can indulge myself in conversation at the poolside while the kids play after a very busy morning. Aaaahh bliss.
So to the question.
Do all the sites have similar opening times and if so what time is that?

Here is an excellent tip I found from Miriam who is married and if she's a lucky girl might be living in Luxor by now. God ettermiddag Miriam.

Here is a tip for a well spent relaxing day: Bring swimwear, go felucca from right below Luxor temple. say you want to go to Crocodile Island. Have lunch, sunbathe and use the swimming pool there before you sail back at sunset.
OH YES!
If anyone living in Luxor knows the Felucca Man “Captain Tayib” tell him to look out for me I will need him for a couple of days while I'm there. 5th December for a week.

Peace and blessings...Jim

Hi i have booked a 1 week cruise on the Nile on the Etoili Dunil with excursions
plus 1 week AI at the Primasol Beach Albatros Hotel

Main questions really are;

Anyone stayed at this hotel/or stayed on board this ship and have an opinion on either?
