I am trying to organise an independant visit to Egypt for early Sept but am getting totally frustrated with the logistics of it all. Bascially we are flying into Cairo and hope to spend a full day sight seeing. From there I would like to do a 4 night Nile cruise and then spend the remainder of a 14 days holiday in Sharm.
My problem is no matter what way I research this all I seem to be doing is spending my time going to or from Cairo airport.
Has anyone tried to fit all 3 areas into a two week break and if so how. Personally I'd prefare not to go with an organised travel agent as I like to be able to move around as I wish.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know anything about the Russian Friendship monument at Aswan High Dam? e.g. when it was built? Who designed it? what it says inside? I have tried to find out without success Thank you

I am touring Egypt in late November. I want to travel from hurghada to Aswan overnight by bus. I read in this forum and elsewhere that I cannot book buses in advance and the buses usually run full. Is this true? Are there private airconditioned buses which I can book in advance? I do not want to book a package tour of aswan. I just want to book an A/C bus from hurghada to aswan. Is it possible to do from cairo a day or two in advance. What would be the cost?

I wrote a tour company to see if I could get a felucca boat from Aswan to Luxor for 20Jun. He said there are no felucca boats running during the summer and stated I needed to get a river boat cruise (which he so happens to have). Didn't sound right to me and think it is bogus but wanted to know if anyone could verify this. Are there no boats running for the month of Jun? I don’t want to get on a huge river boat cruise and would prefer to keep it smaller and more personal. Thanks for your help.

Hello everyone, I have booked 3N/4D on Presidential Nile cruise Luxor to Aswan. Can anyone share their experience. Although my travel is confirmed it would give me comfort to know that they are okay. Thanks in advance.

Are taxies easily available early morning from cruise dock at Aswan to the airport OR is it necessary to book one in advance. Can we keep our luggage at Aswan or Abu Simble airport. Our flight leaves at 9:00 AM and returns at 1:00 PM. Shall be grateful for any info. Thanks in advance.

My partner and I are going to Egypt in 10 days time, going to Cairo first, then on to Aswan by train. From Aswan we'd like to get a felucca down to Luxor, but there are only the two of us. Does anyone know how easy it is to find other backpackers to share a felucca with? I've read that people advertise - where's the best place to look? We could probably just about afford to hire one just for ourselves, but it would be a bit more fun to meet other travellers. If anyone else is planning the same sort of thing, we'll be looking at leaving Aswan on the 16th or 17th of March!

Hello all! I'm travelling to Egypt in a couple of months & would be really grateful for any advice regarding excursions on the Nile. About 10 years ago I took a felucca from Aswan to Luxor which was brilliant. However, being a decade older, I'd like to travel in more comfort. I've been scouring the internet for a 3 night / 4 day trip from Aswan but all I can find are cruise liners, which don't particularly appeal to me. Does anyone know if it's possible to catch a Dahabiyya which does a short journey, or are they all 7 night trips? If the only other option is to take a cruiser, can anyone recommend a mid price range, smaller boat which might be suitable. Better yet, does anyone know of any steam boats, which don't require taking out a bank loan, doing the same 3 night trip?

Can someone please tell me how long does it usually take to go from the cruise dock to the airport? How much should cost?

Also, we will take a round trip flight from Aswan - Abu Simebel. Any suggestion what we can do with our luggages?

I'll be in Egypt the last week of jenuary and the first of february. I'd like to know if someone of you members have made my same trip and if it used the "Swan tour".
I'll arrive at Luxor from Rome and there i'll be on "Royal Princess" for the cruise on the nile..someone has been on this boat?
Then i'll stay 3 days at Cairo at the "Intercontinental hotel", how is this hotel?
From there i'll move to Sharm el Sheik to the "Laguna Vista Swan club"..i'd like to know some tips about this too...if someone have been there what are the good things and the bad things.
Is also the temperature good for snorkeling in Sharm the first week of February?

I am looking for a decent hotel in Aswan that has WiFi internet. I thought I had found the perfect one, Keylany, but unfortunately, they don't have any double rooms available in early February. Any other recommendations?

Alternatively, are there any internet cafes that have WiFi? I just need something good enough for making calls on Skype.

We'd like to visit the temple after the cruise ends on Friday but I cannot find any flights at all from/to Aswan. Egypt air website states no flights (?) available in late Jan. What other options do I have???

hi dear vt members, was in cairo and luxor a couple years ago and want to visit egypt again but focusing on the nile valley only aswan to abu, aswan to edfu/and fly back to cairo from luxor

most of the boat itin seem to include luxor tours...

should I just show up in aswan and try to find a boat that can take me to edfu or luxor without making me pay for luxor again?

I am planning a trip to Egypt for the Sun Festival in February. I am planning on leaving from Aswan to Abu Simbel in the convoy on the day of the festival (February 22nd). I assume that the convoys would be extra large for the festival, but what time would they leave for the festival? What would the cost be to get transportation for the convoy?

Me and my wife would be there. Any idea what is the best way to celebrate it in Aswan? What does the young local crowd do?
Going to big gala parties in big hotels is not our idea of a good new year celebration.

How long does it take to travel by motorcoach from Luxor to Aswan with stops
in Edfu Nd Kom Ombo?

According to my draft travel plan, on Dec. 30th I m going to Abu Simbel. I will arrive to Aswan early in the morning that day. What options do I have if I want to do Aswan to Abu simbel and back to Aswan by road? I know there is a convoy at 11am. Is it possible to go and return by public bus? Can I arrange it at the spot to buy a tour by private bus, taxi? Are the local agencies reliable? How much it will cost? How long it will take? If I want to prebook a tour, any suggestions for tour operators? Thank you!

We are planning a trip to Egypt for either November 07or January 08.
We are hoping for a few days in Cairo with a guide and a few days in Luxor with a guide. We also plan to take a short cruise to some of the other archaeological and historic sites along the Nile. I have looked on-line for cruises and just can't seam to find a cruise without it being associated with a tour group. Can anyone recommend and provide a contact for booking directly with a Nile cruise boat. I would like to find a boat that is 50 to 60 cabins in size, has good guides, is clean and has good safe food and water. I would greatly appreciate hearing your experience with such a boat.

I'm arriving in Sharm El Sheikh for two weeks in September. I went to Cairo and Luxor to see the sites last year and this year i would like to go to Aswan to see the Great Temple of Ramses. Please could you advise me on the cheapest and best posible way to do this?

I could get a flight from Sharm to Aswan...what should i do from there about getting to see the Temple?
